By now many know not a lot of the ME2 squadmates will be teammates in ME3. I remember Bioware saying we will be able to continue all our romance plots in ME3.

Anybody have an idea how that would work if they're not on our squad?

Yes; it's ridiculous to think otherwise.

Whether or not they will be continued satisfactorily is a whole other problem.

I'm just trying to think how they can satisfactorily be concluded when they're not even on your squad.

1) Please post this in the romance forums, not the general forums
2) Oh look, yet another person who wants to turn ME into a dating sim <_<

Even if not on the Squad, they are still part of the team.  Most will be helpful in other ways (Wrex & Grunt uniting the Krogan into an army, for example) that would be dificult to do on the Normandy.

As for fulfilling the Romance, Loyalty will be rewarded if thru all 3 games.

This is where some of the dissension over the current squad make-up comes from.  I am wary over it myself; given the track record of cameo characters.

Really? This isn't about a specific character, this is about the relationships in ME in general. Romances take up like 2% of the whole game....turn it into a dating sim?

They have their own cameos or arcs in the game where you meet up for a mission. Its not as much time spent with say an ME1 romance but it is there, and in some cases just as sweet if not sweeter.

Although if for some reason you paired up with Jacob..well I pity you.

Again, it's called "Mass Effect 3 Character and Romance Discussion" forum. This topic belongs there. EDIT: And it appears it's now been moved there.

And only 2%? For a feature that supposedly only takes up 2% of the game, it gets an awfully disproportionate amount of focus.  If you've ever browsed that section of the forums, you might think ME consists almost entirely of romance. How else can you explain romance threads getting hundreds of pages (most from a small number of hardcore fans)?

Sorry, went off on a tangent there for a bit. It's just that I hate the romances, and even more, I hate how these forums have been hijacked by a small number of creepy romance-obsessed fanboys (and fangirls!) who seem to care about these games only to get into the pants of their favorite character. It really gives BSN, and ME fans in general, a bad name.

A lot of ME fans are really into the role-playing aspect of the game, and romance is a pretty significant part of making the story your own. I think people can be forgiven for caring more about their own story than whatever super cool new shooting mechanics the devs might have added. There isn't much they can do to the gameplay that hasn't been done before, although I'm still looking forward to the apparently smoother, more dynamic controls and the online multiplayer. It's still far from a "dating sim."

Also, a romance can't reach a satisfactory conclusion if your LI dies. Especially if everyone else gets to ride off into the sunset with theirs.

These cameo/missions better be pretty damn long, and we better have communications with them while our ME2 LI's are away... and not just emails. Some voicemails or video communications would be awesome!

I don't consider a forced, optional, and wholly plot-irrelevant romance to be a "significant part of making the story your own." At best it's just a diversion, and a meaningless and badly-done one at that. "Romance" in ME games is about as well done as "romance" in Twilight. There, I said it.

I think people can be forgiven for caring more about their own story than whatever super cool new shooting mechanics the devs might have added.

If "caring more" results in Bioware throwing out canon and consistency in order to pander to them, neglecting other features of the game, and perpetuating negative stereotypes about ME fans, then sorry, but that's not something I can forgive very easily. <_< We've seen many times before how a vocal minority here can get their way, like that ridiculous femshep "beauty contest".

It's still far from a "dating sim."

If I ever feel like the game is asking me "Why aren't you romancing anyone?", then to me, it's a dating sim. If Shepherd appears to suddenly be enthralled while talking to squadmate, without even picking any romance dialogue, or if the game refuses to reveal important details unless I go the romance path with someone, then that means the game is pushing me toward romance and hence is a "dating sim".

No they won't. BioWare has been trolling you since 2007.

If you don't like the romances, then don't romance anyone. Yes, it is that simple. I'll never understand why people have to complain about purely optional aspects in a game. That's like me complaining that I don't like pistols (hypothetically).

As of the leak, that's not true in all interpretations.

Yes, just because the ME2 squadmates aren't becoming a squadmate in ME3, does not mean their relationship and development with or w/o Shepard will not continue. I'm quite happy with Jack's development and what she's up to (then again, no one has played the game yet and the leak was incomplete) and she isn't on the squad. Permanence doesn't necessarily = good development.

If you had a romance with any of the ME2 females, then you're good. If you had a romance with the ME2 males minus Garrus, then you're screwed.
