Derahu,

Do you seriously believe BioWare isn't trying to attract shooter players through the gameplay changes they've made? Honestly?

I've been playing computer and video games since the early 1980s. I play games on the PC and all three consoles. I play games in many genres: RPG, action-adventure, shooter, survival horror, sports, party, simulation, etc.

The ME series is my all-time favorite: I've played ME 12 times and ME2 14; I played two ME2 chars from scratch to see how not importing an ME character would affect the story arc. I'm keenly aware of the gameplay changes over time.

So after you take a deep breath and dry your eyes, take a look at Halo, MW, and Battlefield sales figures compared to the ME series. Take a look at how many quality studios have shut down over the last couple of years. Remember that studios need to keep the doors open and the lights on.

What I find most amusing is your naivete.

Good grief.

Alright let me put out this fire and let me explain.
The reason why I laughed was because you said that Mass Effect should cater more to shooters when they have said multiple times that they are gearing the game to the shooter crowd already.  I get all crazy when someone says something along the lines of "Make mass effect more like COD!" because there is already so many games taking the same route.  Mass effect is also my favourite game because it is so different from the main game market.  I don't want all my favourite video games to degenerate to the same gameplay style just with different characters.

I can see where you coming from as a business point as it is better to cater to the shooter for money.  However, if the company puts money ahead of quality then you'll get what COD is like now...putting out a new game every year with only 2 or 3 new weapons and different maps.

I am part of the minority as you put it but thats what makes Mass Effect great as it pleases everyone and not just one group of people.

When was the last time YOU saw a Krogan Engineer?  (Note:  Mechanics only deal with weaponry and vehicles)

In ME2 there are multiple ones I can think of off the top of my head. There's a guy in the back tent on Tuchanka and the guy outside that tent working on the vehicle right outside. Both apparently have some sort of engineering abilities.

So b/c someone can fix a vehcile automatically makes him a engineer?

Idiocy at its finest.

No Krogan I have seen has demonstrated engineering skills, but they must have them in order to have applied even the limited techonology they possess, sure that mechanic on tuchanka is no engineer but it took an engineer to build the vehicle he's working on, unless ALL their technology are gifts from the salarians which I doubt because they were at least bright enough to discover fission. Not to mention Warlord Okeer obviously has some serious skills in biological and genetic engineering not dissimilar from Mordin. :P

The Soldier class is the excuse for the husk's to run around and shoot things, but you'll never get the whole game, never! Bioware has made a name and fanbase for themselves off their unique rpg formula and I doubt they need to sell their souls to the witless gameplayer's market to stay in business. Though I agree that the soldier class is their answer to said market.

What's the point of the soldier anymore? Every class can use every weapon. Wasn't that supposed to be the soldier's strength (or, gameplay perk, if you will)?

Actually they are the only class that can carry every weapon at once while the other classes can only carry 2 to give optimum cooldown time for their powers.

On top of that Soldiers can use Adrenaline Rush, have a wide variety of ammos a their disposal, have more health than other classes and I beleive have a faster storm speed.

Is that health thing true? Are we including shields? I assume Sentinel and Vanguard would be better.

Health, not Shields. Soldier's aren't so much the 'tanks' as the universal soldier. Sentinel is more of a straight up tank with the Power Armor making there shields twice as hard to deal with. Vanguard's also tank-like but hes more of a berserker/barbarian style. There mass shields require a constant skill use that constantly puts them in danger.

If Adrenaline Rush is anything like ME2, though, there will be a damage resist rank in it allowing for, if you spec that way, sentinel-like tank abilities for a short time. While in slowmo allowing you to unload a lot of damage in the open while taking less your self.

All of it can fill that role, really, just different methods to it. For MP purposes I'd imagine Krogen Soldier and Sentinel make really good tanks. I personally prefer to go at it as a Krogen Sentinel for one of my builds.

Also, in MP, everyone only gets 2 weapons. And in the main game - Soldiers just have a higher weight allowance. Yeah it allows them to carry more but if you pack on 'all the best stuff' your going to go over your limit. Widow + Claymore + Revanant + SMG/Pistol.... yeah you aint gonna have good cooldowns with that.

Not that it matters as much mind you - ammo powers and all that. Just means you can't Adrenaline Rush as often, or concussive.

Digging the "weight limit" concept, I don't need to sit for an hour doing calculus to allocate my stats to enjoy an RPG, I love how ME2 and ME3 seem to emphasize the Role Playing rather than the Game. Though it's too bad DAII ruined the hardcore RPG franchise of their's, and now I hear DAIII is looking at Skyrim for inspiration, cannot express my dismay enough.

I'm actually curious as far as if you can be different classes with different races.

Can you make a male Quarian? can he be a soldier?

(stuff like that. I mean, if each race is limited to a specific gender and specific class, that's just going to suck.)

Also, I hope they make it so you can be a geth. That would be epic.

I'm wondering if soldiers will be able to use SMGS as well as assault rifles, or instead of them, or not at all.

I think it would be cool to be able to use them as well. I mean soldiers really rely on their extra ammo for their weapons (Not having any powers besides the bonus power) and as far as mass effect 2 goes, the game sucks on insanity when you run out of ammo. It would be nice to have the extra weapon, since this is the only bonus that soldiers get.

My understanding is that all classes can use all weapons but are limited in the amount that they can carry (I've also read that you can go over the limit but at a penalty to power recharge time), I am unsure if the weight limit is standard or different for each class in which the soldier will most like be able to use all of them without a penalty.

Will the humans have the N7 patch on their armor as well? It would be great if they do.

I hope there will be some vocal and decision interaction. I doubt it though. I am fine with running and gunning. I just hope I can be part of a team, who are also overseas contractors. Or a all human Soldier team. Anyone interested?

With the concept that the Special Forces N7 designation being almost non-existant.  I doubt it, plus after looking at Chewins blog, doesn't look like it anyway.

They haven't bothered releasing any new personel for the N7 besides Kai, Anderson, and Shepard.

Or balanced, and practical.  Make you work for your marks.  Don't be surprised if the Xenos counterparts to the classes can do their abilities a little better than humans can.

I think Casey said something that we have to unlock them in SP.  It will most likely be if you gain the support of the asari then you will unlock the asari character in MP.

Even if vocalization isn't REQUIRED, I think it's gonna be a necessity if you hope to survive all 11 waves. Communication is essential in strike teams of any kind (marines, SEALS, SWAT); this should be nearly identical.

Erryone out there go buy a mic. They're fairly inexpensive and, in almost every facet, will greatly enhance your gaming experience, especially when it comes to co-op and multiplayer. I've met a few really close friends over XBL that I probably wouldn't have without vocal communication.

The without penalty part goes with not having extra time on your powers.  For example, a vanguard can use all 4 weapons but because he is holding so many weapons his cooldown for charge goes from 8 seconds to 24 seconds.  I don't know how much the weight will increase the cooldown but I'm pretty sure it will be substantial to keep players from being a tech/soldier hybrid or adept/soldier.
