After that is Garrus. right from his intro in the tower he just seemed cool. when he capped that thug holding Dr. Michel at gun point, that earned him permanant broheim status with me.
Least favorite: Jacob, Kaidan, Tali

Kaiden,Kaidan,Carth - Character just didn't really do anything for me. I played mostly as MaleShep so my interaction with him was limited. Didn't feel like I got to know him at all. When I finally did get around to playing FemShep and he turned down a threesome with Liara and I, I revoked his Man Card permanently and never felt the least bit guilty about leaving him with the nuke from that point on.
Ashley - I like her because she's real. She's not some Mary Sue that hold every "proper" belief. She's been screwed over by her family history and she still works hard to prove herself. And despite claims to the contrary, based on misinterpretation of dialogue, she's not racist. A bit xenophobic, yeah, but people generally fear/mistrust the unknown. And when she encounters Shep on Horizon, she's understandably pissed off and suspicious about the company he's keeping. Her reaction especially makes sense if you romanced her in ME1. Women tend to get all huffy when you don't tell them you've come back from the dead. I like that she'll still be suspicious in ME3. Hate it when major trust issues are solved quickly.
Garrus - He helped me hunt down Saren in ME1 and helped me take the fight to the Collectors in ME2. If Shep was ever going to do a buddy-cop movie, Garrus would be the co-star. He's also got some issues and I liked that I was able to help him in both games. And not just help by putting bullets into things. I also like that we can continue to influence Garrus into either Paragon or Renegade mindsets throughout both games.
Wrex - Glad I didn't have to put him down on Virmire. Smart Krogans are such a rare resource. We've killed so many people/things together. I really felt like we bonded. Plus I got that crappy armor back for him. If I can forgive Garrus for shooting me on Omega what's a little shotgun pointing between friends.
Tali - She was way too little sister in ME1. Glad she grew up in ME2. I was kinda surprised when she came onto me in ME2. But her sassy-ness definitely grew on me.Her stubborness about the geth is also nice. As much as I like influencing outlooks of my squadmates I like that she has her own opinion and isn't persuaded into completely abandoning them just from talking to her.
Liara - Her awkwardness in ME1 was nice coming from the "hot alien chick". And even though she was actually older chronilogically than Shep by more than 100 years I felt like a dirty old man coming onto her. In ME2 iara got a lot darker. Her time with Shepard changed her, and I'm not sure if it was entirely for the better. He made her a soldier. And I don't think it was just from her time with him but also all the times they joined minds. I think she got a bit of Shepard in her, whether you romanced her or not.
Jacob - The only other character to star in their own game and he's a bit of an idiot. He was also kind of an a-hole to Shep. Okay, I get that you don't want to talk about your personal stuff before the loyalty mission. But when I get shot at so you can deal with your personal stuff, it's share time. It's even more ridiculous when FemShep becomes involved. Possibly the only character I could do with less than Kaidan. So maybe he's my least favorite character.
Miranda - She rebuilt me, better, stronger, faster, now with more evil cyborg parts... Plus her VA is Yvonne and I've got a bit of a crush on her. And I've always had a strange attraction to the Femme Fatale / Ice Queen characters. Plus, I like that she ****s around in that catsuit showing off her assets. Also, dat azz.
Jack - That poor girl has been screwed so often, by so many that it's no surprise she's dysfunctional. The first time that I romanced her and she was crying was a bit heartbreaking. Her potty-mouth also reminded me of Deb from Dexter so that's a plus.
Mordin - Scientist Salarian, Gilbert & Sullivan, nothing else needs to be said.
Grunt - Nothing like guiding a nice young krogan through the trials and tribulations of puberty... by killing lots of big things. He's my boy.
Thane - Assassin that uses ridiculous philosophy to escape the responsility of his action. My Shep always owned his actions, Thane does not. I don't respect Thane, he was a tool and I needed him for the job. Even TIM accepts responsibility for his actions. Not to mention that Thane is a deadbeat dad.
Samara - Another person escaping responsibility for her actions, with a codified ridiculous philosophy. She'll murder law enforcement officers, doing their job, because of this code. I often wondered how her body count stacked up against Morinth's...
Morinth - Rabid dog that had to be put down. Even my renegade Sheps killed her. I felt bad that her genetics made her a killer but she was evil. She preyed on people and murdered them for nothing more than power and a moment of pleasure. She's a serial killer.
Legion - I really wish he wasn't so late to the game. It was difficult to get to know him until the DLC came out. If you wanted to get to know him you basically had to save the DLC and N7 missions until after the suicide mission.
Kasumi - She was alright but didn't really feel like I could get to know her like I could the other squadmates.
Zaaed suffers from the same DLC-itis as Kasumi. Interesting character but the interactions were shallow. I'm hoping the DLC characters in ME3 are implemented better than they were in ME2.

Favorite Mass Effect character: Saren
Favorite squad to have on my side from either game: Miranda[I like her overall, and her leadership abilities are a pleasant bonus to squad health or firepower] and Liara because stasis and singularity are invaluable.
Hated squad members strictly on personality: Jacob to me useless in the rpg sense, ****ing kanye west. However, I do enjoy his pull field/shotgun/squad incendiary bonuses.

Male - Garrus (Brofist)
Female - Tali (Interesting culture)
Least favorites
Male - Zaeed (Blank character)
Female - Ashley (Racist b****. Glad I let her die in Virmire)
EDIT: What the hell guys? Jacob's a much better character than Zaeed. Why are you all hating on him, lol?
(Sure, the overall team is better than him but Zaeed is much worse)

Jack is fantastic for crowd control.
She gets a ton of hate but honestly I think she is one of the deepest characters in the game. Never judge a book by its cover. You have to get to know her, play psychologist with her to really figure her out. Most of the other characters are much more straight forward. And if your just unwilling or don't want to bother to do that, then that says more about you then it does about her.

Zaeed may be an ass, an ugly selfish ass, but at least he's something. Jacob is just... nothing. He's a blank line somebody forgot to fill in on the mad lib that was the ME2 script.

You go to Omega, pick him up, go to his little old base, kill a couple of dozen mercs, then leave. After that THERE'S NO MORE DIALOGUE. Only crappy banters praising his ass-misadventures.

I agree with this. I grown to like Jack, she is like a onion, you really have to peel her layers to get her to unravel so-to-speak. There are a handful of squadmates like this though, but she is definitely one of them. They are really well developed characters. Jack has been through so much and to judge her shows a huge problem with society IMO. We judge people every day on first impression and write them off like the donations or COGS from last years taxes.
I think you said a mouthful Doc. Although given that this is a game I am not judging people who didnt get to know Jack better, but in a sense it really does show that we are quick to judge a book by its cover.
Jack is one of BioWare's most authentic characters to date. She is super believable.

Shepard: "You survived being shot in the head?"
Zaeed: "Rage is a hell of an anesthetic."
Jacob may have more lines; but none of them are particularly good. Zaeed may not say a lot; but when he does open his mouth he has some pretty badass lines.

Kasumi didn't say much either, still had a lot more character depth then that stump called Jacob. He's just a generic soldier boy, period. Theres absolutely nothing special at all about him, nothing interesting or unique in the slightest. At least Zaeed has an interesting history getting betrayed and surviving a point black shot to the face and then going on a 20 year vandetta. Jacob has nothing to his legacy, he's just another chunk of flesh holding a rifle that nobody will remember after he dies. I pretty much treat him like just another nameless crew member on board the normandy. He's the gun polisher.

Kaidan needs to die again in ME3 if he's somehow resurrected and it'll be the first thing on my to-do list.
