Help with my Arcane Warrior

having some issues when choosing spells. I am concentraiting on the
fire/flame elemental path as well as shield giving abilities, but am
having major issues with mana and health. So to my question. I am
playing on hard and find myself having
to lower difficulties to beat bosses... since choosing the subclass ie.
the Regeant (however you spell it) at redcliff.
Is
the Arcane Warrior supposed to be a mix between
dextarity/constion(minor) and willpower/magic(major)? If so I am
finding my build to be a crappy version of both a warrior and mage.
I am finding even with all of my shields up... rock armor, the 2nd tier
generic mage one, as well as spell shield(when fighting mages) I have
enough mana for maybe one mind blast or fireblast/fireball. I also
noticed that adding willpower does not always give you mana
increases... I am also having issues with choosing armor since heavy
armor further decreases my available mana. Is the Arcane Warrior
supposed to be just that? A warrior with arcane abilities or a mage who
can fight hand to hand?
some thoughts-
Are the shields worth it?
Can Arcane warrior be a viable dps option with daggers.
Which dps paths should i take (I let Morrigan do debuffs/crowd control)?
Will my low mana problem be solved with blood mage subclass?
Is having both Flaming Weapons/telekinetic weapons paired with Frost Weapons worth it?
Thanks

What is awesome for a mage is also awesome for an AW so frost cone, crushing prison mass paralyse , fireballs are all spells you should consider taking. your mana problems will not be solved with BM spec ( power of blood of wardens keep dlc however will). in my opinion sword and board are is the best

Arcane Warriors can use their sustained abilities to get very high
levels of defense/armor/spell resistance (at the cost of extremely
heavy fatigue). This can be powerful, but limits what the Arcane
Warrior can do to basically being an auto-attacking machine (decent
damage, great defense).
Some people prefer more of a 'gish' build. Meaning to engage in
melee while throwing out cones of colds and the like. However, many
spells cannot be cast with a sword in your hand. If you try to do so,
your character will sheathe the sword, then cast. This delays the
casting and can cause a lot of trouble. There is a work around though.
Use only one set of weapons, and when you want to cast a spell that
requires your weapon to be sheathed then pause the game and "switch
weapons". The result is that your character essentially sheathes his
weapons instantly, removing the delay. The PC version provides two
"weapon sets" that can be swapped out easily with one button press, and
is effective for this strategy.
For those who don't want to use this mechanic (e.g., breaks
immersion, requires micro-management), you can build your Arcane
Warrior around those spells that can be cast with a sword in hand. See
the Arcane Warrior Spellcasting article for a list of spells that can be cast with a sword in hand.

Another tactic is you leave off your sustained abilities until
you are low on mana. since casting a sustained ability does not cost
you mana only requiring your max mana to be enough. This allows you to
open the fight with spells switch to melee once low. there is a small
delay while you turn on your abilities but its worth being able to
throw a fireball at a group to get in wittled down. some good sustained
abilities for the arcane warrior: rock armor, flaming/icy weapon, death
magic, miasma
