Also, for whatever it's worth, congrats for winning "Best PC Game" at the Spike VGAs!

Just wanted to pop in again and say how criminally underrated this game is. Sure, it had critical acclaim, but what does that matter? It deserved to sell well on every system, not just PC.

Yeah Im probably going to end up buying it for this reason alone.  :innocent:  Cant see myself using the new voiced squad member a whole lot tbh

I haven't been using him on more than 2-3 missions in my current playthrough so far, although my squad composition tends to be a lot more Heavy-centric than ever. I just can't bring myself to use a non-customizable soldier, even if he has some unique traits of his own.

I'm really amazed by how deep the customisation is in this game. Also the soundtrack is really awesome. Alot of familiar voices ingame and Doctor Vahlen is hawt.

You can really see that this is a 2K game and they deserve all the praise that they get from it.

I got XCOM for free (as one of the bonuses for preordering Bioshock: Infinite) a few days ago and wow, it's amazing game. The combat system is deep, fair and challenging. Love the music too.

I love XCOM and got over 70 hours in it, but do me a favour. Never ever get excited over a trailer that doesn't show anything in the game :)

But just the possibility of more XCOM is reason to get excited.

Definitely sounds like it could be a TFTD-based expansion pack. Or maybe an extension of the base game to cover the XCOM attack on Cydonia.

Same. I pre-ordered BioShock: Infinite last Tuesday and already have 15 hours in XCOM. I will not make the mistake of skipping any XCOM expansion.

Does anybody know how to fix a bug where the normal base music plays in the background of a cutscene that has its own music?

Snow is piling up in Baltimore. Perfect excuse to play XCOM for 12 straight hours.

Mmmm I wouldn't say no to some TftD-style underwater action for an expansion pack. Though I could do without the HATED ship missions.

I would love it if they passed on the aliens this time and went full on Demons From Beyond.  I know it's been done by games since Doom and Quake, but so has the aliens thing.

How good is this? I heard it has mods, turn based combat and aliens. Never played a turn based game before, I do play starcraft but I realize these games have little in common except for the fact that they are strategy games.

You heard correctly.

Depends on what you like about Starcraft. XCOM has base building and management like Starcraft(but not on a map and not real-time), science fiction/fantasy setting, a variety of aliens, and many instances of combat(but with far fewer characters in each instance).

I have no experience with the multiplayer if multiplayer is more your style of game.

Its excellent. It doesn't have too much in common with Starcraft because the focus is more upon building up your individual units more than the overall war assets. You will find yourself becoming overly attached to your individual soldiers, which can be very painful if you have Permadeath options turned on.

Visually it will probably remind you more of a turn based Mass Effect game in combat. Cover Based, Squad orientated, similar weapons. But the game has a great flow to it, so things feel like they move at a nice pace, even though you're planning out every move.

Exactly this.  I know its only a teaser and I know people have been stung a lot with recent game releases (myself on two occasions recently). As a result we are questioning products now more then ever. However XCOM was one those games that really stood out and shined above almost all other games in 2012. We cant let a few bad experiences ruin games with great potential.

For me its enough of a reason to look forward to see what comes next. B)

I'm in the same mindset, i love the game and i'd like more XCOM but it's hard for me to get excited about a teaser that doesn't show anything of the new stuff. But i suppose at a later date they might showcase a bit of what they're going to release and then i can start to get excited:wizard:

Soooooo.... anybody besides myself playing Enemy Within? I am about 3/4 through my first playthrough and it's bloody fantastic! If you had fun with Enemy Unknown there's a good chance you'll like EW - it's basically moooooore of the same (though I'd wished for even more at some points).

There's a hell of lot more variety to maps and missions (I had ONE "disarm the bomb" mission so far), more customization options for your soldiers (I'd wanted even more here ^^), new improvement options via genetic modifications and putting guys in MEC suits, new Second Wave options (I loooove the one that breaks up the traditional skill trees and just randomly attributes abilities to soldiers), new equipment (like a type of ammo that kinda bridges the gap between conventional and laser weapons) etc.

Image IPB

There's a new enemy faction as well, an organisation of shady human traitors calling themselves Exalt. They're... basically ME3 Cerberus. At least on Normal difficulty mode they aren't as threatening as I'd hoped, but facing them in greater numbers is still tough. The Exalt troops basically play by the same rules as your soldiers, but come with some further enhancements. And you can give their weapons to your soldiers - they function like the standard weapons, but look quite cool.

From what I heard there won't be any real changes to the endgame, and aside from the improved variety the game plays pretty much the same. But I guess I can live with that. The tons of new maps do wonders in making the game feel larger, and it was real nice seeing some of the old maps being used in new types of missions.

Image IPB

Urm, yeah, so, it's pretty cool. Play it if you liked XCOM EU! If you're a console gamer you get the Commander's Edition, which is a stand-alone combination of EU/EW that also comes with the two previous DLCs - perfect place to start if you haven't gotten into XCOM yet.
