Diana Allers, she work got G4 TV as a game reporter?i hope G4 TV not gonna by bias, gonna look for another souce for good review.

And this is another problem.  Now the whole station can be avoided and thought of as biased when they review ME3 just because an individual for that network is in the game they'll be reviewing.  So I can't believe a work Adam Sessler says or Kevin, or anyone else on that network.  It sets a bad precedent and while it may be good for Chobot in the short term, it can prove to be a very bad move down the line.

God - I love these cast videos - I loved the one for ME2 and I love this one.  Martin Sheen is da bombe.  And a brief shot of femshep in action - can't squee enough.  I assume this is on page 40-something because there are forty or more pages of everyone else going YAY!  (will read thread now to check).  Only 33 more days of torture left - and we have the demo before that.  Still not soon enough.

So, when 50 outlets give ME3 5 stars, it'll be fine but if G4 does it, it'll be "teh bias?!" I can already tell you that ME3 is going to get at least 4 and probably 5 and that's without playing it.

Seriously though, I wonder if Bioware has considered that they may have tripped into an ethnics violation issue with hiring of Chobot. Even if it's a small part, the fact is that they hired a gaming reporter for a game makes it look like they're "buying" their way to a perfect score, even if that's not the intent. Someone didn't think this through.

You're not the only one who thinks that.

'EA and G4 TV's Mass Effect 3 Ethics Issue'
http://worthplaying....itorials/84961/

"While this is no doubt great news for Chobot, as she's getting a chance to contribute to a top-tier video game from one of her favorite developers, the way the announcement was handled presents a bit of an ethical quandary for both EA and G4 TV.

Why?

Because a mere two weeks ago, G4 TV had Chobot previewing Mass Effect 3 in her capacity as a journalist.
No matter how you slice it, this looks bad."

wow so what do you think SEC is going to investigate this really EA has done nothing wrong

What you're saying doesn't make sense.  If I put the best product out there and say so; then others say the same thing I did, it doesn't absolve me of bias.  It doesn't fall into my wheelhouse to say, objectively, that my product is the best when I'm trying to market it.  This is why people give testimonials and others still don't buy it because they think testimonial givers are paid for their endorsements.  For instance, I can tell you that P90X is a system that works, but it will take your knowledge of my history with the company that makes P90X to know if I'm saying something to make money from said company or if I'm telling the truth about my experience with the program.

Let's be honest, when it gets it's 4 or 5 stars on G4, it won't have anything to do with Chobot. I've always got what you guys are saying but its really much ado about nothing. Whoever reviews the game is not going to go, "This is a 3 star game at best but my friend Chobot is in it so 5 stars!"

It took 5 full playthrus before I even noticed she was IN the game.....  And since technically I'm supposed to keep a low profile, talking to reporters isn't exactly a good idea...

so freaking what she did me3 on g4 tv! ever stop to realize that maybe mass effect could help chobots career? heck look at freddie prinz jr. that man hasnt done anything since scooby doo and for all we know me3 could help his career.

im not knocking the cast hell i enjoy what i heard  but seriously use your brain people before you speak

It honestly doesn't matter if the game is good or bad.

When someone who worked on the game (note that she started working with Bioware around a year ago) also reports on it as a journalist, it looks like a straight up conflict of interest.

I'd be saying the same if it were anyone from Bioware or EA there "reporting" on the game. Casey is a great guy, but does anyone here think he's not biased for the game? He worked on it.

If he showed up at any outlet "reporting" on ME3 it would be a conflict of interest.

If you don't believe that, then why do we even have gaming sites? Shouldn't everyone just get their news straight from the corporate PR teams, complete with the spin that the publisher/producer wants?

how do we know this wont have chobot skyrocket into something else based on her success with the game? your to quick to agree with what a gaming site says before you played the game yet talk to the charachter in game.

look at mark meer the guy is more known for shepard than carth from kotor. give it time and meer will be in movies because the man is good at what he does.

Your concern is on Chobot's career getting a boost.  I don't think that's what Syriels getting at.  Actually I want to claim that it isn't what Syriel's getting at, but I'll take the safe path.  This looks like nepotism or rubbing of elbows for favors to some people.  Having someone who is recognized as a journalist (putting it out there that I've seen the name, but I've never known who she was) talk about a new product you're releasing and is going to be featured in the game demonstrates a conflict of interest.

Also I do want to mention that this is also not a positive method of growing your brand with regard to Chobot.  Why?  Because it makes her an easy mark.  I can imagine a company deciding to use her as a voice over actress so long as she does a favorable story on the product she's working on.  Even if a statement is made that there's no bias on her part, everyone else will maintain that she's going to have a biased viewpoint which is usually why things like this aren't done.  It would be like Roger Ebert reviewing a movie he directed.  Why would anyone want to listen to what he has to say about his own movie when he dons his professional critics cap after he just took of his director's cap?  He has no objective viewpoint at that stage because it's his work.

@Xeranx

You've accurately summarized my thoughts. That's exactly what I was getting it.

No, Mark Meer didn't voice Carth, Raphael Sbarge did. Meer wasn't in KoTOR at all.

Ever wonder why Kaidan sounded ominously similar to Carth? Yea, that isn't a coincident.

The situation should never of happened in the first place; If the game (surprisingly) gets a lower score than expected I wouldn't put it past Bioware to fiddle the channels again.

It's funny that you mention that, because I think Roger Ebert actually co-wrote with a director of a film, back in the 70s, while he was still a Film Critic.  I think the film was The Valley of the Dolls or something to that effect.

As far as him reviewing his own work; that I do not know.

EDIT: Google is my friend... from the suntimes newspaper website.

Ebert's Note: "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls,"
a movie for whichI wrote the screenplay in 1969, has over the years
become a cult film. Although it would not be appropriate for me to
review it or give it a star rating, I offer the following observations
written for Film Comment magazine on the occasion of the movie's 10th
anniversary in 1980.

I'd suggest learning to read and re-writing your post before making a smart ass remark.

On topic: I've never punched Jilana hasabeanwilsdjb, I've always played the Paragon way and made her feel bad about the way she's trying to twist Shepards words into something more.

I don't want to sound cynical but the entire mainstream gaming press is a joke. Talk of ethics is hilarious. Reviews for most of the games by the big publishers are essentially written by the publishers themselves. The only real opinion outlets have are scores. Great recent example is ign's review (and video review) of FFXIII-2. They gush about the game then give it an 8.
I understand the concern about Chobot and quite honestly seeing her in the game made me *rolleyes* a little but in terms of gaming media ethics its small potatoes.
