VS will probably only get a role like the other characters from ME2.

Bioware received some funding from MTV to promote Jersey Shore.

I'm going with this theory.

So if I bulked up and got a mohawk, I could be on Jersey Shore?

You would also need to insert 'Phwoar' after every fourth word.

..wait no. That might be Geordie Shore.

In which case if you want Jersey - you must finish each sentence with "Ya know?"

Because characters could be dead and ME3 needed more sexy new perma squad mates.

Yeah, but what does that mean?  I mean, Garrus could be dead but he made it into the sqaud.  What could Grunt, Jack, Miranda, or Jacob even possibly be doing other than supported Shep?

Ultimately, it means Bioware cared more about returning a plot-irrelevant fan favorite than other more plot-relevant characters, and so deemed the fan payoff worth the trouble that marginalized most of the others.

Basically: Team Dextro gets Love.

Fan service is a glorious thing.

Well, it's not like game quality suffers from it or anything.  They contribute an awful lot to the story in ME3.

The way lots of people whing on about how they're favorite character didn't make it to ME3 as a permasquaddie, they would likely prefer the quality of the game to suffer in exchange for their waifu or husbando to be in the game as a permasquaddie.

Garrus is irrelevant, but Tali isn't.

If Bioware didn't take fan input into account, we'd all still be driving the Mako through mountain ranges.

We are only getting two new squadmates and one is vital from a plot stand point. I'm really curios who the other one will be.

I'd rather drive the Mako than the Hammer head.

Seriously, this is how it ALWAYS goes: Bioware does something that will please some/most people, but not you, it's "stupid fanservice."  But when they do what YOU want, even though it pisses OTHER people off, it's "taking fan feedback into account/good writing."

EVERY.  DAMN.  FANGROUP does this.

Frankly, they could give us all a squad of complete strangers and it could still be an amazing game.  We'd just be pissed about it.

Here's hoping. I haven't read the script, so I can't comment on the roles of each ME2 squad-mate. If the quality is anywhere near what the Loyalty Missions were, I'll be content.

Which, to the best of my knowledge, they are also getting rid of. Again due to fan input. Also they're dropping planet scanning. Fan input again.

One could assume those people aren't very intelligent. I would rather get more from past characters than a
brand new ugly guerilla thing with a stupid face.

I want a mixture of new squaddies and old returning squad mates from ME1 and ME2. Does that make me unintelligent?

On the reverse - this would suggest they didn't take fan input into account.

Fan input + Critical Review + Market Research + Popular Game Trends + Own opinions + Game Direction = end result.

Fan input is a double edged sword - it does as much damage to some fans as it brings joy to others.
