I start the game and reach the "press any key" stage; after doing this the screen goes black and i get the error message "Bad Name Index 1507400/90" which causes my game to crash instantly. I'v tried reinstalling numerous time. I purchased the game as a digital download from steam and worked fine when i purchased it and after i upgraded to windows 7 and seems to have been broken by an event that i cant put my finger on.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

1) Verify game cache integrity using Steam, to eliminate a corrupted file.
2) Click Start, then type "Reliability" into the search bar, click on "reliability manager"(iirc) to bring up a part of Win7 that tracks all crashes and events and logs them. Bring up the events for your crashes and see if it has more info on what if anything other than saying just ME crashed, like a link to Video or Audio hardware.
3) Reinstall manually DX9, steam may not install correctly, goto directly to MS to get.
4) Verify that you have actually set the game itself to run in admin mode, not just admin for the account.
5) Search your ME folder for the config utility and run it to see what your settings are, and make sure your video resolution is set right, as well as the hardware listings are correct, and peek at the Sounds menu and see what it is set for and post here.
