Honestly. I'm not offended by her appearance at all. She reminds me of the female version of Vega - skin tight clothes galore, leaving little to the imagination. I'm alright with it, really.
The only thing I'm worried about is whether or not the actress will do a good job.
Well, that and I am actually starting to listen to the ME3 detractors who whine about how much ME3 is kind of selling out and marketting to a very specific crowd of players. Of all the VAs in the world, of all the interesting and sci-fi related people out there, references galore, you chose a host from IGN?
At least Freddie Prinze Jr. looks like he probably PUSHED to get the Vega role. Hell. Vega looks nothing like that guy. There's probably talent there.
But Bioware is kind of failing in the 'Look! You get to romance a sexy game host! IN A SCI FI GAME!' thing. If they are trying to go for a theatrical edge like they keep claiming, giving a hawt IGN host some cameo time just cheapens the work.
No offense to folk who are excited about her being on there. I just question their motives.
Hmm. Marketing to a specific crowd you say. Yes that sounds about right. Sexy video game host. Might be appealing to say... gamers?
Straight male gamers who have the money and time to watch IGN, yes. I asked several of my buddies and coworkers who are themselves straight male gamers working in Hollywood who this lady was, and even they didn't know.
Its a niche cameo wink. Which I mean, doesn't bug me that much I guess. But its something to be aware of if you care enough, I guess.
I think the decision makes sense because while she has to popularity to attract gamers she probably doesn't have the price tag that a veteran VA or screen actor would. Hell if she's even half the fan she says she is she might've done it for free. I'm not saying she did. But there's method in their madness.
I really doubt that. A paycheck is a paycheck, especially for a woman of her looks and fanbase.
If anything, I see it as a move to attract very SPECIFIC kinds of gamers. The sort that aren't RPGers. Halo, Modern Warfare, Army of Two. That comes to mind. Because of all my buddies who actually watch IGN, the only ones that two are exclusively FPS gamers.
Not to say its a bad thing, but it is something to be aware of when it comes to the crowd Bioware is trying to cater towards.
