I like Ash and Miri, too (reserving judgement on this Allers character), but the point is that video game publishers always market to the lowest common denominator. They really underestimate the value people put on a good story with good characters, and overblow the sex appeal thing working under the incorrect assumption that all we want is eye candy.
Maybe you're right. Just check the game again, Cheez - did you see any old people? Yeah, few. Most of them look like mid fifty, but not eighty or something.
Did you see any ugly, fat, disfigured or crippled people in ME?
Right. They don't exist. Either they're not allowed to leave their world(s) or medicine is advanced enough to prevent people from getting fat.

Seriously: ME comes with a "perfect" universe, at least visually. So it makes sense most (all???) women come with more or less perfect looks. It's odd, sure, but it's also consistent with the rest of named facts: there are no ugly people, therefore, there are no ugly women, Cheez

Back to the serious part:
Yeah, the tendency is there. Males come in far more (stereo)types, women are usually beautiful and with some huge talents. That's nice to watch at, I won't complain, but also somewhat unrealistic ...
