If you don't like the romances, then don't romance anyone. Yes, it is that simple. I'll never understand why people have to complain about purely optional aspects in a game. That's like me complaining that I don't like pistols (hypothetically).

If that "optional aspect" receives disproportionate focus from Bioware at the expense of other aspects and results in breaking canon or consistency, and results in ME being perceived as a "Space Waifu Simulator" and its fans as pathetic dorks, and is one that I personally don't think is well-done to begin with, then yes, I will complain about it.

It's the exact same thing we've seen with the whole "shooter vs. RPG"  or "multiplayer vs. no multiplayer" debates. Players complain Bioware is pandering too much to a given demographic at the expense of the rest of their fans, or will end up attracting the "wrong" fans. In the end, nothing in the game is "optional" because every optional feature needs time and resources devoted to it which could've gone toward another feature. People just choose whatever feature they hate the most and make their complaints based on that. For me, my "most hated feature" is the romances.

I don't consider a forced, optional, and wholly plot-irrelevant romance to be a "significant part of making the story your own." At best it's just a diversion, and a meaningless and badly-done one at that. "Romance" in ME games is about as well done as "romance" in Twilight. There, I said it.

Then maybe they should work on them longer so they'll be better. Furthermore, 90% of ME2 is essentially "plot irrelevant" considering the game focuses more on characters and their stories than the Reaper threat.

If "caring more" results in Bioware throwing out canon and consistency in order to pander to them, neglecting other features of the game, and perpetuating negative stereotypes about ME fans, then sorry, but that's not something I can forgive very easily. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/angry.png[/smilie] We've seen many times before how a vocal minority here can get their way, like that ridiculous femshep "beauty contest".

If Bioware has thrown out canon or neglected other features for romances, I haven't noticed it. Furthermore, considering how many people enjoy the series, I don't think there are any "negative stereotypes about ME fans," and even if there were, I wouldn't care, because the fact that I play ME is my business.

None of the romances receive a "disproportionate amount of focus". nor do they break lore and consistency. The only one calling ME a space waifu simulator is you.

You don't like it? That's perfectly fine, but at least stick to facts instead of baseless, pointless arguments.

if you don't like the romances then don't use them, because romances are optional

I'm just wondering: Can i flirt with Garrus but end the relationship and still be loyal to kaiden in the end of mass effect 2? Will the cut scene of Shepard holding Kaiden's picture appear after the suicide mission?

Although if for some reason you paired up with Jacob..well I pity you.

The rumors about the Romance conclusion with Jacob are untrue. If you look at the dialogue, it's pretty easy to tell that Bioware didn't do what a lot of ppl say they did.

If you had a romance with any of the ME2 females, then you're good. If you had a romance with the ME2 males minus Garrus, then you're screwed.

Without going into spoilerrific detail, how exactly?

You are screwed, it's truePosted Image.

But seriously, I've read the spoilers, and there's nothing to be all that worried about. Thane still has health hisues, but we knew that goin in. And the Jacob rumors have been taken WAY out of context and without a proper analysis of the dialogue given(which isn't much). You aren't(metaphorically) screwed if you go with Jacob or Thane. Everything I've seen in the spoilers indicates that Bioware does justice to their characters.
