as close as to myself as possible.

Why? well basically I wanted to see how good I could make a likeness of myself, and I spent three hours on it, after that I was like. I'm using this face now.

And it's stuck.

Because the default is modeled after Mark Vanderloo

Sheploo and custom femshep. Custom, that is... until ME3. Then default femshep all the way. She actually looks close to my custom one, so no need to make up an imaginary excuse no-one will ever care to hear about why her face has changed.

Default Shepard 3/4 times for the male department. Still consider the Character Creator to be a PITA.

Female Shepards: Slightly easier to make, but not saying much, especially if I were to base them off of women I had crushes on.

I use default a bit on Femsheps. Not on on broshep, gotta go custom. I cannot understand people who use the default Sheploo face over & over with different classes/playthroughs ...wtf?

Always custom males...as a woman I create what I find appealing and attractive in a man's face...I really just don't find Vanderloo attractive, so I don't use him....the scary thing is my daughters have told me I made my Shep again in Skyrim, just a hairier version...I guess I really like a particular look.

Custom sheps all the time, though only a few of them are actually made by me. Grabbed most of the decent looking faces from the face database.

Custom, it makes each playthrough more personal, and easier to differentiate between careers.

If a game has a custom character option, I'm going to use it, no exceptions.

Custom, simply because I find both default faces ugly. Also it allows me to add to my ever increasing army of custom ginger haired game protagonists.

The new Femshep default is good though, so I'll be using that if I can be bothered to play a second playthrough, assuming those pile of ****** endings from the leak aren't in the game and kill my enthusiasm for ever touching a ME game ever again.

Ideally Bioware should make a patch to use the new Femshep in the first two games, give the whole experience a bit more continuity first though.

Almost always custom - only one char of 11 is default, and that's Sheploo.

Default Shep is a rugged and handsome fellow, so I've always used him. and now that the community finally did something good (for the first time ever) and voted for the most beautiful FemShep as the default, I'll use her too

custom, add the few good features of my face, and then improve everything else. haha

It makes the character your own so when you watch other peoples videos, previews and trailers it doesn't ruin it for you (even though the voice is the same) and feels fresh when you eventually get to whatever scene

I created mine based on sam worthingtons looks. His backstory (earthborn,war hero) is that he was born in sydney australia, and when his parents and him where in america on vacation when he was 1 they died in car crash and cause the authorities couldn't find his other family they put him in orphanage. I know right?! I put too much thought in this!

I always use a custom male Shepard now.  When I first started playing Mass Effect 2 I used the default model but after playing around with the customization options a bit I was able to create a character I was satisfied with (just wish there were a few more hair options).
