You should know that is like the only one really like that (at least from what I've seen) unless you count Satele Shan's outfit as incredibly sexualized. Many jedi robes basically cover up the wearer. Hell I don't think that outfit is called Jedi robes its something else.

Oh thank goodness. Did not want to deal with that.

EDI just takes control over a body and it doesn't mean she ceases to be the ship.
No, but it's a silly and unnecessary direction for game to go in. It is very shallow.

On these very boards there's been discussion of why Femshep is popular, and it's in protest to the scruffy, mainly extroverted 'hero' persona that's pressed upon every male protagonist. The stereotyping exists on both sides of the spectrum, and honestly people here blow it way out of proportion. This is Future Fantasy, people. Inspired by the works of Star Trek and Star Wars.
I'm sorry you feel so insecure as to be offended by a fantasy representation of your gender/race/stereotype in an entertainment setting. But seriously, get over it. Suspension of disbelief is a critical function in enjoying a video game, and forcing your own political views and machinations upon game developers ruins it for far more people than it 'satisfies'.
Considering the context of this game throughout it's history, I'd say they've struck a good balance between the various desires. Just because the woman in the game aren't butt ugly (the one's you don't roll, anyways.) Does not suddenly mean you're in a barbie doll sexland game. Femshep, Aria, Ash, hell even Liara to an extent have all developed depth far beyond their appearances, and EDI had a developed personality before she even got a body.
Giving EDI a body, one that is actually could be considered attractive in spite of it's mechanical form, might actually provide some depth and development of her character, as the concept of sexuality and the murky morals of cross-synethetic/organic attraction come to light, and she is forced to consider it.
Now the whole 'unnatural!' gag Joker stated becomes a serious matter to think about and weigh in on. This wouldn't be possible if EDI was still bound directly to only the Normady or the body looked like some ugly death droid.
I'd go so far to say at this point, that those who balk at the aesthetic representation of beauty, without looking at the deeper matters it may represent are just as guilty as the fanbois who gawk at the sexualized form of women for cheap thrills. There are two extremes to this issue, not one.
So until I see how it's been done, in the actual game itself within the context of the story. I'm going to reserve judgment on this. I'll chuckle that Joker finally get's an opportunity to 'tap' EDI, considering Seth Green's comments on it from ME2. But beyond that, I'm interested in seeing how this develops as a story element.
Those that cry that EDI has a body at all or that she's not horribly robotic and ugly missed the point of introducing the element. Comments about changing Legion to the Silver Surfer is missing the point as well, as Quarian/Geth matters are a whole separate issue.

I never really saw what was so special about her being the ship in ME2. All I ever saw was an AI who at one point would probably want to be more. Like the geth. Like the AI on the Citadel. Like the Reapers.
It helped cement the bond between her and joker and it made for a nice speech when she talked about the hull being her skin, the sensors her eyes, and the core her heart.
She was at that point an anthropomorphization of the Normandy.
Agreed. I really liked that dialogue.
I don't like much the fact that EDi becomes a squadmate, because I don't see the reason for that. The Normandy was (and probably is) already her body, and I don't see the reason to have her as a foot soldier. There were a lot of better choices (in my opinion) for the squadmate's place. And the Joker-EDI romance is ridicolous. Even if there's the possibility to lead Joker on not pursuing the relationship, there's still a dialogue we have to see (I hope even the dialogue it's avoidable in some way).
Anyway, it's not the most ridicolous thing of the IP, and it's not that big problem for me.

If it were ugly I'd still cringe at it.
It adds nothing. It is pure fan service. It's thus cheap writing and I find it insulting.
I like to be able to take Mass Effect seriously but things like this really make that hard.

That is like the only Jedi outfit I've seen like that in that MMO. That is the only outfit in the Old Republic that is actually a lot different than a male outfit. Probably just tossed in their for some difference.
True enough. The other outfits for Jedi are the same cloak and hood stuff with slightly different colors. Variety is great but if you wanted to wear that one and you were a female then you were SOL. Regardless about other options it comes off as the developers saying women characters have to show skin or have their outfits be more sexual in nature.
Sex isn't a bad thing. Everyone does it...even dear old grandma...but if it is in the wrong setting or wrong context it is creepy and feels like pandering to people who just want T&A- not real characters.

It gives us another avenue in which to debate inorganic life versus organic life. In context, concerning the reapers and the Geth, it makes sense to have that debate. I wouldn't call that shallow.
The fact that there are strong opinions on boths sides of why this should or should not be tells me that its a discussion that we need to have (not neccesarily you and I, but the fanbase and developers).
I hope that it opens of avenues of discussion with EDI and those it affects. It was so lightly touched upon in ME2 that it could use something controvercial to spark that conversation in ME3.

I'm actually not at all against the idea that EDI has a 'body' or becomes a squadmate. I find that idea very fascinating, and I feel like that was inspired by 'The Doctor's Wife', one of my favorite episodes of Dr. Who
My issue is that the artistic direction was - 'We gotta make her look SEXY'
That's just weird. If she's meant to be a squadmate - a character who is suppose to fire weapons and shoot things in the head, how the heck does 'SEXY' fit in the equation?
If EDI were a male AI program, I guarantee that his humanoid form would not be SEXY.
It'd probably look like Legion. Or a goddamn suitable mech.
I'd be down for a suitable mech.

I let that one go since that really fits her character it isn't like Miranda who would wear a skin tight outfit in combat. I could easily believe Isabella would wear something like that.

It's a little late for that discussion seeing as it has already been done.
It's not the right kind of discussion either.
I'm not going to debate this on philosophical grounds beyond the fact that I think it is atrocious how much worse ME3 has gotten with the blatant appeals to sex appeal.

To be fair that was like one of the weakest outfits unless you were at a really low level. It was basically an outlier in outfits while the rest were pretty much the same for both genders.

At least with Legion you could use it as an excuse to meet a geth and interact with them in a non-violent way.
What is the excuse for EDI? You already know EDI. She already has a body. She's already present in all missions.

I keep saying this; the excuse is to give you a guaranteed tech squadmate without having to go to all the trouble of introducing a new character. They have to hand-hold the people who got all the rest of the tech squadmates killed, and so they put in EDI.Saphra Deden wrote...
