But they let you skip Garrus and Wrex.

What is a pointless thing to do;)
Why not have Garrus and Wrex in team right from ME1? doesn't make sense.

Anyway I support in 100% the idea of smaller squad - that means each team member will be, as someone already menitoned, fleshed out and distinctive from others.

I want Garrus and Tali to be developed to the very bottom now, have lots of dialogue and new lore about them.

Knowing the spoilers now it seems the whole squad could be scrapped except Liara, and she was a creep in ME1 lol. I guess Ash maybe can hang around, for sexual favors for forgiveness after she pulled that stunt on Horizon.

Yes.. we may have that threesome after all

As much as I like Garrus and Tali, 'Team Dextro' starting to get a little annoying. Besides, I'm honestly suprised that Tali is back as a main squaddie, as soon as I heard about the Qurians going to reclaim their homeworld or whatever I just assumed she would be with her people and would turn into a cameo from that (a'la Wrex). The only seeming reason for both of them (espically Tali) being back is because of their rabid fanbase, and because ME2 squaddie's fanbase is a tad more placid they get the cameo treatment.

Whilst I like the idea of a smaller squad so therefore they have more depth too them, I was hopeing for a line up that actully included some of the ME2 exclusive squaddies. Don't get me wrong I don't hate the line up, but I don't particularly like it either.

Or, not and.

I don't believe it is actually possible to leave without at least one of them.  Otherwise you'd be stuck with one teammate on Virmire, right?

You can be stuck with just two teammates on Virmire if you leave recruting Liara last and don't pick up Garrus. Wrex auto lives in that scenario.

But it's either Wrex, Garrus or both of them.

I think Wrex stumbles upon you at the Citadel eventually, even when you try to avoid him and go to Fist without Wrex.
So Garrus is the only one in ME1, who can be totally skipped. (it's totally pointless to do so IMO)

Well you must have Tali and Liara, so you would still ahve 3 squadies. even if you dont have Liara you would still have Kaidan and Tali(I dont like ashley).

Dunno about Garrus but Wrex is deffinitely skippable. And killable. Again the only liked ME1 squadie.

It's true that G-man and Tali has the bigest support threads, but waht sou oyu expect from those who make it as full squad members for both games(I'm not counting ME3 yet.) With full screen time and dialogue wheel, there is alot to talk about. BUT they were put in ME2 because the fans wanted them romancable. OKay, the got it. Now it's time for Zaeed and Kasumi to get the same treatment

I like the squad and am so happy no one from the ME2 squad (except Garrus & TalI) is coming back cuz, you know, they were only there to stop the collectors.

I've got bad news for you. The ME1 squad was there to stop Saren. And techincly Thane joined to die trying.

I made a list of the first page. not the case anymore, but: Spoiler 1 nad Spoiler 2 were in the lead, followed by us. than the same-sex thread, and Thane. The ME1 squadies started to turn up. Firs Kaidan, then Ashley. And Back to ME2 with Miranda. Than comes our much respected oppostion(which will not remain such if they keep posting here) The Pro-ME3 squad thread. After that comes the Male and Female shepard thread and The TIM group. Then comes the Which char you hate thread, and only then does Garrus appear. On we go to Jack ,Shiala, and a MIranda vs Ahleyí thread. Here are the other two, Liara and Tali, just above the Kasum ithread. Looks like the returning squadies aren't that popular actually. Oh and Vega is not even on the first page. Oh, wait the hate thread is here. Under Kasumi and Samara

The only person I'm still iffy about is Liara, though I had a conversation about this about in her thread and they mentioned it was for good reason for it. So I'll wait till I play the game before I pass judgement. I wouldn't mind having Jack in the squad, but I'm happy with her current role because of her current development, otherwise it comes down just to playing the game and seeing what they do with each character.

No. Just... No.

ME2 had its share of plot-centric characters as well, it wasn't just 12 random people plus Shepard.

Yes, I'm aware of that.  That's why I was confused by "and".  =D

Honestly I hate the ME3 squad. If I had at least one of my favorite ME2 squad mates I would be fine (Jack who is my LI, Mordin, Miranda, or Grunt). I hated Liara in ME1 and I hated her in ME2 I played LOTSB for more Mass Effect. I'm okay with Ashely but I'm screwed with my play through where I saved Kaiden. I never liked Tali...I couldn't stand the fact that she was a walking codex and I just never found her interesting.

Vega seems like a dork. I don't like Freddie Prince Jr. either. I don't get the need for the other two characters either. Any member of the ME2 squad could have replaced them. Again I wouldn't have cared that much there was at least one ME2 only squad mate. Miranda was very useful and I always brought Jack along because of her awesome dialogue (and she was also quite useful). I just hope they don't have glorified cameos in ME3.

I'm really happy that Garrus and Tali are squad mates, they worked very well with my Vanguard Shepard. As for Liara...I could give a rat's ass about her...she's a nice character, but in my opinion it's very obvious that she is completely obsessed with Shepard, and appears to be infatuated by her. To me, it's sorta creepy...especially when Shepard already has a romance going with Garrus (and is going to remain faithful). I don't know Vega, so I can't really say anything about him. Ashley (Kaidan got nuked), I never used her in ME1, and I doubt that I will in ME3.

FemSpoiler should be thrown out the airlock and shot repeatedly with the Cain (I don't like her. Period.) Legion can EASILY replace her, and I'd much rather have him on my squad than her. (I can understand why he wouldn't be on the squad, being a geth and all...but Carole, my canon Shep, can bludgeon pretty hard, haha)

...MaleSpoiler, I am extremely excited for. I can't wait.

My ideal squad would be Garrus, Tali, Kasumi, MaleSpoiler, Legion, Wrex/Grunt (either, I like both of them), Vega, Ashley, Zaeed, and Jack. I'd imagine the other ME2 squad mates would help out, but have their own agendas to attend to for the majority of the game.

Anyways, that's just my opinion...so, yeah...haha

I still don't get the Jacob hatred. Out of all the new squaddies he's the easily most trusted. He's the only one who doesn't have a personal vendetta or motive, he's always honest and upfront about it, he's one of 4 people on the Normandy that's ex-Alliance (Shepard, Chakwas, and Jeff). Clearly if you were really int hat situation he would be the first person you'd pick to take with you on almost every mission because of the similarities i your pasts and his brutal honesty and integrity. He's possibly the most honorable of the crew (aside from Shepard) so I can't grasp the disdain people have towards him.

Is it because he's boring? If so I can think of 2 members in the ME3 roster that have proven to have the emotional depth of a shot glass yet they've been around for 3 games.

I only talked to him long enough to get him in my party at the start and I only talked to him about his loyalty mission and the ship upgrade. After that I didn't even talk to him, I don't trust him as far as I can throw him and he is super annoying.

I am quite happy with the ME 3 squadmates

Good to see some people agree with the ME3 setup. For the rest I am just glad you can't change anything now.

My personal opinion on Jacob is that EA was afraid that any negative portrayal of a Black male would be considered racist, so they made him as generic and dull and possible.

Or they just didn't know how to write an interesting non-stereotypical black man.

He's all right. Better than most of the white human males in the games, IMO.

I think Udina is a way more interesting "black" man (don't know his ethnicity but he's black/brown).

He could be mixed-race. I think that's supposed to be more common in ME than in present-day, although I'm not sure.
