By the way, what is an "old school fan" for the ME series?

I think it means a very young player who grew up on the series.

It's easier than that. Anyone who started with ME1 and is actually a fan.

Non "old school fans" would be the 2-3 millions of newcomers that Bioware/EA seems to be expecting and those that "find the game entertaining" or "a game about blowing **** with sex in space".

I played ME1 on release and I'm very happy with the direction they are going with ME3. It's really annoying when one person thinks they speak for an entire group.

Lol? 2007 is old school?

Only on IGN.

And BSN.

"Old" is relative. I think the op means fans of the oringinal game--before all of the changes in ME2.

Oh. Heh. Then I guess that XBOX players, who were the first to play the game before it was ported to PC, are the real old school ones, while the PC are the "new crowd".

Hohoho. Should get some people's e-peen down by a few inches.

Does it still include players who thought that the changes made for ME2 were big improvements?

Yes. It does not mean they are opposed to the newer entries. Old school may include both fans of ME1 who do not embrace the changes as well as fans of ME1 who have simply, and gladly, followed the games since ME1.

Er, I think the op is referring specifically to the players who preferred ME1 gameplay to ME2 gameplay. It's all in the context.

Are you trying to provoke a flame war? Relax, man. The point is, the op isn't using "old school" the way you're inferring.

Inclusion of thermal clips is not an issue for me. Simplified conversation trees/equipment/armor elements are. ME2 had a very simple story: recruit a new team, and take on one boss battle at end. Not a dynamic middle entry, IMO. ME3 has me scared ****less in the sense I am afraid the action is fully replacing RPG and don;'t get me started on MP. Not needed, and not wanted by this fan. Dont want a short campaign as a result of MP

I hope now that they have perfected combat and have seen the outcrys in regard to their experiment in ME2 with simplifying the RPG elements, they will bring back the RPG in the game. Hopefully they will, and judging from the various articles that state they are, I think they will. Plus, Bioware is a good company, and a good company listens to it's fans. The only letdown I've ever felt from Bioware is with DA2, and I think they learned from that. Cmon Bioware this is the biggest buildup I've ever felt for a game, don't let us down.

Why? Because you don't agree with this person? Would you say something if this individual had an opinion similar to yours?

It is my definition of it mister

Just like when people say what they define RPG as.

You surely didn't think I was providing an official Mass Effect Wiki definition on "Old School"?

Are you seriously asking why I have a problem with someone ascribing views I disagree with to a group that I belong to?

I have to agree with Atakuma here. I played ME1 on xbox soon after release and loved it. I also loved ME2, and now play both on PC. To this day I enjoy both games in different ways, and do not feel like I'm taking a step back when I play ME1. It's just different. I have never been an active forum member until the last few days, but I have enjoyed the games as long as anyone, and I can see being a bit annoyed about someone claiming to represent everyone's POV when the biggest thing I've learned over my last few days here is that the POVs around here are fickle and all over the board. No one can say that "all the real fans feel THIS way!"

@Atakuma and mghjr6

Somehow I wouldn't be surprised when someone says that the real fans like ME no matter what or something similar and you'd say something like 'this man speaks truth' or other hypocrite crap.

OP shouldn't speak on behalf of any group that's diverse and with many perspectives, but like I said, I doubt I'd hear you of you actually agreed with him.

I was talking in general, not necessarily about ME. But it is partly true compared to 'old school' games. The direction games are headed seems to be to rather enable quick and easy success and reward instead of challenge.

Psh. We can talk about quick and easy success when GameSharks become popular again.

You are not old skool enough... I'm talking Game Genie here.  =]

That's right.  With it Shepard can jump higher, live forever, and choose which level to start on!

I think anyone who is worried, loved and played mass effect 1, then played me2. Enough said.

The definition of "old school" on BSN is quite simple: A self entitled little **** who thinks that they are better than people who play Gears of War, CoD and that Mass Effect 1 is an intellectually deep and intelligent game. What a bunch of ****s.

In that case I am not old school. I think ME2 is better than ME1. But never played GoW or CoD tbh.

I'm mostly worried about the whole even if you didn't do a certain decision its changed to fit it as though you had thing.

Like Wrex for example. Killed him in ME1, no biggie 'cause his brother is doing the exact same thing. All they did was swap characters. In the end the decision made no difference.

As long as the ME team paid attention to what the DA team did with DA2 and doesn't repeat those mistakes that'll be a huge relief for me. I would hate for them to go back to recycled environments like in ME1, for example.

Mass Effect doesn't deserve any camparisons with that filth. None of the main missions were repetitive, and even most of the interiors during the N7 assignments and space stations had all of their crates and other props placed by hand even if the the general map layout was the same. And in many cases it actually makes sense to see some similar layouts, I mean what do you expect from cerberus research stations and alliance bunkers? These are professional organizations, and you should expect them to have cookie cutter templates like that... it's only realistic.

No, guess again dumb ****.

I also have never played Gears, Halo, I occasional play CoD 4 and everything past CoD 4 is not up to my standards.
