Fan service is a glorious thing.

Says the fan of the most fanservicey character in the games so far.

Seriously, this is how it ALWAYS goes: Bioware does something that will please some/most people, but not you, it's "stupid fanservice."  But when they do what YOU want, even though it pisses OTHER people off, it's "taking fan feedback into account/good writing."

EVERY.  DAMN.  FANGROUP does this.

Are you Superman? How many buildings did you leap to jump to that conclusion?

You are so far the only person to disagree with her.

I fully accept that Bioware isn't always going to follow my plan when designing a party. As for your statement, I find "stupid fanservice" and "taking fan feedback into account" to be one in the same, in the grand scheme of things.

You likely only read the first sentence.

They are, but "fanservice" and "feedback" have different connotations attached.  Same process, but with different feelings.

And for the record, Lemon, I am not Superman.  Superman is pickles compared to the power I possess.

Why does Blizzard always include damn near photorealistic cutscenes in all their games and take so much time in development to ensure that everyone will like the end product? Why does Bethesda always make such long RPGs in such large environments? Why does Nintendo maintain such an obsessively high level of quality control when debugging their first party titles? Why does Luna die in a horrifying way in almost every "The Luna Game" title? Why does Call of Duty have so many weapons?

The answer is, when developers try to make good games, they tend to stick to their guns. Writing interesting characters is the one thing Bioware does better than any other studio, so if they didn't add any new squadmates, they'd be leaving out their strongest suit.

It's hard to jump to conclusions when there is evidence to support that conclusion.

You quite obviously haven't read the script. If you had, you'd see how ridiculous your statement is.

Well, I'd be more than happy with Zaeed and Grunt as permanents in ME3.

Let's look at things on a worst case scenario.

Squadmates by Game:
ME1 - 6 potential squadmates
Ashley Williams or Kaidan Alenko: Only one survives Virmire
Liara T'Soni: She's alive.
Garrus Vakarian: Alive.
Tali: Alive.
Urdnot Wrex: Possibly died on Virmire.
So at the end of ME1 you may only have four squadmates survive.

ME2 - 13 potential squadmates w/ all DLC.
For Shepard to survive, only two squadmates have to live.
Miranda Lawson: Possibly dead.
Jacob Taylor: Possibly dead.
Garrus Vakarian: Possibly dead.
Tali vas Normandy: Possibly dead.
Liara T'Soni: Alive. Does not count as one of the two that have to survive for Shepard to live.
Urdnot Grunt: Possibly dead.
Jack/Subject Zero: Possibly dead.
Samara or Morinth: Possibly dead.
Thane Krios: Possibly dead, definitely dying.
Mordin Solus: Possibly dead.
Legion: Possibly dead or sold to Cerberus.
Zaeed Masani: Possibly dead.
Kasumi Goto: Possibly dead.
So at the end of ME2 you may only have three squadmates survive.

ME3 - 4-14 potential squadmates w/ all DLC.
If the two surviving squadmates from ME2 are Garrus and Tali then the only Squaddies available for ME3 would be.
Ashley Williams or Kaidan Alenko
Liara T'Soni
Garrus Vakarian
Tali
That's only four squadmates if things went badly, but not badly enough for Shepard to die, in the first two games. Bringing in new blood was the only way Bioware could get out of that corner they painted themselves into.

I'd be on board with this, just because I think Grunt and Zaeed are total badasses.

You're just going to put up with the fact that I am god damn fabulous, Lemon.

But you cannot deny that Dat Ass contributed very little to story integrity, much less the tight spandex it was wrapped in.

But we like Miranda anyway.  And I liked that Tali and Garrus became romance options, even though it would have never happened had the community not begged for it.
