This is my 2nd playthough. The first time around I got this quest. While playing in Act 3 on this playthrough I had started to notice it weird how their seemed to be this massive gap in between the last time anything involving Fenris happened. I seemed to feeel like I rememebred this quest and was wondering whn the heck it happens. I looked it up and at the start of Act 3 Fenris never told me to meet him about his sister. Nothings happened at all. I got both gifts for him...i got questioning beliefs...but Alone never started up. Is this a bug?
Alone possible to not even get?

This is all rather confusing
Why on earth is he the only companion in the entire game where taking him somewhere unguided is needed to trigger a quest? Every single companion has you speak to them to trigger quests. I guess I needed to leave Kirkwall to trigger this? Odd thing is I took him to the Dalish Camp and it never triggered anything.
My completed quests says A bitter Pill was done even though I never did it. Says he went out and met his sister alone, damn.

Did you do his Act 2 quest?

Yeah to get Fenris' Act3 quest you have to do his Act2 quest. Which is only triggered if you bring him with you while zoning out to the Wounded Coast (I think its WC, wiki has exact instructions). Its frustrating because if you never have him in party, this quest will never even appear in the journal nor will the game give you any other indication that it even exists. I completely missed it on my first play through >.>.

A Bitter Pill is triggered after completing Blackpowder Courtesy when travelling outside of Kirkwall with Fenris in your party. Sundermount or Wounded Coast shouldn't matter.

It doesn't need to be completed after Black Powder Courtesy. It can be given at any time you go to the Wounded Coast.renjility wrote...

OP; It may take a few times before the scene triggers. I usually get it when I have a quest too do on the Wounded Coast or Sundermount then the scene triggers.

This makes me wonder: What happens to Fenris in-universe if A Bitter Pill never triggers? Presumably, Hadriana never finds him and the search moves on... what happens thereafter?

I did absolutely everything. But when I looked it up it claimed I needed Fenris in my party anytime during Act 2 on the random coast to initiate the quest about his sister. Thing is I do EVERY quest...I went to the Wounded Coast MANY times and it never initiated....so I definatly think you DO need to bring him for it to hjappen.
Xilzhra, He does find her because my codex lists it as a complete quest even though I never did it and he never even told Hawke ABOUT his sister. It says something like, "Fenris went to deal with his sister by himself. He hasn't spoken about it since then". The game just assumes it as Fenris told Hawke about his sister and dealt with it even if you never did the quest.
Really annoying I dont understand why it happened.

If in Act 2 you were never ambushed by slavers whilst leaving Kirkwall (Fenris must be in your party for this to happen) so you never confronted Hadriana the Alone wont trigger in Act 3.
