You have to take into account that if you go beyond the films, the Star Wars EU is beyond anything ME has touched on and, sadly, will never touch on. ME really is like Uncharted. Both take the best, and arguably the worst, of each of their respective themes/genres and run with it. In the end at face value, what these games do will ultimately be superior to what has been done in the past.

But again, it's difficult to compare two completely different experiences across mediums, even if they're in the same genre.

It sold out before it could even get to the second game, I seriously doubt it.

Frankly, I've always viewed ME as owing far more to Star Trek than Star Wars. When I was playing the first game, there was barely any character or plot device or alien race I didn't recognize from the Star Trek universe. Indeed, many fans of both ST and ME have described the ME games as "the best Star Trek games ever made". Star Wars is more like fantasy with a Sci-Fi theme, while Star Trek (and ME) is straight up Sci-Fi.

Without Star Trek, there could have been no Mass Effect.

Star Wars was part of my childhood, but after George Lucas began running the entire thing into the ground it's now a has-been to me. The last straw was when he even went so far as to "modernize" the original trilogy.

Short answer: Mass Effect has become much better than Star Wars, and I can see it being considered a "classic" in the years to come.

Better than SW?

I don't know. I love the original trilogy and also I'm a huge fan of Star Wars. Pls. don't make me choose. :)

But in my ME2 review I wrote: "Mass Effect is the Star Wars trilogy of video games."

Mass Effect is the new sci-fi brand like Star Wars, Star Trek, Stargate, etc.

Great review video OP. Is Mass Effect better than Star Wars... ask me after I beat ME3, but I suspect yes, as incredible as Star Wars is

I would place Mass Effect a peg below Star Wars. It may have a more in-depth story and better character relations but it will never have the influence Star Wars does, and for good reason, Mass effect just doesn't have that same fantasy quality that Star Wars does. ME says this is how it is while Star wars leaves a lot more for interpretation thus allowing fans to immerse themselves deeper into it's EU and allowing them to come up with there own conclusions for why things are the way they are in Star Wars. Besides, The Star Wars EU timeline is 28,000 years long

Once, the ME movie is released, then I'll decide which one is better. Game-wise, hands down Mass Effect is definitely better, no contest.

I honestly don't understand what a man gets from roleplaying a female character instead of a male one, reading novels where they switch characters and it comes around to some female and her "feelings" is hell however you can't not read it or you might miss somethingImage IPB.

Well not everyone's got a great imagination or enjoys endeavors that challenge their own worldview. Don't fault those who do.

In terms of enjoyment? Ya. For sure.

Story? Well, not gonna lie to you but this is basically the Mass Effect story:
1. Turian superhero working with Geth to bring the Reapers home, Shepard knows Prothean (a very promising start)
2. Shepard dies, filler enemy with little relevance in the grand scheme of things, Shepard gets a bunch of recruits
3. Reapers are here, Shepard uses red or blue to bring species together to make superweapon and kill Reapers

The lackluster main story is backed up by the books/side missions/etc I suppose. Overall, yes, I would put Mass Effect over Star Wars but not because of the story.

Mass Effect will never be BSG/Stargate/Firefly though =]
EDIT: Farscape too.

Maybe after ME starts throwing out novels by the dozens.
Really; I was in a Barnes and Noble a few days back and I actually counted: there were 58 books on the shelves that had Star Wars affiliations. It's almost ridiculous.
It's like wondering in Origin will ever be better than Steam. You could combine every other digital distribution platform into one, multiply it by fifty, and Steam's still bigger.

Mass Effect is basically Babylon 5 with the Force and even douchier "First Ones". Oh, and the space station is now a billion years old.

It COULD be more awesome then Star Wars. However I fear that they've painted themselves in a corner. We'll see in ME3 though.

It's going to be really hard to beat Star Wars at this point, I will say that with the Old Republic games Bioware has validated the Star Wars universe, made sense of some holes and generally made it great. Along with a string of novel writers. Lucas gets creds for the first 3 movies, after that... Hmm not so much.

I saw a list, it was more than 300. But his included comics, and each episode was counted, so it might be a lot less if those individual comic issues are rounded down from lots of little issues into one big series. Still a massive EU though. You know it the starwars wikipedia on its own is probably larger than most novels, and the wiki only gives the short versions of everything that happen. Whenever I try reading the starwars novels, I remember  just how big it is, and just how disprespectful lucas was to the EU with the latest movie trilogy.

I just can't do it.

I like Mass Effect's universe better than Star Trek... but as a universe, Star Wars can't be beaten. You either like it or you don't... but there's no sci fi universe that does what they do 'better.'

I think Mass Effect is a better Star Trek in a number of ways though.
