I can't seem to get an answer for this in the manual or online anywhere...
What I've read is that XP can be gained "by killing an enemy," but does the XP from kills all go to the party member who does the killing, does it get split up and divided among all party members, or does it go to each party member (that can advance by XP) regardless of who delivered the killing blow?
A related question is whether party members who are otherwise dead at the time of the killing do actually get the XP if they're revived.
Due to XP greed, I've been preventing other party members from delivering killing blows in favor of my PC getting the "honors," but I'm betting that's a waste of time. Nevertheless I don't always see the white XP gain numbers show up with every kill either...

I think (I'm not certain) the one that preforms the kill gets 75% of the XP and the other party members get 25% Or something to that extent.
I have no idea in regards to your other question.
Edit: Just found this on the Wikia.

Experience distribution is full on-screen amount for the character doing
the action (killing an enemy, picking a lock, etc.) and 2 experience
points less for every other party member. For example, let's say the
main character kills a genlock and the experience point gain shown
on-screen is 33 exp. That character will have 33 points added to his/her
total and each other party member will get 31 points added.

I think it gets rationed to all party members, even the ones at camp because sometimes I'll go for a specific character for a specific task (ex: shale with small ice crystals and large fire crystals for dragon tanking) and he'll have gained like, 6 levels since I activated him. same with Sten (who I rarely use) I'll bring him out for a task i need brawn for and he'll have 4 levels stacked on him.

DragonAge Wiki has this to say:
"Experience distribution is full on-screen amount for the character doing the action (killing an enemy, picking a lock, etc.) and 2 experience points less for every other party member. For example, let's say the main character kills a genlock and the experience point gain shown on-screen is 33 exp. This sounds about right, although I think there are other factors that determine how the characters level up. There is never, as far as I know, more than one level difference between the main character and the other members of the party.
The only time I ever worry about XP is when I reach lvl 25 as the main character. That ordinarily places all the other team members at lvl 24. They all need to earn more XP to reach that final lvl.
