I can safely say that in all my time playing Mass Effect 2 never at any point did I look at EDI and think to myself:
"This computer AI would be perfect if only it had some ******!"
Seriously, I don't recall ever asking for this. And if at any point in the past I did ask for something similar to this I'm going to have to invent a time machine and punch myself in the past. This is just... words don't do justice the level of idiocy for a plot twist like this. EDI was the AI for the Normandy, that was her job and she was good at it, she didn't need to be anything else.
I just really want to know the mindset behind the dev's decision to do this.
I also want to read the mind of Seth Green as he acts out the 'romance' dialogues, no doubt thinking that the movie 'Sex Drive' is now the second most humiliating thing he's ever done as an actor.
And yes, Bioware is sitting firmly in the time out chair for me in regards to this whole 'sexualization' thing. 'EDI's body needed to be sexy' as the first descriptive line is quick to tell me (which is odd because the word I would have used is 'nonexistent') really puts me off because after the Ashley debacle EDI was essentially the only female character left in all of Mass Effect who wasn't 'sexy' in some way or another and for some reason Bioware felt they needed to change that. Just like they felt the need to update the already sexy Ashley Williams into a spandex wearing supermodel (I admit, they have done a few things to fix that up, proper suit of armor, optional helmet and I think the tan in her skin looks like it's returned somewhat) even though again I don't remember ever asking for Ashley to be made 'hotter'. I didn't wait almost two years to see her return only for my Shepard to suddenly say:
"Hey Ash, I forgive you for Horizon and everything and avoided any other romance for two years but unfortunatley your breasts aren't big enough so obviously I have no further interest in you."
This seems to be the wierd new pattern for Bioware, fixing things that aren't broken and redesigning female characters to become 'super sexy' even though there was never a need (or demand) to do so. They realize that there exists a single character with a XX chromosome arrangement who doesn't have the look of a supermodel and they feel they just have to fix it.
I look forward to seeing their reimagining of the Rachni Queen.
Look Bioware have made some great and very strong fully well rounded female characters. I love Ashley, Jack, Tali, Samara and even EDI. I just kind of wish some degree of the diginified way these ladies are written could carry on to the visual design from time to time.
