EDI was designed to run the ship. That's the program's purpose.

Apart from appeasing the Joker/EDI shippers, there is no reason whatsoever to put it in a body that looks like it's designed for a sexbot. Because that denies the AI its primary purpose, namely, running the bloody ship.

No, she CAN run the entire ship herself, but she doesn't. Why do you think we have a crew? And a pilot?

And  Little  amusing Irony... see for a female character to be strong she  not must have  a  female body at all and no femine features at all ... because strong women are never femine...

One: learn to spell "feminine".
Two: there's a difference between "feminine" and "designed to appeal to horny fanfiction writers".
Three: EDI isn't even female. It's an AI.

1.  Learn that I don't give a single  frak

2.  thats completely subjective and you have no proof(as usual).

3.   And so what? So  ow your crying over something being sexualized that can't even be sexaulized because by defination   it  has no gender.  It is an AI after all  neither a  she or he.

but the whining over sexualization continues....

It's not female but it was designed with a female voice. It makes sense for them to put it into a female body. EDI may even prefer a female body to a male body, who knows.

an ai as opposed to a vi, is capable of independent thinking and is capable of learning making an ai the equivalent of a living being's brain in digital form (that's why they're considered so dangerous).
EDI sees herself as the normandy, and ships are normally seen/designated as female. she could have changed her voice if she wanted to due to her own sophisticated voicing technology.
in her own perspective, EDI is female.

I don't get it why people are complaining about EDI's fembot shell. It was stated in the concept pic that she was meant to be an infiltrator with skin and hair (before she lost them), so as not to raise any suspicions. So it's only logical for her shell to have an appealing frame underneath, it wouldn't be possible if she looked like a LOKI mech or geth or whatever. Of course Bioware could have made her an ugly Terminator underneath the skin, but it would just be disturbingly horrid in my opinion.

And besides that there are two other points:
-distinct female shape of EDI's shell would make it easier to associate with her voice, at least for me
-Joker & EDI romance could be very fun to watch
-If Tricia Helfer's character gets yet another a fembot body, it should at least look good B)

"Completely changed her appearance"? When?

Compare ME1 Ashley to ME3 Ashley.

ME1: relatively dark skin, Latina-style, pragmatic short hair - as expected from a soldier, no makeup, natural eyebrows.

ME3: pale white skin, loose shoulder-long hair (really suitable for running and shooting), thick glossy lipstick, painted eyebrows.

They sexed her up.

They should have made the robot look like Tricia Helfer
I am so happy we have finally gone into pure cheesy science fiction story
It's the good kind of cheese.

But seriously though, you could have a lot of metaphysical discussion about the nature of humanity with a near human AI in a rather human looking robot. Can they feel? and stuff like that. It would be interesting to see a genuine moment between her and Joker. Something serious as opposed to played for laughs. Real Asimov stuff, she's evolved into a real person and all that. Plus near everyone wanted EDI to have a sexy body so stop complaining

Appealing to whom?

Even if it was supposed to be a human disguise (was it?), what's the point of making it overly sexual? A modest shell would attract less attention.

-distinct female shape of EDI's shell would make it easier to associate with her voice, at least for me

You're not the entire playerbase. Besides, it's the military, fighting for Earth's survival, why would they care?

-Joker & EDI romance could be very fun to watch

Characters have no obligation to be sexually appealing to anyone in particular.

Oh wait, I forgot: sex sells, and women don't play video games. *disappears in a poof of logic*

I am so happy you mentioned that book title. The movie Blade Runner is one of my favorites
If Bioware can pull off THAT kind of charecterization in this game then truly hats off.

Some players may have

A. Handed Legion over to Cerebus

or

B. Go him killed on the Sucide Mission.

EDI survives no matter what.

Different types of AI.  Legion's AI is more communal so one would think it would never reach the level of an individual similar to what EDI is.

it can be explored by the interaction between these two beings, legion the collective intelligence of an entire race and EDI the near human ai.

We already did, much to my satisfaction. And there's more to come in ME3...

Legion is a brilliantly written character - one of ME2's biggest saving graces for me, alongside Mordin. Believable, with alien motives, yet we can empathize in it.

This version of EDI? Done to death, every robot girl cliche, everywhere.

Bioware, you are making it very hard for me to take you seriously.

You are not the only one.

I try to avoid spoilers but accidentally saw those images on some other forum (not really ME related) and first things I thought was that this can't be real.

Unfortunately it looks like someone at BioWare felt like this is a great idea. I think they really are looking to expand their customer base more towards teenage comic book crowd, though even then I wonder if it's going to work, the whole thing is just so damn cheesy.

I really was looking forward to ME3 but now I feel it's going to be just another game... I'm not going to cancel my preorder, I want to know how the story ends, though I can't blame anyone who would call me a moron. I just don't really belong into target demographic.

Yes I know about point A and  him breaking out or something like but point B  still stands... Leigon can't have a body if the character was killed off.
