Acting is about being able to convey thoughts and emotions to the audience through acting skill, naunce and subtly. This takes years of work and practise to accomplish. Being the presenter of a lame 2 minute Internet newsround doesn't qualify you for this.

Well they're not asking her to play a super space marine or alien who can only live in their suit. They're asking her to be a reporter/media member aka her job she has done daily for years.

Either way to me her hire is pretty much 75% nerd-bait.

They're asking her to be a character.   If a character is defined only by their profession they are not a well written character. 

I'm sure she has plenty of dialogue that is not reporting anything.

The reporter is just there to gather information on the different conflicts with help from Shepard and her reports changes throughout the conflict if it goes bad or good for either sides.

I think she's mostly to help the player keep track of what's going on.

So she's sort of like Kelly Chambers was in ME2 ?

That's how other factions can keep track of what's happening and they'll give some comments here and there.

And honestly, I can't care less who her voice actor is.

Jessica Chobot? Odd choice, definitely one I didn't see coming.

It'll be interesting to see how she fares as an actor. I know she's in some IGN and G4 skits, but that's it. Is she any good in those?

From what you say, I'm going to be talking to her a fair bit.  So her voice actor needs to at the least be non-annoying.
