Let's level with each other here. Neither the Mako nor the Hammerhead were fun. At all. In any way. To be honest the Mako had a lot of potential, but they made it clunky, slow, and just entirely incapable of fun.

Disagrizzle. The Mako was fun as hell for me and The Featherhead was fun as far as speed is concerned.

Hey, new to bsn.

So...anyone ever notice how small the Mako was? Makes me wonder how Shep, and two more passengers could fit.
But I still love the Mako over the Hammerhead.

Welcome to the BSN!

Yes, its been stated that the inside of The Mako is cramped.

Honestly, the interior of the Mako being cramped is a good thing when you consider all of the spinning and rolling it could do. Heh.

Mako and Hammerhead were both extremely lackluster. I'd rather have no vehicle section than anything resembling that.

Hope at least the Atlas will be fun to control, but since Bioware already made a pretty good mechgame once it should be fine. :)

It's a difficult thing to balance.

The developers /could/ have given the Mako realistic measures of size and mass and friction and resiliance, etc, which would make it feel more like an actual heavy rover and less like a scale model of one, but that might have brought us into simulation territory, with realistic time, as well.
If it actually took as long for such a vehicle to accelerate and decelerate and turn and just travel any distance, as it would in real life, we would be looking at a very much different kind of game.

Same sort of arguments goes for the Hammerhead.

(Surely more than one person used short bursts of the Mako's jets to smoothen the ride over uneven, but level, terrian, btw?)

It's kind of funny how the fact that it was a chase sequence, made the airtaxi part feel like you had way more more control than you actually did. :)

Actually, the reason I hated the mako was because combat boiled down to: fire main gun--->spam machine gun--->jump over missile over and over and over and over and over.

Actually, the reason I disliked the hammerhead was because combat boiled down to:
fire main gun--->damn, some forgot the machine gun--->jump over missile using the hammerhead jump feature.

Yup, I can see your point

Not small - about 2 meters high, hull only. Even more if Shepard's height is more than "typical" 175 cm/ 5'9''. Width is adequate enough, for 3 in row or 2+1 seats layout. That's should be tight, of course, especially with Wrex inside, but it's IFV, not luxury liner.
What really is interesting, is M29 Grizzly. What I don't get - who was that idiot, who adopted it for 30 years of service? He'd better had THAT day as day off. No rear suspension (and don't tell me it's Leman Russ alikeImage IPB), unclear turning mechanism and really cramped crew compartment. If they branded it as Volus' IFV, that'd be Ok (well, no, even in regards of crew compartment size), but no, human alliance...

I love the Mako.  The cardboard IFV floater was a machine for chore collecting.

For God's sake, Shepard has more health than the Featherhead.

You have to take COVER. WITH A VEHICLE. IN COMBAT.

Is it only me interpreting or does your titlement of the Hammerhead as Featherhead and your avatar pony looking not so kindly upon the descending feathers in the .gif have something to do with each other?

No. I renamed the Hammerhead the Featherhead back when the DLC came out. Some folks liked the name and it spread a little bit(which made me smile).

Rarity in my avatar having feathers falling around her is just a coincidence.

Although it is funny that there's feathers there and its her head. Featherhead. Hahahaha

I love how the Mako was in the Normandy when it crashed yet is still completely intact. Embedded in a rock yeah but still intact.
You know what would be awesome? Mako vs Landmaster vs lolHammerhead.

Replayed ME1 and 2 back to back recently. The firewalker missions are the most boring and unimmersive in the series. The combat system is so dumb and boring it's insulting. While the MAKO took getting used to and had lot's of unused potential and some planets had stupid terrain with artifacts hidden between spikes of rocks, the combat with it was fun and added a lot of diversity. And I actually felt like driving on another planet where I could leave the MAKO anytime. Not just a linear arcade level that looks like the hammerhead shrunk down and is flying through a giants world to collect packages in a very abstract way.

Well, it's normal practice to hide from enemy fire. Plus normal sights (so to speak) and turret traverse allows you to destroy enemies if not effortlessly, but definitely without scratch - practically from "hull down" mode. Yes, Mako has shields (and thank God for them, dunno how we could make that run to Conduit otherwise), Hammerhead... What Hammerhead has? Cute duct fans? Yes, I like C&C Orca very much, but Orca can fly, unlike Hammerhead (well, it can fly, like plush toy - if you kick it well enough, but not far, for long and not too highImage IPB). Hmm, I wonder, can Orca perform barrel roll? Because Mako surely can.
So, ME2 is simplified version of ME1 in everything, including IFV: in Mako you had to aim and drive carefully and do all that yourself ("OMG, it is SO difficult and complicated!"Image IPB), but the prize was worthy enough (splash damage shots to smoke geth out of cover (well, "kill them" is more correct), by aiming your cannon behind them (wall or ceiling will do), while in Hammerhead you can move in any direction on same speed and basically don't have to aim - self-guiding missiles will do all the job (though they miss at hard banks).
And one thing that amuse most me in Mako: even if during your jumps (well, actually fallsImage IPB) you managed to land on barrel's muzzle (intentionally turned turret to prevent roof landing, since Shepard is no Master Chief and cannot turn his vehicle back) the one and only thing that will be damaged will be front right wheel. How is that?

P.S. No plush toys were harmed during typing this post.

Thats just it, you didn't have to climb them. There was always a way around.

The routes were never that long. They took a a minute or two, it wasn't hard. You actually ran into enemies doing that.

You can make a mix of both - not so short gamble, not so long boring. Usually at the end it will be faster and funnier than any of both. Image IPB

the first two playthroughs of mass effect, I didn't mind that.  but I wish there was a fast travel afterwards.  well it was one or two minutes between destinations, on some planets there were numerous destinations and they dropped you in the middle of it; add up those destinations and minutes and you can find yourself driving up to 20 minutes to get everything.  maybe Im just impatient after several playthroughs to re-explore planets. ^_^

btw, I love the mako, its the terrain I got tired of.

well if there were pyjaks to shoot along the way....then I would have no qualms about that.

Drive carefully, mind speed limit and release throttle of you start sliding - high chances that Mako will "glue" itself to any slope. I remember only two really annoying planets to travel. Actually to specific places on those planets. And only if you try to move somewhere else after arriving to those places. If you choose return to Normandy and re-drop yourself back or finish mission entirely - they are far less annoying. Since, well, Mako surely can fall. Image IPB
