If she is forced to wear armor I better have a way not having her wear armor I am sick of every woman in ME looking like some freaking nun .

Uh, Miranda wants a word with you.

Samara and Jack would like some words too.

samara is fine in her outfit as for jack I hate her so I don't care . its not my fault many on here have a freaking issue with women dressing sexy as well can kick ass . but I would like for Bioware to give us a option on what we as players want the squad mates to wear instead of some forced rule placed on us all because some on here are too scared of how a woman looks in  a game.

Vega is a freaking beefcake. No man would fight against somebody like that and not have their noses bloodied, unless he would be some kind of super martial artist like Bruce Lee.

Shepard is already a Mary Sue that can kill anything, do we really have to complain about something that shows a little more realism for a change?

Okay, let's put it in this way - I doubt that Vanguards or Soldiers may be that bad in blocking punches that they got bleeding noses. I don't ask that Vanguard should be better biotic than Samara, snipe better than Legion, infiltrate better than Thane or hack better than Tali, but shouldn't CQC expert be, you know, expert in CQC?

Pfft. BioWare probably wouldn't acknowledge Shepard's class again, but there always is headcanon.

Chobot has no gaming cred?  Aside from working for IGN, you've seen the damned video of her talking about ME - she's obviously a fan.  As for whether or not she can act, I imagine she had to pass an audition; I doubt they just let her have the role for the hell of it.  Acting roles have to start somewhere - and hers is probably just a supporting one - it's not like they've thrust her into a main role.  And look at Tricia Helfer; barely any acting experience and she managed to get a role in BSG very early on in her career.

Yes, I particularly liked the way that the only Mass Effect term she used was "Krogan". Foiles has written long editorials about her favorite games, going into actual detail about what she did and didn't like about the stories, characters, gameplay systems, etc. She's also written on gaming culture as a whole, analyzing it on multiple levels. Chobot on the other hand did nothing other than read off a teleprompter because she didn't want to play Tetris or Snake on a phone.

So yes, Foiles is a more reputable source.

Okay... so Foiles is probably a better games journalist, but how does that discredit Chobot as a fan or an actor?  At the end of the day, it's the audition you look at, not just the CV.  She probably proved to be enough of a fan and liked her audition enough to give her the role (and a supporting role, at that).

BW Gives you a trailer acknowledging femshep, shows exciting new footage and something other than "action, boom, boom, xplosions, war, yeeehaww" and instead of being happy, what do you do? Complain that some girl is voicing a character you haven't seen before and you don't have a clue if she is even slightly important.

BSN at its finest, gentlemen.

The Vega fight is right as it should be. Shepard is an "undead cyborg" as said a couple of posts above me, of course he's letting that gorilla vent.

Couldn't bloody agree more.  I'm sick of hearing about people moaning about the possibility that you can't choose Shepard's way out of getting his/her arse kicked.  No matter how good any of us are with our controllers, Shepard canonically has a physical/mental limitation that we can't bypass.  We should have the choice to get Shepard to do the best s/he can, but Shepard should be realistically limited so that s/he isn't a god/Mary Sue character.

E.g. what if Shep's deadlifting 1 rep max was 150kg; if there's a 200kg weight, it shouldn't matter how well you use your controller, Shep should never be able to lift that particular weight at that time.  That's not taking away player choice; it's limiting it within realistic parameters.

And this is a big deal in preventing bad storytelling.  E.g. imagine Terminator II at the end where Arnie gets his arse kicked but kills the T1000 in the end; if he didn't, there would've been far less suspense and his victory would've felt far less satisfying and much less of a relief as a consequence.

But see that's the thing. I don't think that In-Game Realsitically Vega can take Shepard. Unless he, too, has been upgraded. Yeah, he's a beef cake, but so was that Yahg.

Kai Leng on the other hand is not an obvious beefcake, but I think he can stomp the heck outta Shepard. So, the size of the character isn't really the determining factor.

And there are alot of fans that would love to see Shepard bleed. I just don't think this is that situation. It seems to me Shep is holding back.

I don't know what it is but I've generally felt that BW makes the nose size a bit disproportionate.  Just a little too big.

common guy she is fairly attractive you all remind me this  http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/would-not-bang
its good to be european so I dont know who she is so I got no reason to hate her based on a four minute video....

Of course Shepard is holding back? Why would Shepard beat the living crap out of a subordinate who is obviously using the sparring session to vent?

Loved the video. Gave some good glimpses into Vega and all. I liked it. :)

And then comes the less thrilling parts (for me at least). You guessed it: Diana Allers. I mean, I don't have anything against the woman who voices her, since I just found out she even existed.

But seriously, what on Earth is she wearing? It's like a swimming suit, only it's not... And then its neckline is so low! I mean, do the Alliance really condone that sort of attire? Not even a jacket on top of that or anything? She just goes around like that? She looks like she came out of a gym! She had better put on some other clothes if she wants to come aboard the Normandy, or she will feel really out of place among all the crew (which I'm hoping don't dress like this).

I can't point to anyone in the ME-verse that wore something even remotely like this. I mean, even Miranda was more covered, for pity's sake! [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/tongue.png[/smilie]

Oh, and her cheeks creep me out, too. :?

But the rest? The rest was stellar! Loved that Female Shepard teasing! Can't wait to see her in action proper!:wizard:

I agree.

Also it's really not that hard to get a bloody nose from any punch to be honest. I sort of doubt Sheps nose is made out of solid steel. The res of him however... Probably is.

Lol @ entitled people who think they have a right to determine who gets a chance to do something.

Karma is funny though, I'll bet you all are probably bitter about being looked over or something, cause you sure are adamant about how qualified or unqualified you think she is when:

1. You've only seen a trailer with less than 3 seconds of material - if that...
2. You've only seen a trailer with less than 3 seconds of material - if that...
2. You've only seen a trailer with less than 3 seconds of material - if that...

Oh yeah did I mention, You've only seen a trailer with less than 3 seconds of material - if that...

Wow, people who feel what they think matters on these issues... *sending memo for those that missed it*

Yes, God forbid we express any reservations we might have or, you know, our OPINIONS. It's quite clear you're keen on White Knighting for her but please pay attention. It's not the footage that's been shown that is the issue. It is the unknown quantity of her ability to voice act that is the main concern and the reasons behind her casting above skilled and experienced VAs. If she legitimately auditioned and earned the role, good for her. If she didn't and this is a stunt move designed to draw in players, then that is not such a good thing.

Did you research the other characters historical performances when you watched who was voicing ME2?  Don't even bother answering... it was rhetorical. My issue isn't your free speech, its your questionable motives for being "concerned" about her "abilities". I'd venture to say that you just dislike her and for whatever reason have a predisposition on why BioWare might have hired her... lets say the whole "hire her for her looks" position.

Deltaboy37-1 wrote...

Just as an aside, that statement is pretty amusing considering how vehement you are at telling us what you think.

No, you're wrong. Its not what I think, it is what I am observing. It's just funny that now all of a sudden we are worried about peoples acting background, when I don't recall hearing anyone complain when Y'vonne got signed on, or [insert name here] actor or actress.

To me it is just amusing that people don't normally come out with what they really want to say when making points but rather hide behind false motives to make a point. So you are really worried that BioWare just picked her up for [insert assumptive reason(s) here] and totally ditched an audition or let her slip through the cracks (mind you with the same personnel that hired the "award winning" voice actors and actresses)???

I'm curious.

WATCH THE VIDEO

In a series known for delivering one of the most cinematic experiences
in all of interactive entertainment with an emphasis on high quality
digital acting, BioWare is aiming to once again set a new bar with Mass Effect™ 3. Today, BioWare, a Label of Electronic Arts Inc., unveiled the cast for 2012’s first blockbuster game, Mass Effect 3.
The ensemble will see the return of fan favorites, including Martin
Sheen as the Illusive Man, Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale as Male and
Female Shepard and will introduce Freddie Prinze, Jr. as James Vega, a
marine who will help Commander Shepard take Earth back.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the passion and emotion the entire cast brought to their performances in Mass Effect 3,” said Casey Hudson, Executive Producer of the Mass Effect
series. “In a story where Earth and the entire galaxy are at war, we
needed to take the performances to a level of dramatic power and
intensity that we’ve never previously attempted. This extremely talented
cast delivered.”

The star-studded cast for Mass Effect 3 includes the return of Golden Globe winner Sheen (“The Departed”, “Apocalypse Now”), Seth Green (“Robot Chicken”, “Family Guy”) as Joker, Tricia Helfer (“Battlestar Galactica”) as the Normandy’s A.I., Yvonne Strahovski (“Chuck”) as Miranda, and Carrie-Anne Moss (“The Matrix”)
as Aria T'Loak. Other returning fan favorites include Meer and Hale as
Male and Female Shepard, Ali Hillis as Dr. Liara T’Soni, Keith David (“Platoon”) as Captain Anderson and Lance Henriksen (“Aliens”) as Admiral Steven Hackett. Prinze, Jr. (“24”) and Jessica Chobot (G4 TV), as news reporter Diana Allers, are the newcomers to the series.

“I have always loved science fiction and I have always loved games and Mass Effect
is really the first time both come together successfully,” said Prinze,
Jr.- “It is a completely immersive game where you really feel like
you’re part of this journey inside this universe. It will make you
think, you will care about the character you are playing, and you will
care about the characters that you bring into battle with you.”

You know what EA made the choice to hire Jessica Chobot for Mass Effect 3 and you as a player have a choice to either buy or not . but how dare can anyone say she does not belong in the game really just because she never did any VO work .  I think its rather disgusting you and your kind make me want to freaking vomit and puke . Jessica Chobot deserves better than this crap but what can I expect from a forum that is scared to f**king death of women in games dressing sexy and looking good.

Well that's true about Shep's enhancements, but, to be fair, Shepard didn't have a sustained boxing match with the yahg and couldn't beat him that way.  Shep certainly had the guts to try some hand-to-hand but s/he was also wearing armor (some of which can augment your melee damage) - for the most part you were shooting at him, with the occasional punching in between just to throw him off a bit - you never get close to knocking him out though.

You could be right that Shep is holding back though - but perhaps Shep's enhancements bring him (or her, especially) roughly up to par with Vega (he has to be incredibly strong with that physique - the guy looks like a pro strongman).
