...Not exactly sure where you were trying to go with this, but if my guess was right, would now be a good time to point out that Ash's VA is also black?Hale doesn't exactly sound black.

How does one sound black?
Apparently, like this youtu.be/He09JaBVZdE
I guess so. You can't speak proper English and be black. That never happends.

Oh man I remember this. Blonde Shep was winning by far; it was obvious that she was going to win and nothing could have changed that.People were furious, it was god damn shameful. This forum became a zoo during that vote.
The blonde was winning by far because she had a hairstyle and general facial structure that the majority of people liked. She accrued votes even from people who would have preferred other hair colours, because the overall look of the character was more important. During the voting, there were a conspicuous number of comments stating as such. I know I voted for her but stated that I'd prefer a redhead, just like the original default femshep.
The poll was far from scientific, which was the main problem.
Yup. I also voted for the blonde femshep because I like her hairstyle the best, even though I wanted a redhead. I also made a comment saying so.
I have nothing against blonde femsheps but I did take issue with (unnecessarily) changing the default look.

Garrus' voice actor is also not a Turian.
I was shocked to find that tidbit out.

It’s funny to me that so many people were outraged that blondes were insulted. Women characters are picked apart daily on this forum for one reason or another. Without mentioning names, I have seen some posters who were completely “so mad because blondes were insulted!” pick apart other female characters because their boobs looked too big, which means they’re over sexualized and stripperish. “I can’t her serious when her boobs are that big!” or that Ashley looks like a hooker/stripper, etc. Ah, stereotypes are fun…except when you don’t like them.

After a vote for the new default appearance of FemShep, there was a vote for her hair color, and people voted for red hair.
And she was a red hair in the first two games anyway, so why not the third?

I'm not seeing how it's particularly hypocritical to rail against insulting blondes and sh*tty design at the same time. Just the argument that someone saying that if you’re more than a B-Cup you can’t be taken seriously as a soldier, yet the rage is set if someone says you can’t be taken seriously as a soldier if you’re blond. Different arguments, same hypocrisy.

Yeah, I think you missed the point. They're different arguments. Sure there may have been people like that, but the vast majority of people who "found it hard to take X seriously" found it so because the redesigns were purely for "sex appeal;" it was an issue of sexualisation, not stereotypes. It's not tiggo bitties, but the retroactive addition of tiggo bitties and/or catsuits - especially if it ran contrary to what had been seen of the character thus far. Everyone in ME is a fighter. If you go out in a catsuit and high heels, hair and ****** akimbo, you deserve to die. The problem people had was the "sex appeal over pragmatism" approach BioWare has been taking with its female (and even non-gendered) characters. It's hard to take a character seriously if it seems like the devs don't anymore.KBomb wrote...

So.. After BioWare noticed that a lot of people voted on the blonde solely for the style, they decided to let people vote for the hair color as well. Guess what happened.. Exactly. Blonde came in last, red first, black second...

There were different femsheps, and only one had a long hair style, and that was the blonde one. She won, and a lot of people took pride because they were blonde themselves and nonsense like that. I said from the beginning, that the only reason the blonde was ahead and eventually won, was because she was the only one that had that hair style, and that if there was another shepard with that same hair style but with a different hair color, that it would've won instead of the blonde. I even said blonde would probably come in last, with red first, and black second. I got trolled and flamed to death..

Women don't make good front line combat soldiers, while blonds make excellent soldiers. Women are only in these roles in video games due to 1: gamer fantasy 2: They'd be invisible in the game otherwise

Neither of those should have ever taken place, even more so the second one. "Crowd-sourcing" something like this was just a stupid idea. Bioware should've just said "Here is your canon Femshep. Deal with it". Video game development is not a democracy, people.

Aren't the issues that make front line soldiering problematic for women today irrelevant with the technology in ME?
