Why are we still talking about this? It's already been established that everyone plays as both and no one thinks it's weird.

Stop coming on here to flaunt your "political correctness". Nobody cares.
Speak for yourself, please, and don't use the tired phrase "political correctness" in an attempt to drown valid criticism.

I'm not attempting to drown anything. I'm just sick and tired of people coming on here and acting like they're the "enlightened ones" because they happen to play as both genders. They have this pathological need to make sure everyone knows what a good person they are, and I'm sick of it. And, yes, I'm quite aware that not everyone posting has that motivation, but several do.

I guess for me seeing fshep boxing yahgs, lifting vs on her shoulder, punching Saren's lights out, first fighting a bunch of Turians, and a bunch of other situations scream guy territory and while seeing China do all the above I can totally buy seeing my fshep do these things with the swagger of a man is not.
I would rather see her compensating like kick box the Turians, or go Thai fighter on the yahg since I use to do martial arts, or a novel idea just shoot them as a 5ft 2 110lb girl I'm not even under weight redistribution tossing over a 300lb man it ain't happening. I have no aspirations to go toe to toe with a 6ft man and expect to win that fight so I apply such things to fshep she's no body builder so she shouldn't be behaving like one.
ME was obviously written with a male protagonist in mind the situations the character is placed in fit perfectly with that role fshep was an add in and while she can do it I find a few instances were I just can't suspend my belief for her like the yahg moment I spent the whole time face palming, mouth gaped, and saying what the hell! when she would hand to hand him. I prefer to play the sex the game feels made for while having the gender pick option is nice it flows alot better when you play the sex of the character the role was meant for.

It's not athleticism, it's simple science that's the problem. All else being equal (amount of training, diet, etc.) men will always be stronger and faster than women. Although with the Cerberus implants it would be more likely. Though to be fair, I don't think male Shepard could've realistically taken on the Yahg, either. That thing was massive.
And again. "Gasp"? Why must you make everything out to be some sort of feminist tragedy? From a realistic standpoint, an average size female is not going to physically overpower an average size male. Noboday has a problem with athletic females. But unrealistic Hollywood BS? Definitely.

I play as fshep mostly but I think the ME world is more suited to mshep just most of the situations shep finds himself/herself in are more believable under male then female shep to me. I like fsheps voice ME - now and pre SB didn't like msheps now after SB I'm liking it alot more and am looking forward to playing 3 first as mshep for once.

I agree with the general sentiment of this post. Playing Mass Effect, it's quite obvious that the storyline and plot was written in mind with Shepard being male. I still believe to this day, that Shepard would have been a much better character (and a lot less generic) if he had been fixed (like Geralt of Rivia), rather than open to interpretation.
But that isn't Bioware's style unfortunately.
Still, I do not begrudge women (and some men) for getting the opportunity to play Shepard as a woman either.

Get off your high horse. I don't prescribe to the feminist movement its very divisive and pits women against women.

Hence "Although with Cerberus implants it would be more likely." That still doesn't work for Mass Effect 1, though.

Can't we just assume that whilst Sheploo might be physically stronger, femshep is herself adept enough to do all the stuff we see her do and get on with our lives? She's a genetically and (later) cybernetically enhanced space marine in top of the line battle armour. Just let it go for a change.

When i play RPGs i try to put myself on the spot primarily, and with all the male characters hitting on "me"... just makes me sick to my stomach... never could conclude a female playthrough in any game and as of ME2 (specially with imports) i gave up and never even tried...

Having males making sexual advances on me is an uncomfortable situation even if i refuse them...

Dude here. For me, the trick is to imagine that I'm suddenly not FemShep and that I'm actually Kaidan (or whoever you're romancing). I don't know about you, but I'm very attracted to FemShep, both mine's appearance and just the idea of such a kick-ass, capable, charismatic, and compelling woman.
Anyway, that's how I get through the M/F romances when playing as a female.

I generally play as a male because I find it a little easier to relate to a character who is the same sex as I am; but I really enjoyed the play through I did as femshep.
I did feel more like I was playing a character and less like I was being myself when I was playing as femshep; but that's not necessarily a bad thing. And as a number of people have noted Jennifer Hale does a really excellent job playing Femshep.
You just gotta be careful not to hit on Jacob.....uggghh.

Oh good, the "femshep wouldn't be strong enough to do cutscene stuff, because she's a woman" thing again. I never tire of that one. Wait, no, not 'never'. The other thing. 'Immediately'.

*sigh* I'm not the one who started this argument. Hollywood and the media won't let it go, therefore it's a little hard for me to. And I'm sorry, there's no "might". Males are stronger than females. End of story. Does that make them worhtless or incapable as heroes? Certainly not. Courage is not gender specific. But don't sit there and tell me she's realistically going to do EVERYTHING in the cutscenes. Hell, Male Shep couldn't do half this s***.

You be quiet with your sissy "let it go" talk. Shepard punching out something the size of a truck is totally plausible, but a girl doing it? Now that's just plain crazy. Dang politically correct feminists ruining the believability of my video games. I'm going to go online and complain about it.

I've never really seen someone of my sex making an advance on me as any more uncomfortable than if it had been someone of the opposite sex whom I'm not attracted to doing the same thing. Have you tried playing it off like that?
