Fans complain about Miranda's outfit: Bioware eventually releases an outfit that solves that problem

Fans complain about Ashley. Bioware eventually caves and gives her respectable armor

Fans complain about Liara statue. Bioware makes it slightly less horrible

Bioware punishes fans with over sexualized robot straight from someone's fanfiction

This.

And keyword is "slightly" less horrible. The Liara statue is still appalling. Just slightly less.

It doesn't matter the they went with a female body - it matters that they HAD to have it sexualised. They NEEDED to have it sexualised.

So? What's so wrong about that?

It's certainly better than those outfits Samara and Miranda had.

Its wrong because its only NEEDED for games aimed at gamers who have just discovered they get funny feelings hen they look at boobs.

There isn't a need for it in the ME universe. What started out as a series that had the traditional male warrior as a woman, and the traditonal female mage as a man and pushed a strong powerful female avatar has suddenly looked like they've done a backflip.

ME was a series that started off without feeling the need to reduce female characters to excessive objectification. Now - for no reason what so ever, and without any explanation - they suddenly NEED to have them sexed up?

Generally speaking I thought we were heading away from this kind of backwards mentality.

so wait you find edi to be over sexualized and others just arent?

look bro im a guy myself but if you dont like the look i understand but if your going to keep hyping the omg there oversexualizing thing i hope you understand that a few other charaters can be said for the same thing.

so dont make it sound like edi is the only one

Wait? What?

Never said EDI was the only one. In fact - since ME2 came out I've argued pretty strongly about their need to change tact when it came to female characters. Hell, they created special camera moments just for Miranda's arse.

In this instance though we're tlaking about BioWare stating clearly that they needed to make EDI sexy.

That was the whole point of their design philosophy on where they were going and why they decided on a robot body. It wasn't enough to have an AI, built into a ship, that had a female voice. It needed to become sexy.

That whole thought process right there, is just plain silly.

Oh, and I forgot:

This.

Then they gave her long hair, pale skin, and generally completely changed her appearance to appeal to... well, to the same demographic as curvaceous!EDI is supposed to appeal to.

It seems that for every step forward, BioWare takes two steps back. I'd be embarrassed to show those cleverly written, thought-provoking, visually stunning games to my parents and little brother because the artists apparently think that every character referred to by a female pronoun (even a genderless robot) absolutely must have the body of a porn star to appeal to drooling teenage boys.

Screw this. I'm done with this franchise.

*legion looks at EDI*

legion: we would wish to pose a question.

EDI: yes legion?

legion: why the need for those frontal portrusions, they are not an efficient design.

EDI: this incites interesting reactions from my colleagues, particulary jeff.

legion: ...*head flashes and head plates tilt a bit*

I like her design and the fact that she was inspired by Maria from Metropolis :D

Sir Metropolis is something that many complainers would fail to understand. because that was first thing I thought about when I heard EDI was getting a body.

Which  brings me back to the  most down low romance on the Normandy... Legion and EDI.

And  Little  amusing Irony... see for a female character to be strong she  not must have  a  female body at all and no femine features at all ... because strong women are never femine...

Yeah the whole excuse for why we have a robotic female-figured EDI is lame as hell (infiltration unit...uh huh.  and EDI needed to get in that body why now?  oh right to satisfy the fan-fic fanatics).  However, I don't believe the actual design to be hypersexualized.  But like you said, the whole thought process is the real problem here.  At least to me, someone who has seen the franchise get sillier and sillier since ME1 in these appeal-to-everyone and especially-teenage-boys areas.  Tougher and tougher to suspend disbelief; good sci-fi should keep that to a minimum.

I guess BioWare finally thought that it was time they took their own trilogy in their own hands and not let the fans have a stranglehold on them all the time.

One: learn to spell "feminine".
Two: there's a difference between "feminine" and "designed to appeal to horny fanfiction writers".
Three: EDI isn't even female. It's an AI.

I want her alt outfit to be the Normandy.

The entire Normandy.

Then I'd have her in my squad for every mission.

It's not female but it was designed with a female voice. It makes sense for them to put it into a female body. EDI may even prefer a female body to a male body, who knows.

It has nothing to do with them being "feminine". It is because it is completely unnecessary.

EDI was designed to run the ship. That's the program's purpose.

Apart from appeasing the Joker/EDI shippers, there is no reason whatsoever to put it in a body that looks like it's designed for a sexbot. Because that denies the AI its primary purpose, namely, running the bloody ship.

according to the other thread she doesn't share any thing very intimate with anyone other than a simple action. Idk how to make spoilers highlight so I'll assume people have the guessing power.

You are right. I am curious as to why she would want to be put into a body and not do what she is programmed to do.
