That whole episode was one of the biggest disgraces ever for BSN, and that is really saying something. Shows that Bioware should never listen to the most vocal segments of their fanbase. First they derailed Garrus and Tali to please the small number of pathetic romance fans on these forums, and then this. I'm starting to think the less Bioware listens to the people here, the better.

Also I was angry at everyone else for not sharing my tastes. How dare you guys like things I don't?
Edit: In all seriousness though, I was sad that the one shep who looked military wasn't chosen. Most of the others had some fancy haircuts, and in once case died hair... But there was this one shep with short black hair, which looked like it was growing back from being shaved.
I was in love, and alas my heart was broken.

Both men and women play Femshep. So, no, you can't blame this on all those uppity, man-hating wimmenz alone. But he knows that already.

Actually I found the entire contest ironically hypocritical. After all the whining over how Miranda's (and to a lesser degree Ashley's) hairstyle was impractical, the community voted for the FemShep with the long, flowing, super-model hair. And then there was MORE whining because somehow Blonde females don't match the archetype of the strong empowering female.
The whole thing was just idiotic.
Easily explained by the people that really don't give a **** about (or at least don't give enough of a **** to complain about it incessently on the forums <--- that's my camp) Miranda's hairstyle outnumbering the ones that complained very loudly about it.
As for the second part, pretty much what Recon said. Apparently the FemShep clique here decided that having a blonde, white FemShep as default was chauvinist or racist or whatever (nevermind that the original default FemShep was also white).

I don't know about everyone here because not everyone's gender is immediately apparent but I paid attention to the Facebook threads that Bioware created, and many were males. I also recall comments sections on video game blogs where people spoke out as men who didn't like the nature of the contest and/or expressed the misigivings I mentioned earlier about the initial blonde Shep.
The OP's question was insincere and facetious, though. I'm familiar with his views on women and he's trying to prove some misguided point that if its only women who complained it can be brushed off as merely white noise (cuz they yak so much anyways). Somehow a woman's take on a woman character is irrelevant and oppresses his man freedoms or something. My first post here was meant to be aimed at general threadgoers and not really engage in the OP's nonsense, but still, I won't shy away from calling it out.

How does one sound black? I think her voice fits my black shep just fine.

This was actually my favourite Shep (would have been BlackShep, if not for the fail Rihanna hair) for exactly this reason. She's military - let her at least look it. She can still be attractive without having a retardedly impractical hairstyle for her line of work. I imagine part of the reason there was so much butthurt was that it was presented as a beauty contest.Edit: In all seriousness though, I was sad that the one shep who looked military wasn't chosen. Most of the others had some fancy haircuts, and in once case died hair... But there was this one shep with short black hair, which looked like it was growing back from being shaved.
I personally preferred the redhead over the blonde, but only for continuity reasons (default FemShep was a ginger-headed in ME1 and 2, might as well keep it close to that), but if she had a short cut or, hell, tied it up like the original GingerShep design, I wouldn't have given any sh*ts at all.

Oh man I remember this. Blonde Shep was winning by far; it was obvious that she was going to win and nothing could have changed that.People were furious, it was god damn shameful. This forum became a zoo during that vote.
The blonde was winning by far because she had a hairstyle and general facial structure that the majority of people liked. She accrued votes even from people who would have preferred other hair colours, because the overall look of the character was more important. During the voting, there were a conspicuous number of comments stating as such. I know I voted for her but stated that I'd prefer a redhead, just like the original default femshep.
The poll was far from scientific, which was the main problem.
