Is she that well known and popular enough to act as 'bait' and bring new players to the game simply because she has her own character?

It's the same with movies. They advertise with the stars. As long as the performance is good, I have no problem with that. Personally, I'm in the fortunate position of never having heard of Jessica Chobot before yesterday.Ramus Quaritch wrote...
My issue with Diana is that it's "Jessica Chobot as Diana Allers!" rather than "Here's Diana Allers (played be Jessica Chobot)!" There's a difference there. It's the same reason I didn't like Felicia Day as Talis. Bioware is making it about the actress and her nerd cred rather than the character herself. So when I play the game I see Jessica Chobot, not Diana Allers, which breaks immersion for me.
That doesn't make the visual presentation better....

How much nerd cred can she realistically attract? I had no idea who she was until yesterday

It seems more like some sort of product placement deal between IGN and Mass Effect 3.
ME3 features one of IGN's faces (Therefore promoting IGN), and in return IGN promotes ME3. Probably writes a fantastic review. etc. etc.
That's what it feels like to me. IGN gets some cheap advertisement, ME3 gets some cheap advertisement. c'est la vie.
I still want nothing to do with her. But from what people are guessing, it looks like I may have to keep the fanservice nugget on my ship so I can achieve the perfect ending. I'd feel less dirty if one of the crewmates were a giant, walking, alien species that looks weirdly like a can of Coca Cola.

Wait, what? I doubt this is true. But then again, I wouldn't be surprised.

Wow people are STILL on about that? Seriously? Christ we get it! She was cast as a marketing ploy. How many times are you gonna keep repeating it?
From what I can tell, its why she even exists in the first place. Its sort of important to her character. I'm not the first, won't be the last.

That's nice. Maybe you could enlighten me as to how that justifies repeating it like a freakin broken record.HolyJellyfish wrote...

Still doesn't explain the claims about how she is supposedly so popular that she actually has a lot of nerd or gamer cred when in reality she isn't very well known. Hell Olivia Munn would be a more likely candidate for that.

If I want to respond to people's posts with my opinion, I believe I have that right. Just because you keep to date with each post, because you are OP, doesn't mean everyone else does. I may come across as a broken record to you, maybe others who are following each page, but there are a few people who are just posting for the first time and I'm discussing my opinions with them.
Its all on topic. you don't have to react if you are displeased with these opinions.

I don't know, really. I still think it has to do with product placement. She is a product, being placed in a a game that many people are going to play. Some may ask 'Who is that?' and look into her, be relinked to IGN, watch her programs, etc.
If it was Olivia Munn, more money would be shelled out, and people would already know her (she's pretty well profiled)
This woman.. no one knows. So she needs more advertisement. ME3 is a good place to start. That's my opinion, at least.

Aw man, you could've at least waited till the game came out. Though at this point I would almost take this over "omg cheap advertising lololol111one"scyphozoa wrote...
So what do you think Diana Aller's sweat smells/tastes like? Do you think it will taste better than Tali's honey sweat, or Liara's minty sweat?

I'm not the only one that follows this thread. And I am not just thinking of myself. But I honestly pity potential newbies who come here with open minds and no expectations and have to read 30 pages of this. And with a thread this small "lurk moar" applies, just in case you wanted to loudly exclaim how you keenly figured out Bioware's little ruse but weren't sure if someone beat you to it.HolyJellyfish wrote...

I would honestly think you'd get tired of typing out the same thing over and over again and would just start pointing to your previous posts. I don't mean you as in HolyJellyfish. I mean you as the collective that does this.

I wonder if she'll have Uncanny Valley face like Miranda did. Looks slightly like she does on that picture, but I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Maybe some of it but if she's an LI they can't keep that up for its entirety. As for the picture I believe it may be a rough render. No way to know her final appearance till we get the game though.

You say this, while you insult me ('just in case you wanted to loudly exclaim how you keenly figured out Bioware's little ruse' - Really? You really think that's what I'm after? What is the point of that? I don't understand), and claim how sad it is I should express my opinion - even if it goes what you'd like to see out of this thread.
I'm sorry if you feel that way. If you don't like hearing what I have to say, then a better response is to not respond at all. Instead of attacking the merit of my and/or other people's opinions by insulting us.
Its just a character in a game dude. I'm expressing my issues with her, I'm reading other people's posts who express similar interests, and I share with them that I feel the same way. In a thread that is about her.
Take it or leave it, but I feel like we are derailing the topic of Diana Allers / Jessica Chobolt with this continued discussion - Marketing ploy, LI, character, and all.

IGN has seperated themselves from her being cast in the game. She only freelances for them on occassion. They have a disclaimer up on the VA reveil trailer for the reason you mentioned, they don't want the fans thinking their score for ME3 is because of her inclusion.

/Ah/ Yeah, I didn't read that.
Well, that definitely makes things interesting, and changing the angle BIoware was going after when they cast her. Thanks, Ghost.
