Male. Mostly femshep, my canon is anyway. I have two maleSheps and six femsheps (one for each class).
I don't typically play "me" in a game. Coming from a D&D background, part of the fun of the game is in creating the character. As a guy, playing a female allows a certain discontent that makes creating the character a bit easier for a first playthrough.

I'm a male and I prefer playing male Shep. I like the idea of creating a strong black male leader figure that the US media seems afraid of. Ironic that a black man could possibly save the galaxy from destruction. I like Meer as the renegade Shep because I actually find a lot of humor in the way he reads the lines. I've also played as fem Shep and I like the way Hale delivers her lines. It seems so natural and emotional. But I do enjoy playing as a male the most because I connect more with the character.

So you dislike your own gender by stereotyping it? Good to know.
I don't play FemShep because there isn't enough facial/body customization to leave me satisfied with playing her as my own character.

I was reading in the Starwars vs ME forum that some guys think playing as femshep is wierd and unnatural.
Why is this?
Personally I like playing as female shepard because of:
a) better actormore interesting context having a female hero
c) I like seeing blindness to sexism in a game (mostly femshep is treated like maleshep - refreshing)
d) I prefer to play as a slightly more sensitive looking character then some mug alpha male who I would feel intimidated by if I met in real life.
e) I wanna be friends with femshep in real life, cos she seems nicer then stupid angry male shepard
f) I get that ellen ripley vibe.
