I just can't wait for folks to see where EDI had originally come from...though it will probably upset a few as well.
It blew my mind when I first saw it.

In ME2, she was a good, though a bit underdeveloped character, in ME3, she'll be a good, developed character. I wanted to see her developed more, and I've got my wish.
It's true, I'd rather have some other squadmembers instead of her, but I feel that she fits into the overall story. She blurs the lines between synthetic and organic, which is an thing important for ME3's storyline, she raises a lot of interesting, philosophical questions and goes through magnified versions of some of our universal struggles (where do I fit in the world, what is my value)... Plus, her personality is very likable.
But what gets me most excited about EDI is the sheer potential of it all. There is a lot of things Bioware could do with her character, I just hope that they A) realize this and
As for her design. I can't say I'm a fan of it. I mean, form a purely aesthetic point of view it looks fine. Good in fact, very vintage and classic and yet somehow modern at the same time. If it were just a picture, I'd like it. But as a character design in ME universe, particularly with the story that was given behind the body, I just don't think it fits.
Oh, and EDI/Joker romance is pretty sweet. It's helpful when it comes to driving certain points home and I have enjoyed watching their relationship develop in ME2. And there was a lot of development, whether you thought it was romantic or not. I always felt like there was a little subtext there, but I didn't take it seriously, even though I should have.
It's funny how we value the same emotion differently based on its point of origin. A chemical reaction or a series of codes, it's real to the one experiencing it, no?

Please let "You're a person EDI." be optional. Like my renegade Shep said in ME2. She's equipment not crew. He doesn't need another personality transplant like he got from ME1 to ME2.

Legion never refers to himself as a person nor does Shepard. Heck Legion even chastizes Shepard during his mission for treating the geth like an organic race.

I consider her alive though. Just not a person. She will never be a person. I'm just amused that Shepard flat out calls other AI not alive. As long as he can keep that up in ME3 I'll have no issue.

Yes I have.
Highlight spoilers below
He calls himself "I" right before he dies. True enough and no my Shepard would not consider him a person or treat him like one. He's an invidiual geth in that scenario nothing more.

I still think EDI on Joker is too
much. Can't we go for more of the traditional computer on computer stuff.
No.
I mean, sure, but that would defeat the point. And I believe that the point lies in the merger ending. If we become more like synthetics, do we really lose anything? Do we become less human in the process?
Looking at EDI and her relationship with Joker, it is pretty clear that we do not.
She serves as an example of a possible outcome which would sound too vague
otherwise.
She is a person though. She's got free will, thoughts, feelings and everything. Medigel heals her like everyone else. She's equipment not crew.
But yes, your Shepard can be a douche if you want.

It would be interesting to see if they become two distinct individuals or they just update each other's program all the time.
If there is only one EDI program (for whatever ridiculous reason) we might have a way to kill off EDI for good if we put the robot body into a perilous situation!
