But again, it's difficult to compare two completely different experiences across mediums, even if they're in the same genre.

Without Star Trek, there could have been no Mass Effect.

Short answer: Mass Effect has become much better than Star Wars, and I can see it being considered a "classic" in the years to come.

I don't know. I love the original trilogy and also I'm a huge fan of Star Wars. Pls. don't make me choose.
But in my ME2 review I wrote: "Mass Effect is the Star Wars trilogy of video games."
Mass Effect is the new sci-fi brand like Star Wars, Star Trek, Stargate, etc.

I honestly don't understand what a man gets from roleplaying a female character instead of a male one, reading novels where they switch characters and it comes around to some female and her "feelings" is hell however you can't not read it or you might miss something.
Well not everyone's got a great imagination or enjoys endeavors that challenge their own worldview. Don't fault those who do.

Story? Well, not gonna lie to you but this is basically the Mass Effect story:
1. Turian superhero working with Geth to bring the Reapers home, Shepard knows Prothean (a very promising start)
2. Shepard dies, filler enemy with little relevance in the grand scheme of things, Shepard gets a bunch of recruits
3. Reapers are here, Shepard uses red or blue to bring species together to make superweapon and kill Reapers
The lackluster main story is backed up by the books/side missions/etc I suppose. Overall, yes, I would put Mass Effect over Star Wars but not because of the story.
Mass Effect will never be BSG/Stargate/Firefly though
EDIT: Farscape too.

Really; I was in a Barnes and Noble a few days back and I actually counted: there were 58 books on the shelves that had Star Wars affiliations. It's almost ridiculous.
It's like wondering in Origin will ever be better than Steam. You could combine every other digital distribution platform into one, multiply it by fifty, and Steam's still bigger.

It's going to be really hard to beat Star Wars at this point, I will say that with the Old Republic games Bioware has validated the Star Wars universe, made sense of some holes and generally made it great. Along with a string of novel writers. Lucas gets creds for the first 3 movies, after that... Hmm not so much.

It COULD be more awesome then Star Wars. However I fear that they've painted themselves in a corner. We'll see in ME3 though.

I saw a list, it was more than 300. But his included comics, and each episode was counted, so it might be a lot less if those individual comic issues are rounded down from lots of little issues into one big series. Still a massive EU though. You know it the starwars wikipedia on its own is probably larger than most novels, and the wiki only gives the short versions of everything that happen. Whenever I try reading the starwars novels, I remember just how big it is, and just how disprespectful lucas was to the EU with the latest movie trilogy.
I just can't do it.

I think Mass Effect is a better Star Trek in a number of ways though.
