Im planning on DOA for christmas but im having trouble deciding wether to get it for the PC or PS3.
I have heard that the PC version is superior but I have only 2GB ram on Vista and I saw you needed 4GB to play on max settings which Im hoping to do.

My specs are :

Windows Vista 32bit OS
Intel Core 2 Qaud CPU Q6600 2.40GHz
2GB ram
ATI Radeon HD 4800 1GB

So will I be able to play with max settings and little to no lag?
No harm if I cant since I can just get it for the PS3

Thx in advance =]

It will run the game, but you will zone SLOW.. the game itself will use 2GB of ram and Vista itself will take 512MB so you will be grinding your page file... a LOT

I think i remember Vista using a gig all by itself. Doesn't leave you much room for other things

A 4GB flash drive with readyboost will add a LOT to your file cache and help you out. It won't give you more system ram, but can keep game files pre cached on it to reduce the lag. With 2GB you may also have lag elsewhere.

IMO I dont recommend this game for anyone who doesn't have AT LEAST 3GB or more of physical memory.

My laptop has 4GB and on a 32bit and only can use 3GB and I have to exit the game every 1-2 hrs because it gets too laggy. I'm going to replace the OS soon with Win 7x64 so I can use my FULL 4gb and that will end the lag issues on my laptop

You could toss in 1 more gig of ram. the 32 bit will show the 2.99 gigs of ram and that would be quite helpful with the pagefile issue. Plus ram is quite cheap these days. I used to run a 2 x 512 meg and then 2 x 1 gig sticks before i upgraded to the full 4 and switched to 64 bit.

Only problem I see is your AMD. I've heard the game has massive issues with some Phenom CPUs and that you have to patch it. And it's not a game patch, it's a windows patch. Try searching the forums. I'm Nvidia/Intel biased. So I can't help you much other than try to point you in a direction that may help you :)

Thanks for the fast replies!

I think I will just go for the console version,it might not be as good but at least ill be able to play the game without too much issues. Also I have spent a lot in the last month on modern warfare 2 and AC2 so I dont have the cash for more ram right now, unless I get it over DAO which would be pointless

i run 2 gis of ram with vista the game runs smooth as silk and about 10-15 second load times. but my cpu is a little beefier than yours so that may be why.

There's issues with both consoles as well

PS3 better graphics and over all effects vs xbox because of the blue ray drive being able to hold more/better textures, plus the ps3 has a faster cpu and gpu. HOWEVER, BW over did it on the ps3. By making it look so nice, it's laggy as hell. The textures take too long to load from teh blue ray drive (if they allowed install to HD that would fix that one issue), but also the graphics are too complex for the PS3s GPU and the game can get VERY laggy

Xbox360.... runs ALMOST lag free, but has noticable lower quality graphics

pick your poison.. both also have quest bugs and DLC bugs but not as bad as the PC.

I still prefer the PC as you will have access to ALL the user community mods. Not sure if they will be available for consoles

Thanks for the heads up Tallbear

Think ill consider getting the PC version again

Can you tell me if my specs would be able to run the game with less lag than the ps3?

Ya you would be less laggy than the ps3. I've seen a friend run the ps3.. the load times are TERRIBLE as well as the video lag

Think ill get it for the PC than

Even if im getting a bit of lag on max settings I can always just turn down the shadows which seems to be the main lag problem I get in all games

The PC version is the way to go. However, be warned that random people with random setups have issue with the game. Supposed memory leaks and such, these issues do not affect everyone however.

Memory wise, assuming you are running DDR2, it is seriously cheap these days, so you may want to look into picking up another couple of gigs. You have a much better time in DA:O or other games if you do.

I'm curious what kind of tricks are you having to pull.

I'm running a 64 bit version of 7 with the game installed from my Steam account and the only thing I experience is a minor memory leak. ( Yes, that's right.  Performace degradation over long spans of time with increasing memory usage is indicative of a memory leak and not an inherent problem with my build given that I don't see this with other applications/games.  Restarting DA:O every four or five hours means no performance degradation for me and no issues with cutscene playback. )

I liked Vista but it was a resource hog.  7 reigns things in nicely.

My Build:
AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb
ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe Motherboard
8 GB G.SKILL Memory
HIS Radeon 4870 w/ 1GB

Update to my specs  :

Forgot to say my card was an ATI radeon HD 4870 1GB not a 4800

Hope this might make a difference

Its not laggy because of your RAM. You are probably seeing the loading issues many people are. I have 2GB, and it plays fine for the most part. I just need to shut down any running apps, or it can get a bit wonky, I have also never seen DA use 2GB of RAM, if it is, its because you have more ram. If you only have two gigs it won't use that much, ive never even seen the process get to 1GB.
