Women don't make good frontline combat soldiers

Eh. I've never lived in/heard of a first world country that actually allowed its women to serve on the front lines, so who knows, really.

Yeah, I think you missed the point. They're different arguments. Sure there may have been people like that, but the vast majority of people who "found it hard to take X seriously" found it so because the redesigns were purely for "sex appeal;" it was an issue of sexualisation, not stereotypes. It's not tiggo bitties, but the retroactive addition of tiggo bitties and/or catsuits - especially if it ran contrary to what had been seen of the character thus far. Everyone in ME is a fighter. If you go out in a catsuit and high heels, hair and ****** akimbo, you deserve to die. The problem people had was the "sex appeal over pragmatism" approach BioWare has been taking with its female (and even non-gendered) characters. It's hard to take a character seriously if it seems like the devs don't anymore.

Only if you’re of the opinion that the redesigns were poorly done. I don’t believe Ashley’s were. I know some have the opinion otherwise, and I can respect that. I don’t think she was re-vamped to the point she cannot be taken seriously anymore. Her hair being down wasn’t a huge deal to me since it closely resembles the very same hairstyle femshep can choose in CC, only slightly longer. I didn’t think her breasts looked that different. Maybe a bit higher, which isn’t a bad thing. Having them slightly larger isn’t horrible either. I can understand the arguments over her suit, but I didn’t see that as a sex suit either and to call it that is silly. Also, her heels are the same height as Tela Vasir’s, which some people said Ashley’s gear should resemble.

So, no. I didn’t miss any points . I also was not talking about “the vast majority”, but of a few I seen post silly things about Ashley. Complaining about the redesign is one thing, but saying she is a stripper now because she is showing some skin and wears longer hair is another. My original point was and is: Female characters are routinely bashed on this site for one silly reason or another, and some of the blondinites participate in some of that bashing. I find it amusing.

I doubt it’s that since the redhead/green eyes won the vote on the first poll that was on Twitter. Also, seems like if the blond won on the hair color alone, all those same people would have voted for her again and she would have at least come in second. Did she even come in third? She lost kind of badly IIRC.

Kind of. There were two polls, the first for the overall appearance of femshep, and the second for hair color.

I didn't even know there was a second vote. Way to go BW.

Not that I care. Red is fine with me.

People whinging about the whingers who whinged are as bad as the people whinging in the first place.

The people now whinging about the whingers are just as bad as the both of you.

See what you made me go and do now? HUH!??!

There was a vote on looks, there was a vote on hair colour.

The vast, massive majority voted on a red head.

The original default femsheps in ME1 and ME2 were both red heads.

No matter how it got to where it is - its probably the right place to be in - in this case - the fans and the original game view won out - and all is probably where it should be.

What I find funny was that Blonde won with quite a few votes and then all of a sudden everyone was hating on blonde. Don't know why those people didn't vote in the first place >.<

Nope. What's true is,

People voted on hairstyles.
BW realized this, and did a hair color poll after the style poll.

I got a good chuckle at how hypocritical the whole situation was. People we're ****ing that blonde shepard was too much of a typical barbie doll appearance for a "tough" character like shepard, which thus promoted sexism. But such claims we're sexist to begin with by asserting the idea that blonde women truly adhered to all the dumb blonde stereotypes, that it was somehow impossible for a strong woman like shepard to be blonde, and that by simply giving shepard blonde hair you took away all of her actual personality traits and accomplishments and made her a bimbo. Wut? The whole issue was a joke.

I think the biggest issue with the 1st 'vote' was it was all over the place. Each hair color (for the most part) had a completely different hair style. And when it came down to it, people wanted long hair, so voted on long hair.

Second vote was that with all the other hair colors, and that came out red. Seems pretty simple, plus I remember them mentioning a second vote a day after the whole thing. All that ****ing and complaining was after they had already announced a second vote.

Yep. Not very fair to have only one long hair option. I didn't vote, I'm not on Facebook, but if I had it would have been the blonde simply for her hair, and a brunette for the second poll.

I actually was really wrapped up in the debate and at one point even got so obsessed to prove my point, I stopped whatever game I was modding at the time and did some calculations to show how the first poll results could have unfairly translated into the way second poll.  It was attempt to disprove how many people were saying "Well most people clearly wanted a different hair colour who voted blonde" and show why there really shouldn't have been a second poll, because it would be statistically unfair to anyone who voted in poll 1 (for winning or losing choices).  Especially since the second poll was never announced or hinted at before hand.  So based off the assumptions I was arguing, I started to move votes around in a really basic fashion that actually didn't help my argument, just to see if I could prove myself wrong.

Not only did my fake poll 2 results come within 1% more or less of the real results/percentages, but it actually showed that it was quite possible the "Femshep 5 votes for only hairstyle" people could have been the minority of the Femshep 5 vote in poll 1.  I think I still have the post saved somewhere around here because it was a lot of number crunching and fairly long winded (showing all my calculations in the process).

...Just to prove a point about a poll pertaining to...hair colour...

Kind of sad really.

Image IPB

It was obvious the second poll was done because a number of people voiced their opinion that they wanted femshep 5 w/ a different hair colour, and/or because of all the blonde backlash.  Either way, it was obvious it wasn't really planned out and the criticisms after the first and second poll caught Bioware off guard.  If the second poll was planned they would have announced it when they accounced the first one.  Instead they first marketed the initial poll as simply "Choose the next default Femshep."

The blonde/red hair thing will probably be useless debate anyways.  Someone will find a way to mod textures like they did in ME1 and ME2.  Then we will get default Blonde, Dirty Blonde, Black, Blue, Orange, Green and Prismatic haired Femshep anyways.

What happened-

Bioware announced that the Collector's Edition of Mass Effect 3 would have DudeShep on the front of a cover and FemShep on the back. Also, FemShep would be used in marketing, such as a trailer(still upcoming).

They opened up a poll with 6 options, asking us to choose which of the 6 FemSheps we would prefer as the FemShep used in marketing and on the cover.

Most votes(by far) were for a FemShep with blonde hair and blue eyes, but a lot of people rather than voting and being done with it, voted and said, "This but with this different hair color".

After "Blondie" as she was affectionately called won, a lot of people were happy that the rare(in the ME universe) hair colored Shepard would be represented, although others screamed foul.

Some claimed that she was a "barbie" and that due to her blonde hair, this made her stupid and an "airhead". There were even reports on it on other websites by people claiming that this made FemShep look like a "California Girl with a chihuahua in a purse".

Eventually enough noise was made that Bioware decided to very suddenly open up a second poll, this one with the winning option posted but with various hair colors. At this point, it was a Red haired version of the original Blonde haired winner that took the victory, mainly due to voters wanting a FemShep similar to the default FemShep of the first two games.

More issues were called out-

The other options in the second poll we're all identical, but the Red haired version was given extra attention, with freckles and green eyes, rather than every other options lack of freckles and blue eyes. This had people thinking that Bioware was showing favoritism, as it was stated previously by several Bioware developers that they were fond of the first poll's redhead.

Others claimed that this was giving in to those that were unfairly bashing and insulting blondes as being "stupid" and "beneath the rest of us".

Many of the original poll's voters chose not to vote in the second or just weren't aware that a new one was started, so some claimed that had everyone known a second poll was made, "Blondie" would've won yet again.

Still, in the end of the day, we ended up with a Red haired, green eyed, freckled FemShep-

A unique option who was never an option in the first place. It pleased many a fan, and pissed off many another fan.

Its what we've got though, so there's no point in bringing it up further.
