I don't know. Most other gaming Forums I've gone to aren't very welcoming to me because they cater to a very specific demograph.
Well what demographic specifically?
So despite the very real differences I pointed out in their job descriptions for you it's still reporter=reporter?HolyJellyfish wrote...
She plays a reporter. And she herself is a reporter. She also dresses exactly like her character (Minus the Alliance logo). Its not a big jump. We will have to see if her reactions to craaazy ****e happening is believable or even feels in place.
I just question why an inexperienced actress/VA person is here in the first place.
It just feels... weird. And I've already gone through the list five hundred times WHY it feels weird.
Of all the other VAs, all the other characters, everyone else who is some how affiliated with actual talent, be it professional voice acting or acting, be it some connection to the sci fi world (EDI) or noted otherwise, she's very obscure.
Its like... If they made the new Star Trek sequel, with a speaking role by Kim Kardashian because she's affiliated with hollywood.
It just doesn't make sense.

I like Yakko's ideas. I should look more into embedded journalism. She does have the potential to be an interesting character.
I think its a great idea. A reporter recording Shepard's story so that the Alliance and Council can finally pull their heads out of their asses? Sounds good to me.
Plus, I'd rather have a character that looks unique (and makes sense for her role in the story) than a character that just wears [generic female NPC outfit 14].
And she obviously doesn't have to follow SR2 protocol clothing wise. Its not like she's a combatant.
But she's emebedded in the military. Meaning she has some rules she has to follow. She can't just do or wear what ever she feels like because she's not in the military. The fact that she's non combat person and with the military it means they're responsible for her and she has to stay within the guidelines they lay out for her otherwise she wouldn't get a spot on the ship. That's how it works in the real world and I can not imagine Hacket or Anderson giving her the go-ahead to wear that dress on the Normandy.

Straight white dudes between the ages of 24 - 30? A lot of my concerns don't necessarily effect that crowd, especially if I need to vent about issues that may go against their interests. Bioware is a nice little haven where the insults 'YOu nasty Femi****' and 'Narrowminded attention ****' and 'You are just fat and stupid' doesn't get the same caws of approval as other sites do.
Buts whatevz yo! That's going off topic.

I don't know. You're not extreme in your views but I still detect the subtlest of negative biases.
I think she'd be okay with it. Keep in mind the reason we punch Al-Jilani is becuase she's an idiot. She gives other reporters (like Wong for example) a bad name.CrutchCricket wrote...

The game forum likely is about a game that mostly panders to white males more than Bioware does. BSN can easily be more annoying due to most Bioware games being in general good and actually does their best to please multiple sides (not always successfully) and it basically brings more complaints. Make some advancements in anything and fans claim it isn't Bioware doing their best because of blah blah whatever. Sure at times its true and I would love some criticism but the criticism isn't really constructive most of the time.
Put it simply the more things Bioware puts in a game no matter how good the more people on here have to complain about which makes it more annoying.

Soldiers also shouldn't be running around wearing thigh high heeled boots (MIranda / Samara).
Suspension of belief. Until Bioware hires more female writers and designers, and these discussions can create more appropriate wear (ALA Deus Ex, Skyrim, Uncharted, etc.)

Complaints happen because you can't always cater to everyone.
But I appreciate BSN.
There aren't many forums where a thread can pop up demanding equal representation in a roleplaying game. ANd when haters attack those threads, they often get knocked down by devs and moderators.
I like that.

Well I think what you're arguing is beyond the scope of this thread. But anyway, that it's a marketing ploy is obvious. But she still needs to prove herself as a character and I think she can do that.HolyJellyfish wrote...
I also detect we are arguing two completely different things.
You are arguing about the character herself.
I'm arguing about Bioware's decision to even INCLUDE the character, as she is, as defined physically by Jessica.
You are looking at how she'll add to the game.
I'm looking at her from a purely marketing point of view: /why/ did Bioware feature her? Why can't anyone else voice her, in anyone else's likeness? Someone more reputable?
Those are two very separate arguments.

To be fair though, Miranda isn't a soldier, and neither is Samara.
Miranda is an agent. Samara is a warrior-monk. And extending it further, Jack is a criminal, Kasumi is a spy/infiltrator, Liara is a biotic.
Ash is a soldier. And she got armor.
Diana is a reporter.

The reason the "bashing" has gone from Allers to Chobot is because we have evidence that suggests that Allers IS Chobot, in the sense that she has Chobot's face, and sort-of Chobot's job, and might even have the exact same personality.PMC65 wrote...
But seriously, my problem (I know, it's my problem) is how the bashing become about her than the character? That is cold in my book.

*If she's part of the military.
It seems more likely that the different branches of the military have different rules on what is acceptable to wear. Rather than wearing armor or a thick suit, she's wearing a *fairly modest reporters outfit + skirt of unknown length. These are the sorts of things reporters in America and UK wear.
But more than that
She's part of the SR2 crew. Don't talk about military protocol and this ship in the same sentence. Shepard can do whatever the hell he wants. Kelly (bound by some kind of Cerberus protocol) can sleep with Shepard. Tali runs the engine room. EDI, an AI, helps Joker control the ship (which was against regulations before). It sounds like Vega gets rowdy with Shepard in a disagreement. Ash/Kaiden seek out a relationship with their superior officer (I think they even joke about it).
The point I'm trying to get at is that...well... the Alliance rules are more like a set of...
...guidlines.

I think it'd be cool if they had a history. Like rivals or something. It fits more with Emily since Diana may have taken a different path. But a rivalry in their past? Could be fun.Td1984 wrote...

We are going way off topic, but hear this:
I really don't appreciate it when people put words in my mouth. I never said I am attacking her because she's attractive. That is an unfair assumption by you.
I am a bisexual woman. I LOVE ATTRACTIVE WOMEN.
I freaking adore sexy, boob spilling out, no pants wearing hot lady pirates. I adore in control, genetic perfection second in commands. I think Jack is one of the most beautiful characters in the game. I love women. I love women in all shapes and forms.
It has nothing to do with attacking someone because they are attractive.
Just to be perfectly and absolutely clear. So please, stop making that unfair assumption.
But again. Derailing.
Jessica's attractive, I just wish I got more out of her character.
