This just started and I have no idea how to fix it. Dropdown menus to pick things like area in a cutscene or level for an area aren't showing. I just get that bloody ding that tells you a window is waiting for you to do something, but no window is visible. What the heck do I do? If I reinstall the toolset, will I loose everything? Is there another solution? *pulls hair and panics*

Could it be that there is a hidden message or Toolset log window waiting for you to click "ok" or some choice? If you can't find the log window, try alt+tab to see what you may have open.
Or to find out what just happened, go to the menu View> Other Windows > Log Window.

I'm sure it's another window, but I didn't know how to get to it with everything freezing up like that , waiting for a response. Alt+tab.... Thanks! Nothing is showing in the log window. I'll go try Alt+tab right now!

Nope, no other window, nothing in the log window.... I can't even minimise the toolset or close it without killing the process. This is very, very bad.

I would try restarting the Toolset / computer. If every time you start the Toolset it locks up, there may be a problem that spans outside of my area of knowledge. I can only assume it may have to do with database connection, lack of, or some other possible conflict.
To answer your last question in the OP, you will not lose your saved work upon reinstall, as long as you backup your database.

So...backup the Bioware file in documents? Is there anything else I need to backup?
LOL! Oh good, backing this up is going to take 3 hours. Well, it's good to do even if I hadn't had a problem.

To back up your database look at the no. 3 entry in this post.
Or you can look at the "Using Back up and Restore Batch Files" entry in the Toolset Wiki
It really shouldn't take long at all.
Edit: Also, when backing up, make sure to save your Module Add-In Folder, and all the art assets within. Otherwise things may not load properly once you have restored your database.

Thanks so much! I really, really appreciate your help on this!
Edit: is that sql server the same for everyone? What about the database name?

No problem
I can't really give you accurate and informed info on this other than you should leave the database name as is. \\BWDATOOLSET is the name for the default database, is the same for everyone and is particularly helpful when sharing B2Bs. You can name your backup file anything you wish.

Is it an issue of the forum deleting the backslash? or are you missing the backslash in C:\\DAbackups ?
Edit: Unfortunately backslashes are problematic in group posts. I'll have to make a note of it in the post

That was it, it's doing something now. The instructions you linked to had no backslashes and I'm feeling literal today.
. I figured that might be the problem, so I tried putting them in on the directory paths, but apparently missed them on the file names. Looks like it's okay now..... added them to everything but the database name. Thanks again, this will be invaluable in future!

No problem. You might want to consider renaming this topic to something a bit more informative so that others may benefit from the info shared in this thread.
