Just to clarify, I find the excuse stupid from both the perspectives of males looking at females and females looking at males.

It's stupid because men that play as female toons tend to appreciate other things beyond staring at a female's ass and vice versa for women who play men.

I don't get what you're saying. I criticised people playing a certain gender exclusively for eye candy, nothing more.

Or I guess we could just keep rehashing the same points over and over and over for all of eternity.

Just stop judging people for playing the gender they prefer...no problems there.

The good thing is that this game provides you the option to play whichever you prefer and that's great n stuff.

Why fight over which is better or which gender should play which?...madness I say!

I said from the beginning that I don't care who plays as what. I just get steamed at the people trying to make this out to be some battle for gender equality. That battle's been over for a while. Stop looking for reasons to cry "Sexist!" You're well past the point of annoying.

I was reading in the Starwars vs ME forum that some guys think playing as femshep is wierd and unnatural.

Why is this?

Personally I like playing as female shepard because of:

d) I prefer to play as a slightly more sensitive looking character then some mug alpha male who I would feel intimidated by if I met in real life.

Thanks for confirming something I've always thought about guys that prefer to play as females in video games (not all but some).

That their reason for preferring to play as females, is because their inherent masculine identity is weak or under developed.  Masculinity (or the Societal ideal at least) makes you nervous and fearful, which is why you cannot identify with MaleShep like most men would.

Luckily guys like you are a small minority however..  The last thing the world needs is a larger population of feminized men.

It's only unpleasant if you're one of those feminist/commie pinko types that believe men are simply larger versions of women, and women smaller versions of men.

I'm none of those and yet the unpleasant implications have grown.

Yep, I agree. I play both. I care about femshep as much as maleshep. And not cuz ass. :?
Playing something different, a different gender, a different race, etc etc, is always good for a new experience in an rpg or a video game. When I play maleshep, I play as if it is me. When I play as femshep, I imagine a character, with her own personality.

Otherwise, I will never understand all those fight about which gender is better, and I judge you for choosing this gender, just pick your preference and that' s it. -_-

@ alex okay but maybe next time : " Those who take the opposite sex to look at their ass  make me cringe. "  If your issue is honest and global as well. Or at least, if you want other folks believe it is.

I am a guy and I play male Shepard.

I rarely play female characters as it is.

And I think Mark Meer is just so much better and it fits the character. Jennifer sounds like icequeen all the time, like she doesn't care about anything. I think Mark's voice just fits the paragon character better, atleast there is more emotion there.

By the way, forgive me for my ignorance in this matter, but what exactly is a "pinko"? I've heard the term before and I pretty much get the gist of it by seeing how it's used in the sentence, but WHAT THE HELL IS A PINKO??!!!!!

Have you heard Jen in other things?
Shes a really good actress. Apparently, they had to make their voice as dull as possible to fit every character that is made. Thats why she sounds like an icequeen.

It's a game played on The Price is Right. It involves placing a disc on a flat surface full of pins and trying to get the disc to land in the center slot. People tend to get really heated up when people miss obvious moves.

Personally I like playing as female shepard because of:

a) better actor
B) more interesting context having a female hero
c) I like seeing blindness to sexism in a game (mostly femshep is treated like maleshep - refreshing)
d) I prefer to play as a slightly more sensitive looking character then some mug alpha male who I would feel intimidated by if I met in real life.
e) I wanna be friends with femshep in real life, cos she seems nicer then stupid angry male shepard
f) I get that ellen ripley vibe.

Oh, I should say, I PLAY Both. But Femshep is my "canon" shepard if that makes sense.

I'm pretty much with you

Some people like to imagine they "are" the character the play (possibly to the extent of delusion) and are unable to grasp that many other gamers don't.

The truth is that if I was Shepard, I would have died long before the first game began.
No version of Shepard is me and I disliked manshep as a person (because he came across as a dumb aggressive jock who would probably pick-on an a wimpy nerd like me)  so much in the first game so much I had a
difficulty completing thegame with him. (didn't seem so bad in ME2)

Im male, but i always make a playthrough with the male and  one with the female character. I do this with every game that gives me the possibility of choices. The reason is, i want to see every part, every movie-scene in the game.
Same reason why i make playthroughs with different classes and with different choices. If i wouldnt do this, i would miss several parts of the game. Im just too curious, so i dont want miss any piece of content in the game.

I'm female and I try to play a female character first if there is a choice in games - female Shepards are me RP-ing me as a big goddamn hero.

But I do play male Shepard and like the experience - probably because the main story is the same for either sex. (And this is the reason I'm looking forward to playing Kingdoms of Amular:Reckoning because being male or female does not affect the story line just their physical appearance.)

Having the same story no matter the chosen sex of the PC is a cosmetic choice that lets players enjoy the game their way, but it also offers the chance to role-play a different gender if that's what they want. What could be wrong with that? (rhetorical question only)

Honestly I don't know, I mean I did play the first ME with both male and female character but the male one was just boring to me. Kicking ass around the galaxy with a female Shepard is way more fun, expecially if you go for a renegade character. And, let's be honest, Jennifer Hale does have a great voice, I just can't see anyone else voicing Shepard but her.

So you don't like sexism, and yet you specifically want a female hero and specifically do not want a male hero, don't like strong males, and even though femshep and maleshep have the exact same lines, you think femshep is nice and maleshep is a "stupid angry male".[/quote]

Right.

Because it helps immersion to play a character of your own gender. It's also why a lot of people try to model the characters after themselves, to further help immersion.

Males prefer to play as females & females prefer to play as males... Odd.

This is a good place to observe particular groups of people.

in my dozens of playthroughs, I play both male and female sheps. I do this because of the voice acting, not because I care about the gender of my game avatar.
