However, if true, then ... that would be most welcome news.

At least, there would actually be a perk to purchasing the physical copy over the digital if one doesn't care about the toys

You: Did you guys lose my original comment? If you cannot read the original comment, I\\\\\\'ll paste it as a future note, so please just tell me if that\\\\\\'s the case. The complaint is that I want to buy Mass Effect 3, but I don\\\\\\'t want to install Origin onto my PC. The many reasons I do not want Origin on my PC are all listed in my original comment. There is no good reason why Origin should be required.

Advisor: Hello Anthony,
Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.
I understand that you want to purchase Mass Effect 3 but do not want to install Origin on your system.
If you do not want to install origin and want to purchase the game, please order the Physical purchase Mass Effect 3.
You would not be able to play the game without Origin, if you would have digital download. You can play the game with the Disk if you do not want to install Origin.
If you want to order Mass Effect 3, please visit origin.come website and order the game for physical purchase.
If you have any further questions or concerns please reply to this email or browse our extensive knowledge base online at http://help.ea.com.

You: Up until now, the official word has been that even physical copies will require Origin to be installed. If what you are saying is accurate, I\\\\\\'m very happy with that. I had planned to be a physical collector\\\\\\'s edition, anyway.
I\\\\\\'d much appreciate it if you could double-check on this to be sure, because there are many other PC gamers like me who eagerly await this news. There are many PC gamers who have decided not to buy Mass Effect 3 due to the previous Origin requirement, and if I could tell them it\\\\\\'s no longer a requirement for the physical release, I\\\\\\'m sure many of them would be happy to re-order the game.
Again, thank you for your assistance.

Advisor: Hello Anthony,
Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.
I appreciate that you contact again to confirm regarding the game play.
For the time being we do not have recent updates as game has not been released yet, but you can purchase the Physical copy of the game becuase it might be possible that you would be able to play the game online without origin, but offline play you do not need origin.
But I want to provide you the update which was decided on the release of Battlefield 3.
Origin is currently required to play:
· Battlefield 3
· Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12
· Need for Speed: The Run
· Gatling Gears
· FIFA 12, FIFA Manager 12
Future releases in the coming months will also require Origin to play.
For more information and updates, you can visit the EA-Forum.
I am looking forward for your reply.

Okay, at first I thought he was changing his mind or softening his stance about what he said with "might not require Origin." Reading it again, he said definitively that we would not need Origin for the single player when using the game disk, and that we *might* not need Origin for multiplayer when using the game disk.
Now, I'm going to PM Chris Priestly and Stanley Woo to see if this customer service representative has the correct information and if not, how I can move up to the next level/strata/whatever of customer service representative in my customer feedback. If it is correct, I'll then ask them both if they wouldn't mind me spreading this news to a few news sites to garner positive feedback about the game, where this news can be noticed by those who have already decided to abandon ME3.
I would also like to remind everyone that if this is not correct, I am sure it's a matter of miscommunication with his department and another, and not actually his fault for giving the wrong answer. So please, no hateful remarks.

Well, he replied already. So I guess he feels he's done adequate double-checking, like I said he might want to do. I'll now paste the conversation so far, continuing from my last set of quotes:Now, I'm going to PM Chris Priestly and Stanley Woo to see if this customer service representative has the correct information and if not, how I can move up to the next level/strata/whatever of customer service representative in my customer feedback. EA needs to update Origin to have an offline mode and to remove the need for Origin booting up on Origin games unless a person plans to use internet connectivity or multiplayer.
Origin does have an offline mode.
And what happens if you pull your internet cable out ? the game probably won't work

question:
Do I need internet connection to install my physical copy of the (dvd) game into my computer? And I dont speak about registration, if and when I have internet connection. If the physical copy of the game demands internet connection, that means Origin is in the middle and required.
The funny thing is, EA and all other companies who choose software’s that demand monitoring and internet connection for their games (even if the game plays offline). They punish them self’s..
There is always people who never buy things and they always do piracy, nobody can avoid that. With this methods, they force ALL legit gamers to do such a things! So yes.. they punish them self’s..
Instead of trying to force such a ways to gamers, I would suggest you to find better ways to motivate gamers, also make better games, that means mucho money.. If not, ur loss.
I am going to type this info again because I was in shock. Last night I ve read that EA suggested to install Origin inside nintendo wii U.. oh my god.. are you crazy!! And you think, believe, that we are going to buy a virus in our living room? To make phone calls? To add credit cards and you believe that there is 100 million nintendo customers who have internet access? Because wii sold 97 million consoles.. Nintendo will sell less than 5 million if they accept to add origin inside the console.
oh.. Is going to be Nintendo disaster if they accept your suggestion.

Games like ME3 with single player will still work as it only needs an initial activation like all other games these days and as it has been stated earlier in the thread you can then play offline.

Whatever. I'm already gonna isolate Origin. And as mentioned by AN EA EMPLOYEE, doing that is NOT "circumventing the DRM".

But well, I suppose it's just a misinformation and we'll soon get a corrected statement about Origin being needed for the retail version. Unfortunately.

Honestly I view steam and Origin and whatever other online DRM i'll see in the future, I simply dont care and will play what I want to play EULA or otherwise.
-course I have a gaming pc that is ALWAYS connected to the internet and has very little important information on it. (My important files, information are on my "work" laptop so as to not always be..."on" so to speak.

I dont trust this info, I will wait up to 2 months after the official release, and if that’s true, then I buy it.. The same thing said for reckoning, but I was informed from reliable sources, that ORIGIN is required.
Not true. Buy the game on Steam as the studio is self-publishing it there. You may have to login with an Origin account but the client is not necessary at all.

Origin has the offline mode and works without an internet connection after registered/activated and with exception of online multiplayer which obviously requires need to be 'online'.
~copy of the game becuase it might be possible that you would be able to play...
"Might be" also can stand for "I don't know, but here's my random guess..."
Future releases in the coming months will also require Origin to play.
ME3 is future release due out in coming months.
Now I'm not going to get involved to be honest in this thread but I did think that needed saying in order for people not to have their hopes completely smashed come release day. EA reps don't always know what to say especially one's who are not native English speakers when responding in English. EA help is generally good but I have in past spoke to more than one, on one subject and they give conflicting advice sometimes.

Its not about being online or not when playing single player that battle was lost back with GTA 4 (sadly).
To me the problem is that EA in opposision to Steam as an example do not explaing in their clause what they are collecting data for and thus have free reign to do whatever they want.
Steam state some very explicit intentions for the data collection so if they for instance start going though your email correspondance to your GF they are in essence going beyound their clause and are therefor doing something illegal.
In short its not about what they are doing, its what they are alowed to do wich in Origins case is just about everything!
Furthermore the " opt out" that is explained at the very start is still puzzeling me. It is Origin that draws data so i guess that means you can stop origin getting data from the ME3 game? So i guess that means that they do care about collecting data from their games to make them more stable, as long they can get their hands on everything else?
