OK SO I JUST READ THE SCRIPT AND WOW, IT'S ALL JUST FANSERVICE. ME3 IZ GONNA SUCK.

Bioware just can't win no matter what.

More like no developer can win. I don't think there's a single developer forum that doesn't have a ton of complaint threads.

If you're worried about what is going to be the most incredible game of 2012, that's a "you" problem.

RolandX9 wrote... On the other hand, there have been some serious signs of folks in Edmonton getting the concerns. We'll see.

Such as?
What constitutes "old school" in the Mass Effect franchise? 2007? Still kinda recent, don't you think?

The wonders of the internet.  Would even 10% of the people here complain if the only option was to write a letter?

So is 2000, when BG2 came out.  Or even the 90s, when you consider that RPG popularity peaked in the early-to-mid 80s. Old school is largely a ambiguous term for a genre that has gone through as many waves as this one has.

Most people probably would not. There would be a few though that would probably complain. And since they'd have to take the time to write a letter, pay for stamp and shipping, the complainer would most likely take the time to write a well-informed letter listing their thoughts and concerns. And since some post offices would require a return address, the complainer would not want to come off looking like a tool since BioWare would know who wrote it and where it came from (barring the use of a phony address). And perhaps someone at BioWare could possibly take the time to write back. The internet has a sense of being in a rush to get things done and tends to come off as bitter, angry and not well thought out. Aiming for that one-liner that people put in their signatures or that wall of attempted irrefutable text tends to trump well thought out statements.

Oh yeah, I pre-ordered the collector's edition months ago and so long as they don't turn Mass Effect into a bloody MMO I'll pre-order the next one too.

But; that doesn't mean I can't be paranoid and complain.

Perhaps I misspoke. I'll restate that people who claim they are leaving and not coming back will be back. 9 out of 10 times.

Epic games, the creators of games such as Gears of War a series that BSN looks down upon w/ great distatse because apparenly if you enjoy GoW you are the lowest common demoniator.  Those forums were totally 99% positive before GoW3 came out, once the game came out it got a little more negative but go on those forums now and you'll see nothing but people actually discussing the game, not a whole lot of negativity.  The only fanbase that ****es more than BSN is the Final Fantasy fanbase and not by much.

Are you kidding? First I'm a gears and UT fan since ''04, and mapped like crazy for the sequels from ut2k4 - ut3. (I'm a huge fan of Epics games, but not their company). I happen to be a hardcore rpg fan as well. I even play shooters, have every halo game and every call of duty ever released with the exception of mw3. This debunks your opinion that everyone on the BSN hates anything that isn't an rpg.

Second, you apparently weren't around the epic forums last year because the old school gears fans were complaining day and night. Apparently epic streamlined the game heavily to accommodate people new to the series. They didn't like that, and I don't blame them. Once again the contents of your post prove false.

And lastly, please stop with this self righteous attitude of BSN this and BSN that, acting as if you're not a part of the BSN. It only makes you look to be in denial when you're pointing the finger as you participate on these forums as well.

Considering that ME3 is said to have upwards of 3,000 story variables, I think you don't need to worry.

Me2 "had 900 variables", have a look when you next get a chance at gibbed save editor, and see how many it really was. If you have read the script for me3, youll know what most of it is, choice A, choice B, A is you ate the chocolate B is you didnt, what they do with this choice is that the chocolate is still there irrevelant of what you do, maybe a little dialogue change and a bit of explanation how the chocolate is still there, which for me i dont mind as i didnt expect any different its too difficult too make so many different plot quests and arcs based on choices, but i imagine alot of people will be worried especially after BW bigging it up.

Said it before though people expect too much i never wanted them to add all this big choice stuff as i knew it wouldent work out, i just want a good story in me3 to end it all. Thats it.

I was on the Bioware forums that existed before the BSN before and after the launch of ME1.

After the launch of ME1 the most often repeated suggestion I had was "make the cover system more like Gears of War".   I was not alone in that opinion and as a result the cover system in ME2 was more like Gears of War.

There is a very vocal group on these forums who didn't like the ME2 combat system; but the vast majority of us recognize it as an improvement.   There are other complaints I have of ME2; but none of them can be blamed on Gears of War.

The addition of a reload mechanic through thermal clips was one of the greatest things added to the series. Go cry some more about how you can no longer trigger down infinitely and roflcopter your way through a room of helpless enemies.

Anyone who powers up their copy of ME3 on March 6th with anything more than a smile, an open mind and crossed fingers is an ungrateful toad. They reap what they sow, unfortunately

i consider myself as a old fan because i love the franchise through and through. now imo for someone who never plays shooters other than dead space i enjoy the thermal clips, heck i even loved the mako after i got use to it.

now ive stated before both me titles have there goods and bads

lets start with the goods shall we?

me1

better story

better threat

gameplay was great for when it came out

mass effect 2's goods are

bigger team

a fantastic gameplay system and feels smoother

the stories you learn from your crew

now onto the bad

mass effect 1.

over heating weapons... im sorry i just never liked that

repetative armors!

could of used me2's lm component to keep full squad at the end of me1.

now for me2's bad things

human colonies being abducted and collectors imo was a cool start but wasnt executed the way it could have been and didnt feel the whole threat thing at all and wanted more intel on the collectors.

now this next part im saying because i believe it does involve the final chapter wich is the import choices. i admit i read way to much into and and felt that more could have been done by interlocking the games together with that and i really hope me3 focuses on that

all in all despite some of my cons of both games i have to say its one of the best franchises i have played

This is where Bioware is going to fall short and where I suspect many people's expectations are going to crash. It apparently seems Bioware is flat out uninterested in doing divergent story lines or even missions. I'm not happy about this but it is what it is.

This open mind argument is another one of those arguments you see come up a lot these days.

If a game is in a series of games, or a follow on story in someway. The gamer has a right to expect certain things.

You don't pay a season members pass to your favourite sport club to go in with an open mind for each game, you go in expecting them to win.

Same here, you don't buy or even pre-order a game expecting a totally different experience to what you've had previously or expect radical changes, you pre-order and buy it because you expect it to follow on in some way to the previous releases.

You remain open minded about new releases, exisiting franchises have standards and expectations to measure up to.

The gamer doesn't have a right to expect the franchise to stagnate to appease them though. Numerous "oldschool" people here continually champion ME1 and chastise ME2 because of the fact it wasn't exactly the same as ME1. BioWare would of been stupid to make a game centred around those people considering the success of ME2, yet that's essentially still what part of the "oldschool" group apparently want. Every company has a right to develop their product further, else it's met with derision.

As for the choices discussion, it's somewhat naive to expect wholesale changes across 3 games, isn't all that viable. That said, that doesn't really matter, what does matter is that your character has an effect on the game world to further immersion. That doesn't need to be wholesale changes to someone else's experience, it just needs to be little things like a change in atmosphere an the like, or running into characters you've already dealt with in the past (Kirrahe for a non spoiler example). Hell, ME2 managed that on the Citadel an i'm confident BW can manage it with ME3. At the same time though, I do expect my decisions across ME3 to matter far, far more considering it's the endpoint so there are no variables to consider after it.

Leave bioware alone, I am a mass effect veteran but you don't see me complaining. They obviously did what they thought was right. So no I'm not worried, in fact I can't wait.

What if we played it while wearing a members only jacket and listening to Run DMC?
