In contrast to all the other people she'll meet, yes, I'm sure she's a breath of fresh air. However the same was said about Jacob, he didn't have emotional baggage like everyone else, but his crime for me was his lack of personality. No idiosyncracies, no distinctive traits that made me think that's Jacob and not some other NPC.
Diana doesn't have to wow me but for as much effort as they put into using a real model, I thought it would be nice if they used someone not traditionally attractive but still appealing so I'll actually feel compelled to know this person. She looks like a nice person rather than an interesting one.

Interesting. I hope Diana doesn't fall in the same trap as Jacob. That's a crime of the writers though not necessarily of her VA. I thought Jacob's VA did a good job but again, not much more to say about him.

This is a good sign that ME3 will give greater attention to the crew, which have been largely neglected in the first two games.

I mean. She's a reporter. Her VA is a reporter. Its very easy to get into the character of a reporter when that is also what you do for a living. To me, that's a cameo.

... Man, the whole thing is just kind of weird. At least Miranda Lawson's character was completely different, and while modelled after the likeness of her VA... Her VA was, well, a talented actress.

Chobot just feels very tacked on in this game.

I'm not saying its bad. It just feels very tacked on. I'll have to see if her acting changes my mind. Otherwise, whatevah.

I still say Aisha Tyler would  have been a much better  pick for this character ... but  I'm going to give the girl a shot...

Kicking her will make many happy. I'm still undecided on it. If I think her acting is bad then probably off the ship with her. I like Good and cheesy bad acting. Not plain bad.

We all learned this morning that G4's own correspondent Jessica Chobot, star of X-Play, Attack of the Show and Feedback, will appear as Diana Allers, a reporter, in the upcoming sci-fi RPG Mass Effect 3. She'll join Martin Sheen, Freddie Prinze Jr. and other big stars in the game.

“It's a dream come true. I’m excited, stoked and honored. I’m seriously in 7th heaven," Chobot said. "It's cool just because it’s in a video game, but it’s also for one of my favorite companies of all time, Bioware, and in one of the most epic series of all time, Mass Effect 3."

Chobot says the sight of herself as a virtual character was a bit of a shock at first.  "You're just not used to seeing yourself like that,"she explained, "I have huge chipmunk cheeks. I hope I don’t look like a chipmunk in real life...and the butt and boobs are impressive. I wish I had boobs like that, and the butt is quite large. I hope my butt is not that big, but I’m happy that everything looks very firm in the game."

Given Mass Effect's popular romance features, I had to ask her: Will gamers be able to have a meaningful, romantic space-relationship with Ms. Chobot?  "Last I heard, I am one of the 'romanceable' characters in the game," Chobot said. "I think you can bring me on the Normandy, I think you have the option of kicking me off too. I’m not sure if that’s before or after you romance me, so we might have a Jersey Shore moment. I think you can romance me with a man or a woman. We’ll see when the game comes out," Chobot added.

When asked whether she planned to "romance" herself, Chobot said, "Oh, I’m gonna give it to me so hard."

Holly hits the nail on the head again.  This character was a direct appeal for a very specific audience, one that I am not a part of.  Think about it--if she really DID just audition for the role like everyone else, why bother with a face scan?  Why give her publicity in a voice cast reveal?  Why make a big stink about it UNLESS Bioware intended to draw the attention of the "target audience?"

Totally. I'm just not in on it, but there are plenty of straight male gamers who probably aren't as well.

The whole thing is just... weird. I don't think Bioware has ever DONE something like this before, have they?

I mean. It feels like someone on the marketting team was like 'Dudes. YOu need to make a role for this Jessica chick. IGN LOVES her. She's like... Olivia Wilde, but not quite discovered yet!'

'... Uhm... Any credentials?'

'Nah. Not really. But she's a reporter! We can make a reporter character, right? ANd do what we did with that Aussie chick ? What was her name? Miranda? Yeah.'

'But we had plans for Emily Won-'

'Nah. This is a movie theatrical experience! We need real people in this game.'

And then they made a character specifically for her, in a role specifically for her, in order to cater specifically to a very specific group of people that adds nothing to the sci-fi themes, concepts, and winks at the game.

She's an IGN Reporter. Who plays a Reporter.

Its just weird. BUT! We will see. I'm not attacking the Jessica fans - I'm glad you got what you wanted. Just speaking for the people who A) Aren't her fans or  Don't know this woman.

She's a female video game reporter for television and the internet. Their job is to market their sexual attraction, because it pays the bills.

Youtube videos of Olivia Wilde before she finally broke out of G4. She did some pretty demeaning things (Stuff her face with hotdogs, wear super sexy clothes while getting plunged with water, etc.) in order to appeal to the fanbase.

Hiring IGN staff by game developer is a high risk game, and it will bring a lot of bad publicity. IGN score - which will be probably high - will automatically be identified as biased on the personal involvement of IGN to the game. I learned about this womans existance just now, and I really hate the idea.
It's like a movie critic starred in a movie he is going to review. It's just bad for him and for the movie.

Well, after all I don't visit IGN so it's not my problem. I think I'll escape BSN for some time, because ME3 news are more and more of a joke each day

So long as the game doesn't end with her narrating and building a scrap book, I'm okay with it. Having a reporter, and one in a dress, are odd choices. But in the context of intergalactic warfare, I can see the need for it. I don't have a problem with Bioware including semi famous nerds in their games, I think that goes a long way with the fans. People that clearly get the franchise and why it's successful, like Chobot and Prinze. The fact that she's cute is a plus, and cynics will cite the lowest common denominator, but surely it goes deeper than that.

I had to go look up this "uncanny valley" thing that people kept saying, because after the tenth time I started thinking that maybe it wasn't a reference to her perky breasts.

After reading that, I think I forgot how to do matth. After reading her make a [i[Jersey Shore[/i] reference, she lost what little credibiltiy I was going to give her to begin with. Weren't we supposed to get some human female assassin called "The Vigilante?" Instead we got her? Don't video game nerds get off enough from porn, or do they really need someone form the internet to virtual f**k them with thier Shepard?

If this is indicative of a trend that BW will be pulling in the future, then I think I'm done after ME3.

I hate to agree, but yeah.  ME3 is probably going to be absolutely superb, but it's dropping too many hints of terrible things to come.  Future Bioware purchases will be made with extreme caution.

Yeah. I'm kind of on the same boat.

For a while, in the beginning, I was in love with Bioware. I felt like I could really create my own story and not be bombarded with the obvious, predictable crap that is constantly showcased in videogames everywhere.

If they keep going this direction, it'll feel more and more mediocre.

But who knows? ME's devs always talked about emulating big hollywood action blockbusters. And we all know that THEY look alike, and cater very exclusively to a particular crowd.

We shall see.

Okay, this is the second time I've seen her referred to as Olivia Wilde in this thread. You do mean Olivia Munn, right? Because Olivia WIlde is actually somewhat fetching and engaging, whereas Olivia Munn is awkward, untalented, and awful.

I don't get the bad reaction. Well... besides the PoV of those who will see nothing but Chobot when they interact with this character, as I can sympathize. But keep in mind that you'll probably be able to get past that once you get your impression of the actual character.

To be honest, I don't think a negative reaction because it's Chobot is any more justified than a positive, nerdbait reaction is just because it's Chobot.

I'd give her a chance. All I want is a fun character and a solid performance. I couldn't give a damn who's voicing her as long as those criteria are met.

Well anyways, I don't have the main concerns about her VA, because I don't play the game in english, so I probably won't have a VA hired to appeal
