I was reading in the Starwars vs ME forum that some guys think playing as femshep is wierd and unnatural.

Why is this?

Personally I like playing as female shepard because of:

a) better actor
B) more interesting context having a female hero
c) I like seeing blindness to sexism in a game (mostly femshep is treated like maleshep - refreshing)
d) I prefer to play as a slightly more sensitive looking character then some mug alpha male who I would feel intimidated by if I met in real life.
e) I wanna be friends with femshep in real life, cos she seems nicer then stupid angry male shepard
f) I get that ellen ripley vibe.

Oh, I should say, I PLAY Both. But Femshep is my "canon" shepard if that makes sense.

I'm a lady and I play as both genders, but I prefer Femshep. I find no shame in playing either really, don't know why it's such a big deal.

So you dislike your own gender by stereotyping it? Good to know.

I don't play FemShep because there isn't enough facial/body customization to leave me satisfied with playing her as my own character.

Male, I play FemShep. Why? If .50 caliber sniper rifles had voices they would sound like Jennifer Hale.

Comments about stupid angry Male Shep mainly, not really sexism but just ignorance or being picky.

Im a man who plays manShep but I can totally see the appeal of playing femShep regardless of what gender you are yourself and vice versa.

I'm male, and I role play. Can't roleplay as a female cose well... I'm not female.

So yeah, I just play maleshep. In saying that, I don't think it's "weird" that males play femshep... but it just doesn't work for me.

Also, I may be in the minority, but from what I've heard, I don't like Hale's voice. Far too "butch" in my opinion. I also don't like Meer with a Paragon Shep, but with a Renegade shep he is, in my opinion, borderline perfect.

Guess it's lucky Renegade is my main playthru :D

I like to play both. For some reason though, I decided to make my man-Shep a paragon and my fem-Shep a renegade. I think that Hale's voice suits a mean Shepard.

a). Subjective. Plenty of people don't like Hale's more emotional style (I personally think both VA's are very good)
B). Don't know what this means
c). It's not sexism to portray males and female differently. ME2 got lazy
with the FemShep animations like walking and sitting by having them the
same as MaleShep.
d). You wouldn't be intimidated by FemShep? I'd be intimated by Male and FemShep if they were Renegades.
e). Stupid angry male Shepard? Hale is generally more emotional in her VA work and they have the same dialogue...
f). Fair enough

well in some cases fem shep has some diffrent ones

like in me1 when you go to harkin he makes that sexual remark to you and that herpes joke

in me2 i found femshep has had more diolauge between certain charachters like mordin when he says hed like to mate with her

and garrus... i mean come on the heat sink joke deserves a award because that was just golden

as a straight male im really interested to see how the jokes will fly when it comes to the same sex romances for both genders because i hope they can top that heat sink crack

The implication here is that FemShep is anything other than alpha as f*ck. That confuses me.

Agreed, Hale makes her sound like one bad*** alpha female.

Also agree! I can't imagine anyone else as Femsheps voice.

I'm dude and my canon is a femshep. I have about a 50/50 split of manshep/femsheps out of all my playthroughs combined.

Lots of people don't care to play the opposite sex, maybe it make them feel out of their comfort zone or something idk. Although people who specifically say others are "weird" to play the opposite sex probably have some sort of gender insecurity issues.

i play as both equally but i prefer femshep because i personally love a female badass character, probably why my femsheps are mostly renegade too. kind of a subconscious decision i guess.

I don't know why this topic always comes up again and again. Obviously because every season new boys reach puberty. Funny enough girls don't have these kind of issues.

Anyway, people have no problem to play as a robot, or hedgehog, alien, etc., but female characters? Oh no the outrage! So there is not much common sense necessary to figure that one out. People need to grow up. But obviously playing video games doesn't help much with that.

It's not blind to sexism.
I'm reminded of sexism with Harkin and the Batarian recruiter.

I don't see the problem and can understand people's reasoning behind playing a different-gender character. Personally I could never do it, I strictly play male characters. Especially when it's a RPG where I try to immerse myself as much as I can. I personally can't pull that off - it's a matter of not wanting to play someone else really - with a female character.
