You give your arc thrower to your support class? is that becuase of the upgrade to have it repair the S.H.I.V?
I feel its safer with the assualt class myself. there up on the front lines anyway.

Support class gets the highest mobility of any unit (if you take the upgrade) which, combined with high mobility armor means they can be anywhere you need them to be, whenever you need them there.

Since the Arc is only effective on damaged targets really, its probably more sensible to have your Assault guy use his action doing damage so your Support can zip in after to do cleanup. I'd rather keep my assault units assaulting and let Support handle things like repair, capturing and drone control.

Also on my team, my main Assault guy is also my Psi Guy. Which gives him enough on his plate. Though in the early game, before I got two slots on my Support person, he was my Arc user.

Playing on the 360. They've cut out a lot of stuff. Some of it works -Not having to buy clips for rifles - some of it doesn't - only being able to add one non-gun thing to your squadmates, I hate that I have to pick between a med kit and grenade. Doesn't seem like I should have too. Other than that the mechanics are all there. I though the "two actions" thing would bother me more as opposed to time units but it really doesn't. The "action camera" also isn't as annoying as I first feared.

Its worth pointing out that the only unit that really has to make a choice between the Med Kit and something else, doesn't have to make that choice in the long run. The Support unit automatically gets the ability to equip two items once they rank up a bit.

The Arc Thrower gets more functionality than an omni tool after much research, which makes it a stellar choice for your Support member's second slot.

The other classes get stuck with one, but some can learn abilities that get more use out of that slot. For example, the Heavy being able to carry more grenades.

In ther last couple of mission I've unlocked some more of those high end "powers". Frankly, once I got past a very early level grandes sort of stink anyways so my interest in them when I stopped when I also stopped fighting greys and thin men.

Early on, I've kept in on assault for the dodge the first opportunity attack ability. I can close on the target, have it miss and then (hopefully) stun the SoB.

I'm waiting to see if they have the mighty Thermal Shok Bomb Launcher to make my capturing live things efforts easier or if up close and personal is going to be the way to go.

Almost 60k simultaneous XCOM players on Steam right now. That's several times more people playing XCOM than Dishonored. I'm kind of surprised, but glad to see a well-made tactical game getting good sales and good reviews.

Yeah I have debated whether or not to use the arc on assault or on the faster support as well. Tough choice IMO.

My support has medkits which are very, very handy (and later on you get another inventory slot with support, so I also put a SCOPE on him). My support class is very much a frontline fighter though. Gave him a plasma rifle and with double overwatch he can do some intense damage. I like setting him on overwatch, and then using flush to push the AI out and watching my support guy do 15-20 damage to that target.

Ideally I would have preferred a lot of different underlays, a lot of different weapon mods, and a lot of different "general items" and then have to make those difficult choices there. But at that point it just becomes me saying "I would have loved more content!" haha.

XCom games should have at least 50 hours of content! LOL

LOL.  I have already put in 26 hours.

The replayability of games like these is usually pretty staggering haha.

Support are so darn useful, and surprisingly effective in combat. So I usually keep two on the team at all time. One specced for medical+high mobility with an Arc, the other set up more for Overwatch/Supression/Smoke with a Scope.

I can't decide which I like more.

Though my current favorite unit is the Heavy I based off the Tiger Mom I saw on Supernatural a few days ago. A badass overprotective scary mom. She's focused on surpression and browbeating aliens with her Psi powers. You will do exactly what she says.

I wish the psi powers were more expansive and showed up earlier in the game. I'm sure by my fourth play through I'll manage a squad composed completely of biotics. I mean psi troopers. >.>
I mind controlled a muton and had him walk up to his buddy and hand him a grenade for his birthday. It was a touching moment made special by copious fountains of gore.

I'm an XCOM fany, but to be fair, Dishonored also has a show stopper bug on an early mission that kills the game for most if not all PC users.

Only one thing that kinda irks me is the lack of voice variety.

A badass female Scottish veteran with a huge flag on her back speaks like an American, and so does the rest of the squad, no matter if they are from the UK, Russia of Argentine.

The value of the Sniper class appears to be about 100% wrapped up in the "shoot what other see" so far. I do like them with gunslinger and a plasma pistol as well. My sniper does a nice job helping me clear ships and buildings with that.

It's just a shame that he didn't have once last grenade, to spare the poor rookie girl From dying of the single most unsettling and horrible death I have ever seen.

I'm going to have nightmares about that I think...

Death by Chryssalid?

It's a bit more complicated then that.

You see, I knew the end was coming and so did she, so she hunkered down and started crying as the zombies of two of her fellow rookies shambled out of the abyss to finish her. But they didn't, not at first. They flanked her on the left and the front, but didn't attack, and I KNOW one of them could have. Then. a Muton walked up and did the same thing on the right, surrounding her and boxing her in.

Preventing Escape.

She fired at the Muton, damaging but not killing it, in what was her final turn, and then it all became clear: One of the zombies hatched into a Chrysalid and finished the job.

The Aliens, Instead Of Just Finishing Off My Last Soldier Which They Could Have Done At Any Time, Instead Opted To Trap Her And Impregnate Her With An Egg.

That is some of the scariest **** I've ever seen; That this wasn't just a fluke. it was their TACTICS.

I've fought those things dozens of times and never knew they did that. But tend to shoot scary bug things first over all other targets.

I just got this. Huge fan of the original so I am hoping this isn't too console-ey and watered down.

Jagged Alliance 2 is in the same genre I would say, and the recent sequel just made a mockery of it. Such a waste. But by all accounts the new XCOM isn't a joke game.

They've done it to me twice thus far, the second time not being as dramatic.

Any way, I'm about to finish my first game, which is actually my second game, and then it's time for playthrough number 3.

Goddamn, I know you should only review something after the "Honeymoon" period wears off, but this game is incredible and easily my GOTY.

EDIT: Also, anyone who uses the phrases "Console-y", "Consolified", or anything that implies PC Elitism should be blocked and completely ignored. And I'm a PC Gamer FYI, stupidity is just a blight that should be stamped out.

Actually, I am not a PC elitist. I even own two consoles. I simply meant that it might have console-friendly controls that didn't work so well on PC. I was also worried that it might be watered down since this could be a way to attract a wider audience (more action, less strategy).

Lets keep this on the topic of "OMGBBQ XCOM R0X0RS OUR B0X0RS" :P

They did action it up somewhat, in that people move more appropriately and you get the kill shots (which don't grow old IMO), but I think there's still copious amounts of tactical action.

Sounds good. I am about to boot it up now and see if it does indeed "R0X0R MY B0X0RS". Actually, was there supposed to be a Z in there somewhere? Feels like it's missing a Z :)

HAHA fair point.

Note that the mechanics around LOS can be a little confusing at first, but once you figure it out (i.e. you can always see over "half cover" and you will always peek around the corner of "full cover") your ability to make better tactical choices will greatly improve I find.

Sorry Termo, my bad. I just see and hear a LOT of that stuff when it comes to this game, and that's how I read the post. Irks me after a while.

Anyway OT, before you go guns blazing into the final mission, here are some tips;

Leave the Archangel Armor at home, put Mind Shields on your frontline heavies and Assaults, and have at least 1 squad sight sniper to stay out of sight and hammer people from across the room.

That is sound reasoing..Truth be told I have not had the chance to use to many support guys at all. I had three who were memborable, though two out of them died pretty quickly. actually come to think of it I have only had maybe 4 or 5 support guys total. none of them lasted long.

Has anyone succesfully captured an ethenrel? I tired to capture the second one I encountered, He dropped a psi storm and then a few explosions later I had four KIA and two vets gravely injured...after that I changed my approach to kill on sight.
