If I read her commentary from a humorous angle, I guess she's pretty cool.  But I don't like how everything she said is "I" and "me" with not one peep about "Diana" or "my character."  That makes me worried that she isn't playing a character at all, but herself.  Which is bad.

EDIT: Roflspelling.

And once again people are making judgements with very little information and some of it is ugly. What has this chick done to you guys that makes you attack her person? Sleeping to get the job?

Why are women more hateful towards other women? I am glad for her and will wait to see how the character is before I make a judgement on the CHARACTER. The real person has my best wishes!

Ashley & Vega took beatings and now its this chick's turn. Image IPB

Oh. She didn't do anything. She's fine.

And no. It has nothing to do with being sexist (women attacking other women. That's sexist.)

If, say, this character was a hot gorgeous Nathan Fillon cameo, likeness, voice and all... reaction might be different.

Hell. If it was Summer Glau even. Reaction would be different. I would be all onboard. ITs a sci reference!  It makes sense.

What doesn't make sense is when Bioware makes a character, designed exclusively after a woman from a network I didn't even know existed to pander to A) IGN and B) Fanboyzzz. She has contributed nothing to sci-fi. She wears an outfit in game that she'd wear anywhere. She isn't an actress. She doesn't play a role any significantly different from what she is (A sexy reporter. That you feast your eyes on. And you can boink.)

Its not hate. She's just made specifically for a group of people that are going to be straight men who are fanboys.

It is, in itself, promoting her image, promoting IGN, and in return they get more sales, and probably a good review.

DO you not see how WEIRD that is?

We all learned this morning that G4's own correspondent Jessica Chobot, star of X-Play, Attack of the Show and Feedback, will appear as Diana Allers, a reporter, in the upcoming sci-fi RPG Mass Effect 3. She'll join Martin Sheen, Freddie Prinze Jr. and other big stars in the game.

“It's a dream come true. I’m excited, stoked and honored. I’m seriously in 7th heaven," Chobot said. "It's cool just because it’s in a video game, but it’s also for one of my favorite companies of all time, Bioware, and in one of the most epic series of all time, Mass Effect 3."

Chobot says the sight of herself as a virtual character was a bit of a shock at first.  "You're just not used to seeing yourself like that,"she explained, "I have huge chipmunk cheeks. I hope I don’t look like a chipmunk in real life...and the butt and boobs are impressive. I wish I had boobs like that, and the butt is quite large. I hope my butt is not that big, but I’m happy that everything looks very firm in the game."

Given Mass Effect's popular romance features, I had to ask her: Will gamers be able to have a meaningful, romantic space-relationship with Ms. Chobot?  "Last I heard, I am one of the 'romanceable' characters in the game," Chobot said. "I think you can bring me on the Normandy, I think you have the option of kicking me off too. I’m not sure if that’s before or after you romance me, so we might have a Jersey Shore moment. I think you can romance me with a man or a woman. We’ll see when the game comes out," Chobot added.

When asked whether she planned to "romance" herself, Chobot said, "Oh, I’m gonna give it to me so hard."
Jessica will be appearing on Feedback, right here on G4tv.com, tomorrow to discuss Mass Effect 3, the week's video game news, and more, so point your brower here at around noon tomorrow! Mass Effect 3 comes out for the PC, PS3 and the 360 on March 6, 2012.

Good lord.

My IQ dropped from reading this.

Well, okay, maybe she just has a good sense of humor, but still, I get baaad vibes.

Edit : Complete knee jerk reaction... nothing to see here

No, trust me, that is just how she is. I am sure she put the serious hat on when doing her character. Remember too that its been over a year since she voiced the character, I am sure she is out of character by now.

Is it? If she acted as who she was, wouldn't she be better? Also, you see most actors having more or less rehashes of the same role over and over again. Why should voice actors be any different?

The hallmark of the BSN. Just ignore them, it is funny because just imagine what it would look like if these people were held to the same scrutiny. Then again they probably are which is why they are doing the same.

Personally, very psyched about the prospect of Allers being a romance option (and if she is still one for both male and female!). I have a lot of playthroughs of ME3 ahead of me, it seems. It was nice of Chobot to fill us in on those two notes.:o

OMFG... everything I just said... in support of her from the record.... christ. I think a whole  hemisphere of brain cells just committed suicide.  Then again there are very few.... MALE game journalist that have a once of intelligence either... WAIT this is IGN  were talking about...   I think anything with associated with G4 has a level of  dumb that is beyond human understanding... then agan this is channel own by  Comcast .

Oh, wow. Now that I think about it, Adam Sessler would have been such an amazing train wreck of an addition instead that I would revel in its magnificence. The firestorm of anger that it would conjure, here! Oh, my. All awkward and hunched over, and.... balding. He's fun, and would probably have some intelligent insight.

He wouldn't last two days, though. He'd get mauled by a Husk or accidentally slice his throat open on a can of peaches, or something.

If you're a writer and you begin writign a serious crime drama that has very visceral and gritty content and in the last chapter start tacking on things in order to gain attention rather than concerning yourself with the quality of the content you're producing it cheapens the quality of your work.

My knowledge of the character grew as such:

Oh, a female war correspondent on the ship thats cool.

Oh she's wearing a tank top? Well its just a shirt, who gives a s**t?

It's a skin tight latex dress? Yeah, that's bad.

She's voiced by who? Never heard of her?

She's annoying as f**k and the character has her face? Not a good sign

Everyone saying they're appealing to the loser nerd demo. Yeah that seems to be the case.

No.  Because that's not acting.  If you're just being yourself, you're not transporting yourself into the story, not seeing things from an in-universe perspective.  She needs to be a rough-and-tumble reporter who can handle diving headfirst into a warzone, not that one hot chick from IGN.

Especially if we get to boink her.  Now that's just embarassing.  It'd be like if Egoraptor and the Angry Video Game Nerd were not only on the Normandy as themselves, but romance options.

As much as I'd like to get into Egoraptor's pants, I don't want to play a videogame where I can pretend to get into his pants.  And I most certainly wouldn't want to be the employee at the game studio that made that decision.

Also, you see most actors having more or less rehashes of the same role over and over again. Why should voice actors be any different?

You know what happens when actors play the exact same characters over and over?  They suck and I hate them, that's what.  Yeah, I'm looking at you, Adam Sandler.

Holly hits the nail on the head again.  This character was a direct appeal for a very specific audience, one that I am not a part of.  Think about it--if she really DID just audition for the role like everyone else, why bother with a face scan?  Why give her publicity in a voice cast reveal?  Why make a big stink about it UNLESS Bioware intended to draw the attention of the "target audience?"

Unless her performance proves otherwise, I can't help but feel like this is some weird sales pitch.  Or that Chobot slept with one of the directors.

I think BioWare is either trying or have successfully managed to get into bed with IGN. Quid pro quo, and so forth.

Well, I think that no woman who gets a job on the project such as that can be THAT stupid, like talking about her virtual butt and ******. I also assume that "Jersey Shore" is not popular among non-barbaric cultures.

But intelligent or not, a video game reporter starring in a video game which will be reviewed by her medium is unethical.

What concerns me most about the interview that she just did is that she has very little idea if she voice acted a romance scene or even a scene of her getting kicked off the normandy. I can only imagine what her scenes will sound like considering she just nonchalantly confirmed something she's not even certain she did.

This could also be because she's not trying to release too much info but I don't know...

or maybe I'm concerned about the part where she said she thinks.

Yeah. I kinda connected those dots just now too.

That's really kind of... sleezy.

Really Bioware? Really? What's next? Are you also going to add a cameo or two from Kotaku? Maybe an advertisement of Game Informer somewhere in the background?

If this is how games are going to trend, I'm out. Its too weird. I don't know how I feel about it.

But Tara Strong isn't featured with her likeness in this game for some reason. This lady is. THough the reasons might be more corporate back rubbing and less 'SEX SAAAAALES'.

I'm amazed by the people who discredit her appearance for not being an actor, but then backpedal as the idea that she'd essentially just be "playing herself." No wonder this place has such horrible credibility. It's like being on 4chan.
