I think the big thing that will level the playing field between the "weapon oriented classes" and the "power oriented classes" would be the absence of any time dilation effects for (high level) charge, sniper scope, and adrenaline rush, or whatever powers are implemented.
I have a feeling MP vanguard will be tougher than SP vanguard, and likewise with soldier and infiltrator.

See, I only play Vanguard, ever. Tried playing a default Soldier Shepard and gave up after two hours. Why? I'll tell you why. Because of manliness. You can't be expected to hide behind cover with your squad mates when the enemy is standing there out of cover, mocking you, showing you just how much of a coward you are by hiding from them and trying to justify it by calling it "strategy". No, as Vanguards we do what is right, what is honorable. We meet the enemy face to face, and if it were possible, I'm sure my Vanguard brothers would agree that the use of bare hands would be readily exercised. So engineers, adepts, soldiers, sentinels, the other one; don't look at your Vanguard team mates as fools, rushing in where "strategists" fear to tread, join them. Join them in their campaign to bring a sense of rugged manliness to the battlefield.

Remember the omni tool melee attacks. Also even playing as an Infiltrator I've done some stupid crazy stuff at short range and come out on top..

on top... as the last corpse on that heaping pile :P

I loved this blog and I hope there will be more

Imagine 4 Infiltrators. It's one big game of Hide and go "DIE" :D

And Infiltrators come out of a two-day lurk cloak and stab the winner in the back.

Omigod, thank you Mr Weekes. After just finishing a game as an Infiltrator with my good Vanguard friend Nexis7, I was constantly frustrated by how she was first to everything. Sure, I was backing her up, reviving her, picking off those extra enemies, the problem is, I get no credit for it. I always end up bottom of the leaderboard because my good work doesn't rack up as many points as hers.

A rare quote from Jacob Taylor comes to mind. "It's like pissing in dark pants. Warm feeling but noone notices."

That's what it's like playing Infiltrator with a Vanguard. So I'm off to my chatroom to remind the girl she'd be nothing without me at her side. We'll make one hell of a team come March 9.

I play in an all Vanguard team so its basically, "First come, first serve".

Or more specifically, "First charge, first points"

hahaha

I have come to the sad conclution, that Vanguard is probably too easy..
Carry a pistol, and only a pistol, max out Charge and Nova, and then do the following...

Charge, nova nova, charge, nova nova, charge, nova nova, charge, nova nova ..........
till they are all dead..

Works even on the dudes with shields, tho if they are too annoying, you can always do a shockwave and two novas..

Maybe so, but try doing that on Gold. The Vanguard will always be the first to die with those tactics.

Such a good article...I haven't played with a Vanguard yet (my team general consists of Soldier ((me)), Engineer, Adept, Sentinel). Still, if I did and the vanguard played like that I'd be the guy swearing at them over the mic for making me run through a Cerberus army, getting shot on all sides, just to rez them because I can't sit back and let them die...too much L4D in me.

Loved the article. Haven't yet played any multiplayer though. Having too much fun with the different classes in single player. Any groups on the PC need yet another Infiltrator?
