Steam has won.

There is zero information on cancelling. Even
contacting customer service has no option to
discuss it. This is bad.

you have to contact a staff member, don't know if it will work tho. I heard they have strict policies.

While I don't personally understand how the availability of a pre-load can affect someone keeping a pre-order - you need to contact Support. As long as you contact them before release they should be able to cancel your pre-order. If theres no option in the support drop down list, then put something close to it (Ordering Issues, etc).

Instead of cancelling (which there is none for EA products FYI, EA's policy, not D2D's), you can be patient, and be glad they're working on it. They have no obligation to give this service to you. You paid for the product, and only the product. Unless you gave them an extra 5 dollars for the preload, which you didn't. Shut up and be patient like the rest of us.

So.... they are con artists that refuse to return money even after lying. Ok, that is the best PR idea I have EVER heard. I can see why Direct@Drive has been around for 5 years... wait... 5 years?!

@psykpsyk, sorry... thanks, I figured as much. I hope they enjoy my 69 bucks.

@Korruptted WTF yes they DO have an obligation because the MAIN reason I got a preorder was for the preload. That was something they PROMISED you shill. If I had known, I would have ordered from Steam. They aren't doing me ANY favours you dill, I PAID MONEY FOR A PRODUCT.

They will only refund your money if you ordered it within 60 days. I made a ticket last week asking about upgrading my preorder to the Digital Collector's Edition and if I'd have to get a refund on my original order and put it towards the CE version. They got back to me the next day to basically said that because my order was older than 60 days they couldn't give me a refund. Shocked me a little, because they were going to be making $20 more dollars from me if they gave me the original refund. Ah well...

I was able to get a refund just fine. Mine was certainly within 60 days of ordering, though. So what the above poster said might also impact.

You can submit a ticket, but you won't get a response for a day or so. By then there will be preload or the game will be released.

Thank you for proving my point, I was afraid I would have to do it even more than I already had. I'm aware you paid money for a product, in fact I stated that in my post above. But like I said, you paid for Dragon Age. Not Dragon Age + a pre-order. They didn't charge ANYTHING extra for the preorder, regardless of which edition of the game you happened to purchase. Being an actual fan of the game now I preordered a while ago with no mention of a pre-order at all, with only recent confirmation that they would provide such a service. Sure, they're now 2 hours and 45 minutes, but I could give a rat's ass considering it's a pre-load, and not the actual release date. Even if the pre-loading for D2D starts sometime tonight at say, 6pm. You'll still have ALL NIGHT to download it, including all of tomorrow, accounting for more than 24 hours to have to download a product.

What an impatient little brat you are.

They are likely having server issues, it happens. It's happened with Steam during their pre-loads, and it'll happen again with both companies in the future. Pre-loading a few hours in advance won't have any impact on you whatsoever, just take a deep breath, go outside for a few hours, and it'll likely be available for pre-load when you get back.

Good grief.

That's GREAT if they are just having server issues but the temerity to not have an option to "CANCEL ORDER" is a slap to my, and everyones face. I would be CONTENT now if I could just order from Steam. And the other "really nice shill", I've never been as inundated with "EXLUSIVE PREORDER THINGAMAJIG" as I have with this game. It's silly, but I like trinkets in RPGs. I have since I played Bard's Tale 2 for the first time, and I do now. I've waited on this for 5+ years.

Also, Canada doesn't offer 50 Mbps download speeds (well, it does for 150 a month)so ever hour does make a difference. Also, i have to KEEP CHECKING OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND.... you get the idea.

Give me a god damned new timeline D2D.

For what it's worth, the D2D download is a lot smaller than the Steam download, 8 gigs versus 15 gigs, so even if you start late you might finish around the same time. And as long as you finish before Tuesday what difference does it make, I have the Steam version but really there is no reason to panic.

Okay, this is how. Unless I was a hardcore drug addict, there is no way I would be late to work over 3 hours, unless there was an accident or family emergency. It shows a lack of professionalism the like I haven't seen since Interplay was taken over by (you know who). It doesn't fill me with confidence that I'll be playing this on the 3rd. The fact there isn't a cancel order option ANYWHERE(nor does it even mention it anywhere on the support pages)infuriates me, as I could be done with this fiasco hours ago. Lastly, the idea of it being half the size of the steam download scares me.

It's funny. You keep calling me a shill, yet you're the own proclaiming your discontent with D2D and declaring that steam is a better medium all around.

Okay, let's break it down to binary for you.
Is Steam doing preloading RIGHT NOW (yes)
Is Direct2Drive doing preloading RIGHT NOW(no)

That is the only reason. Personally I don't like the idea
of having steam taking up resources in order to play
nirva.. Dragon Age, but, at this point, I have no confidence
in D2D. They stopped updating their twitter 3 HOURS ago.
Unless you are a shill, I don't believe you even exist.
The customer is always wrong doesn't work if there isn't
a monopoly.

Jesus Christ, I pre-ordered from D2D too but somehow I'm managing on moving on with my life.

Maybe you need to just stop and contemplate what an amazingly privileged life you lead where you can waste the whole day on a computer refreshing a screen, and where the most frustrating issue in your life right now is not being able to preload a VIDEO GAME.

This post wins!
Also being one of those people who ordered off D2D i agree. Just get over it, a bit of patience isn't going to kill you.

With downloadable content, there's just no security. Get used to it. This doesn't only go for D2D. It goes for Steam, EA, Bioware, Bethesda - all of them.

As long as there are people like kevlarcardhouse, it will always be that way, simply because there's people to suck it up and not complain, no matter how much they're getting exploited.

@kevlarcardhouse, but now you are here! Move on with your life!!! Why are you even going to play DA:O if you've moved on? Do you know the min is like 60+ hours?! That sounds like a commitment to me bud. ;) And if there >>happen<< to be crippling bugs, we might hear from you again. CHEERS ;)

It's an 8-10 gig download depending on each service's compression format. My Steam pre-load was around 10 and unpacked to 15, it's not a mystery or something to be "scared" about. D2D has a website full of FAQS about canceling pre-orders and their policies, screaming that they're liars and thieves isn't true at all.

The pre-load is a PERK. They are not canceling it in any way, shape, or form....it's just been delayed due to a technical error. It's happened before, and it has always gone live that day, anyway. If your download speeds are so slow that a few hours when you'll have at LEAST an entire day tomorrow to download it are a genuine concern, perhaps digital distribution isn't for you? I understand that the availability of broadband can be low in areas, I was there myself a few years ago. But...you knew the game was advertised at ~20 gigs when you pre-ordered, that is your fault, not D2D or Steam or whoever else you'd like to get angry at.

Nobody is forcing you to check over and over and over and over, that is entirely YOU. Do laundry, read a book, watch tv, listen to music...SOMETHING. Come back and check the d2d twitter occasionally. This snarling rage and taking it out on posters on the BIOWARE forums, who have no power to help you whatsoever, doesn't do anything but make you look like a fool.

Seriously. Just chill out.
