Why?

We have the original 6 and the additional 12 from ME2.  Now one would think we do not need additional characters, the squad would just consist of a few of the 18 characters already assembled.  Of course, you'd be incorrect.  Bioware wants to add new characters to this already massive cast.

Why?

How in the hell do they want me to get closer to James Vega as opposed to Wrex or Mordin?  These are long running characters.  You've had experiences with them.

The addition of new characters is just stupid and possibly the most irritating news I've gotten regarding ME3.  Second only to the race class restriction in multiplayer.

Wrex can be dead, Mordin can be dead. James is always alive at the start (and possibly throughout the game) and also serves to help new players get situated.

Why not?

Same reason they always add new races. New games have to have something to set them apart from the old game, always need to have new content simply for the sake of it being new, otherwise someone will say it's X 2.5 or 1.5.

Bioware received some funding from MTV to promote Jersey Shore.

If they didn't add any new squadmates, wouldn't people complain that Bioware is lazy?

One could assume those people aren't very intelligent.  I would rather get more from past characters than a brand new ugly guerilla thing with a stupid face.

And just about your whole squad in ME2 including Tali and Garrus. That only leaves you with VS, Vega, Liara, and the 2 members and the DLC squadmate if he isn't one of the 2 new guys. That leaves you with 5 to 6 squadmates if you went this way. It also helps the people who went this way so they aren't left hanging with the old crew they already know though hopefully still love and what to see the outcomes of their decisions.
I know it's your opinion OP but you're not the only one that needs to be satisfied. I you won't like these new characters than don't use them when your not forced to. Simple.

One could assume that you aren't very intelligent either, given that you are incapable of telling the difference between the words "gorilla" and "guerilla". Not that Vega is either.

Because characters could be dead and ME3 needed more sexy new perma squad mates.

Well let's be honest, the word  "gorilla", not used very often.  Not that big of a mistake or issue either.  Definitely not worthy of judging someones intelligence.  However someone who tells me BioWare is being lazy for not adding new characters?  Clearly an idiot.

Yeah, but what does that mean?  I mean, Garrus could be dead but he made it into the sqaud.  What could Grunt, Jack, Miranda, or Jacob even possibly be doing other than supported Shep?

to be fair, you dont know how the majority of characters will be occupied throughout ME 3, I think its pretty well known that some squad members will be temporary team mates, or even just dead. Gotta fill up those spots with someone, and im not gonna judge vega till i see him in the game. I remember the same stuff being said about Jack.

They probably needed another character who would be alive in every playthrough. Every single squadmate in the series can be dead by ME3 except Liara. You'll always have the VS, but even then they had to record dialogue for two characters, one of which will always be absent in every playthrough.

Depending on your playthrough, Shep's permanent squad in ME3 could be this (if no new characters were added):

Liara
Ashley/Kaidan

Wait until March and find out.

The fact that all but two squadmates (VS and Liara) have the potential to be dead berays your point. Thats why.

That's what people asked before ME2 comes out too.
