My first playthough of Mass Effect 2 was on Veteran, I loved my first playthrough but in hindsight, wasnt much of a challenge so probably got through it too quick.

In later playthoughs I finished the game with different classes, Vanguard on Hardcore then a Infiltrator and Insanity. Finishing on the harder settings took a while longer but was much more rewarding to make it through.

With ME3 being the last game, Definately! dont want to rush through it on a easy setting. You only get to enjoy your first playthough once.  Im thinking Hardcore for my first playthough. But still on the fence whether to go straight to Insanity (could be intimidating as Bioware said it will be harder than ME2).

Thoughts?

I know I'm going straight to Insanity. Re-playing Mass Effect 2 and playing Gears of War 3 on Insane have gotten me ready to take on anything ME3 throws at me.

If you like the challenge, why not go for it on Insanity. Worst case, you can tone it down if it got too frustrating.

I've never played ME2 on anything but insanity, so in ME3 insanity it is.

You are brave. Gears of War 3 on Hardcore was frustrating enough at times.

will it be possible to play on insanity right off the start?I thought it had to be unlocked after your first playthrough?

It's been confirmed that Insanity is unlocked right away (just like in ME2).

I do not see any reason to play on anything but Insanity to be honest. The first playthrough is always the longest and full of surprises...might as well add the best combat mode in the mix.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware of this. I do love a challenge so I will be tackling on insanity day 1 :wizard:.

If I have the option to go straight to insanity thats what I'm doing. Did that on ME2 and it was awsome. I'm going to try and not use heavy weapons/medigel/unity like my first ME2 playthrough. I hope ME3 is the game to make me break my no items rule I use for all RPG's. If I end up having to use medigel or pull out a heavy weapon I'll definatly be smiling. lol is it weird that I want the game to be frustratingly difficult.

Seeing as I only play ME1 and ME2 on Insanity now, both being relatively straight forward, I'll probably jump straight into Insanity. I can always bump it down if it gets too much.

I always play on the casual level my first time through for the sake of enjoying the story with little challenge. Then in my future playthroughs I do Insanity since I'm used to the game.

Always play on easy since I prefer story over combat, but I will be going to normal with ME3 just to give a tad more desperation to the situation, I cannot play at higher levels I just don't have the reaction time and find nothing more annoying than reloading over and over.

They did say though, if I remember correctly, that they increased the difficulty quite a bit, so ME2 Insanity would equal ME3 Hardcore

I beat ME1 on insanity. Other than certain areas, it wasn't too bad. ME2's insanity was frustrating and not fun for me though. My last run through of the game I played on veteran. It felt too easy for most of it, but I never bothered to up the difficulty. I think the easy feeling was partially because I knew what to expect.

I'll probably play on veteran, or maybe even normal, for ME3. I never start on the really hard difficulties. On the first run through I just want to enjoy the story.

Which still equates pretty much Normal difficulty on any other game. Shall be going straight to Insanity myself, especially considering first playthrough is always a Soldier. That'd be incredibly tedious if it isn't challenging.

Try doing the part with Cole on Insane. That bit where you're sliding along that railing with a pistol, you'll end up getting insta-killed the moment you land so many times. Or the bit where you're going up a lift later on and a gunker appears in the middle of your squad, you''ve gotta run around in circles shooting at it, lol.

At OP, I'll be playing on insanity.

I hope hardest difficulty isn't locked. That just wastes my time, and really ruins the experience for me.

I want my first time through to be definitive, and difficulty is included of that.

With Mass Effect 2's insanity, it didn't really make that much sense because most of the time you were battling standard mercs which should be no match for shepard and his squad, which kind of broke immersion for me.

But for Mass Effect 3, the enemies are way more threatening than that, so I will definitely be playing on insanity.

Casual. I want to enjoy the story more than anything else on my first run through. Dying over and over again would significantly diminish that for me. Plenty of time to ramp up the difficulty later.

...How?  It makes pefect sense, the highest difficulty doesn't have to be a naming conjection.

As for myself, I did Dead Space 2 on Zealot first.  Mass Effect takes a run or two of motivation for me to want to do Insanity.  However, judging from my achievement run for ME 1 and 2, I think I'll start off on Insanity, granted its already available.

Probably play through on normal as I normally do when I play a new game.
