So you're on your 50th playthrough, you hit a familiar quest, and jadedly tread the well-worn paths. Why yes I happen to have the priestess of Talos's amulet right here. You want some crossbow bolts, here you go.

However, some quests that I could metagame just don't register. I just did the trademeet stolen skin quest, and it gets me every time. Man, if I'd memorised restoration, I could save myself about 1000 gold. For that matter, if I'd bought a scroll, I wouldn't have to walk across this map twice. Which quests consistently catch you unprepared?

Some of you I know take great pleasure in not metagaming at all, so your alternate question is, which quests (if any) do you find so tedious that you occasionally break your own rule and just happen to have the required item on you?

The umber hills; Minister Lloyd & Madulf quest interaction must be completed before talking to Mazzy.

I'm a perfectionist. I memorize a Detect Evil as soon as I reach SoA, so that I don't forget about it 5 hours later when I actually do the paladin quests.
What gets me on a regular basis is the combination-riddles (Amaunator temple ritual questions, Watchers Keep Ritual, sometimes even Suldanesselar, though that seems to be 4-1-2-2 or something like that).

My metagame terror is traps. I know they're there and most of the time I know what kind of damage they inflict. But I always seem to get jumpy and kill my character over them. I'm getting better at it though. Also, dialogue misclicks in general. I'm not thinking and just click through and choose the wrong dialogue...whoops.

Fuller's crossbow bolts in Candlekeep. I forget them every time. Literally. No idea why. For some reason it just doesn't register.

Skindancer restoration often gets me. Managed it this time with Aerie.

I never notice this, cavaliers have umpteen detect evils.

Grond0 should be able to vouch I did exactly this in our multiplayer run. I managed the Durlags Tower statue riddles but Amaunator and WK were painful.

Others.
Impatience moving a competent thief, hitting traps before detecting them. Used to do this a lot in BG1 in thieves maze and Durlags Tower, better now but don't venture under Gullykin for this reason.

Inventory shuffling resulting in not being able to enter Watchers Keep and taking ages to check many places for the "key". I think I even stored it inside the keep once or twice - epic fail?

BG1 fails that I've just about ironed out now. Forgetting strength and mirrored eyes potions before returning to Candlekeep, making 2 tomes inaccessible and basilisks a real problem. Forgetting the golden pantaloons. Forgetting bolts for Fuller. Forgetting what items I need to deal with Semaj, Angelo and Sarevok so having to crawl through the thieves maze again. Forgetting a shield when travelling to werewolf island. Sneaking past Tarnesh then forgetting to sneak out again.

BG2 fails that I'm still making. I nearly always miss at least one pillar key in the prologue. Forgetting amount of shaman hold spells faced in the early game. Forgetting fire protection against Firkraag. Forgetting to switch to the improved mace of disruption when fighting vampires.

That's a long list of fails  :crying:

You make it sound like only paladins can get the paladin quests. ;)

Fortunately, there's always the internet...

Pre-Bag of Holding I keep all my stuff in the Adventurer's Mart. Once I have the BoH, well...

Oh and yes, in BG1 there are still several traps the positions of which I can't remember perfectly yet.
I'm more careful in these areas though (but I still trigger them from time to time:pinched:).

I walk Jaheira into Baron Ployer a lot when I'm doing the quest to get Nalia out of jail and have to talk to the captain in the bar.

My druid is gimped again /facepalm.

The puzzle of torches in WK, I'm colourblind and can't tell the difference between the purple and blue ones, I could write it down somewhere but never got around to it.

The Chrom Demon on level 2 of Watchers Keep - I know I should keep it busy with Summons and just arrow, bolt, etc. it to death, but sooner or later I melee and prolong the agony

I doubt I've cast detect evil since my first playthrough of BG1 in 2001. Although I have done the paladin quest once using multi-strongholds, so if that requires detect evil then I have. I tried an undead hunter PC once, but he was either really dim not to notice all the stealing Nalia was doing, or a bit of a hypocrite, so I dumped him.

Why is that? I've always completed it, so obviously have missed something different.

The reward for this quest is a nice shield for a peaceful solution but the talks  you have will change after meeting Mazzy because after that you know it’s not werewolves anymore.

Hmmm... I have never gotten the shield. All Madulf says after Minister Lloyd has been convinced to work with them is something about no one has come by to talk to them yet. Maybe i just have to wait?

I have few fails with quests, riddles and dialogue options. It's mostly SCS(2) where i underestimate enemies sometimes and catch a charm or hold spell and get killed.
This stupid Hamadryad and the lightning trap in the Cloakwood mine got me a few times in BG.

Same. I also forget about "The best dart thrower on the Sword Coast"((Bracers of Archery)) everytime I play Baldur's Gate 1.
Not so sure about the second one though. I'm only going through for the second time and the first time ended up having 300k too much gold at the end.

I'm still going through parts of Baldur's Gate 2 (only 1 character so far entered chapter 5) for the FIRST time, so I wish I HAD some metagaming. Under-cover in the Under-dark I keep finding myself preparing for battles that don't come cause the plot takes a - for all you old-timers familiar - unexpected twist. It was fun though, seeing drow come to ruins through their own deceit. Another time I hope to have enough experience (me as a player that is) to tackle some battles I now avoided (a particulair lair, a particular city, and another city where I chose to keep on my guise but you might throw it off and start ALL OUT WAR).

I pretty much used to forget the Level 1 Watchers Keep Ritual every single time - but after I lost a perfectly fine no-reload game due to clicking the wrong combination, I always check it before doing anything.

Things that still happen to me: I forget some forced rests, like when you go to the Graveyard to kill Bodhi after returning from the Underdark and its daytime, you will automatically rest and lose all your buffs. I also happen to forget the fact that romance interests usually get abducted there, so I don't remove their equipment.

Sorry Thunderdwarf somehow I missed this question; The next step is to go talk to Minister Lloyd, he gets embarrassed and admits that he has been putting it off but will go talk to Madulf right away... now give him a bit of time to get there (I normally rest) then go get your shield from Madulf.

Strange. Maybe you're playing a different game from me? In my games he walked out immediately after saying he would talk to him.

I’ve never gotten the shield without talking to the mayor twice but the obvious variable would be Mazzy i.e. perhaps you already have her by that stage?

On a somewhat related topic, Madulf makes an appearance during the ranger stronghold quests & I’ve heard (unconfirmed) that you must resolve this quest before that or you will lose out on the shield.

use your biography. every character gets a biography - it is the same name as your character next to the character file. usually, the default is 'You wanted to be an adventurer...'. instead, store the answers to amaunator 231 311 132.

to hit EVERY area in watchers keep exactly once (except the starting room):
north = straight up, south = straight down.
3003 (start) SE 3011 NW 3003 SW 3009 SW 3004 SW 3012 NW 3008 SE 3006 SE 3013 SE 3010 SW 3005 NW 3007 NW 3014 NW 3015 (exit)

Triangle-Red-Medium activates the exit portal at area #8
Triangle-Green-Medium Storm Star +3
Circle-Blue-Long Intelligence
Circle-Square-Triangle Wisdom
Circle-Red-Long Constitution
Square-Blue-Short Dexterity
Square-Short-Medium Strength
Red-Green-Short Charisma
Blue-Green-Long Magic Resistance

I have a text document on my desktop to do the same thing, however I don't tend to use it.
