So we're only facing zombies and Cerberus? Which only needs TIM to be indoctrinated since they are just grunts who follow orders. So all of the conflicts we've seen so far, all of the little wars, salarians and krogan, quarians and geth will jsut stop so we can kill s**t? If that's the case then they've gotten rid of the story and I'm no longer interested.

They do pale in comparison do they not? But I see your point. I can't completely rule out the possibility of free willed sentients as enemies.

But because of indoctrination there really is no free will if you're around Reapers.  There's pretty much 3 options with Reapers,

1. Vaporized by Reaper
2. Turned into grey slushy to make another Reape
3. Indoctrinated

Like I said, that's the expectation, not necessarily the outcome. Journalists get killed all the time while covering the war, but it doesn't hurt to cover your ass and wear a t-shirt that says "press" on it. Better safe than sorry.

Would you think a PRESS shirt or a medic badge would make a difference to zombies? No? Well that's more or less what husks are. They're not sentient. Therefore you can't apply sentient expectations to them. And indoctrinated aren't that much better.

You may never know when the Reaper's want to do a interview

They do but I thought it was part of the story for Shepard to become involved and resolve the problems of other species to get them focused to assist with the war effort. I also imagine that if this reporter has any importance to the story that would be where she would get involved the most, not when you're just killing things but covering the actual politics of it all.

That makes sense. A scenario just flashed in my head. Shepard's negotiating some salarian-krogan conflict, tempers get raised and guns start being pointed, including one at Diana.  She points to her press shirt and says "Hey I just work here"

Not particularly clever. But now I'm imagining her with a snarky sense of humor, not as upbeat as Kasumi, more deadpan.

Yes but android was saying that not everyone we meet that may end up antagonistic will necessarily be a Reaper agent. Come to think of it Batarians might resist the Reapers yet refuse to ally with us (and particulary hate Shepard for Arrival and, in the case of the Ruthless background, Torfan)

But yeah. I can see how her cameo might add to certain player fantasies...

...But she really really really doesn't add to the whole sci-fi story as a whole.

I guess I don't care for her because her design and VA wasn't meant for me as a bisexual woman who doesn't know her or finds her attractive. See. If Diana Allers was voiced by the woman who played Seven of Nine, and also made in her likeness? I'd be interested. I would LOVE the reference. I would think 'How Meta'.

But because she's molded after an IGN host who has a cameo role and hasn't contributed anything to sci-fi or doesn't look like she auditioned for the role like Freddy Prinze Jr. did (She looks hand selected), I don't hate her. But I'm also left out from the experience. And I think its a waste.

But hey. Maybe she'll surprise me. Who knows?

I had no idea who this woman was. So I looked her up, saw a couple vids. I kinda hate her o.o

So I asked some of my gamer friends about her and a mutual opinion was given.

But I don't know her, or how she'll act soooooo we'll see. But I already don't have a very good opinion and the way she's modeled, coupled with the voice actor, coupled with the fact she'll be a reporter, I kinda want to punch her.

Well any well written character has to have something about them that makes the stand out and blend with the dynamic set up by the other characters. But thats where I would see her doing her work. Like in the demo where we see two species interract. In a scenario where things go wrong she would probably want information on that to report on. The vast number of killings of husks wouldn't be of muhc interest since everyon'es living that but instead would be more concerned with which governments are alignning toassist and which are abstainign from helping at all.

Still not a fan of dresses in war though.

That's stupid what you did. You wasted your chance not to be biased because of real life about a character in the game.

HolyJellyfish:I see what you're saying. But again I doubt she has a huge role (the best I can hope for is a little bigger than Kelly) so maybe Bioware didn't feel like going all out and getting someone with loads of connections in the biz. I'm still thinking they got a bargain, at least cost wise. We're all waiting to see how good she ends up being.

Otherwise Oddlyotter sort of brought me back around to the following point. We all know it was inevitable. Punching Al Jilani. Will Diana like it, hate it, join in?

I keep seeing references to the Alliance logo. As someone has already mentioned, the emblem on her chest is not Alliance Navy or government, it is Alliance News Network. It's very similar.

I just looked at a video trying to find the ANN and yes you are correct. Surprised I forgot about that.

Well. She is a reporter for IGN. I think that's outfit is typical of what she wears on IGN programs.

She is a cameo.

These are my thoughts exactly. If they were going to model someone for a minor? role, they could have atleast chosen someone more distinctive and unique. She reminds me of the 'hot' girl in highschool and that lack of distinction doesn't add much to my experience at all. It would have been nice if they maybe added someone with an accent, or some kind of indication they could be middle eastern. I don't know, something outside of the box :<

Interesting that you say that as another user was praising her earlier for having a "girl next door" feel as opposed to a soldier, a femme fatale and two aliens- and that's what made it stand out. Differing perspectives right?

Good point. I hadn't considered the Batarians.  Well, we do run into a couple reasonable batarians in ME2 but based on what we know their population is so filled with anti-human propaganda that even in the face of genocide their joining the cause still seems unlikely but we'll see what happens.  Heck, IIRC, they have to pass through Batarian space to get to Earth so maybe most if not all the batarians in that region are dead or husks by the time they get to Earth.

Maybe. She's not a squadmate, but Diana is modelled after her VA. I wouldn't be surprised if her personality is also modelled after her VA.

I mean. She's a reporter. Her VA is a reporter. Its very easy to get into the character of a reporter when that is also what you do for a living. To me, that's a cameo.

Or she's playing herself...

... Man, the whole thing is just kind of weird. At least Miranda Lawson's character was completely different, and while modelled after the likeness of her VA... Her VA was, well, a talented actress.

Chobot just feels very tacked on in this game.

I'm not saying its bad. It just feels very tacked on. I'll have to see if her acting changes my mind. Otherwise, whatevah.

In contrast to all the other people she'll meet, yes, I'm sure she's a breath of fresh air. However the same was said about Jacob, he didn't have emotional baggage like everyone else, but his crime for me was his lack of personality. No idiosyncracies, no distinctive traits that made me think that's Jacob and not some other NPC.
Diana doesn't have to wow me but for as much effort as they put into using a real model, I thought it would be nice if they used someone not traditionally attractive but still appealing so I'll actually feel compelled to know this person. She looks like a nice person rather than an interesting one.

Considering its her VA first role -  i would not be suprised  that would be easeit role for her to start playing.

Start at what you know and branch out... lets just hope the Bioware writers don't do a character assassination on her and through in the character dooming dialogue... they did that  Poor Kelly from  jump street and almost did it to Ashley  too.

Holly hits the nail on the head again.  This character was a direct appeal for a very specific audience, one that I am not a part of.  Think about it--if she really DID just audition for the role like everyone else, why bother with a face scan?  Why give her publicity in a voice cast reveal?  Why make a big stink about it UNLESS Bioware intended to draw the attention of the "target audience?"

Unless her performance proves otherwise, I can't help but feel like this is some weird sales pitch.  Or that Chobot slept with one of the directors.

It's like you post things as soon as I think them.  How do you do that?
