For those concerned with the abundance of T&A in Diana Aller's (and Ashley's, and Miranda's, and Samara's, and everyone else's) design:
I don't think it's so much the graphics manager needs to get laid as it is their assumption that we (the audience) need to get laid. The general belief is that folks who spend tons of money on videogames don't have a sex life beyond their folders of JPEGs of Yvonne Strahovski.
The ocean of stilettos and catsuits that floods comic books, video games, and all other nerdy market niches is an effort to lure the attention and endorsement of the loneliest and most pathetic of beasts, the geeky 15-to-30-year-old white guy.
Thus, the only way to change this trend is to prove that the "target audience" is neither as inherently immature nor sexually starved as the marketing goons would like to believe.
I'll start the revolution by deleting my pics of Hugh Jackman with his shirt off.
Plus, all things considered, her outfit isn't all that horrifically bad.
See, my mind agrees with you! It has agreed on most everything you've said about this issue, cause you're right.
The sexualisation of women (or people in general) is a serious issue in game design is a serious problem that damages the both image of today's common gamer, and our views on standards of beauty today.
Even though I am able to justify the appearance of both Miranda, Samara, DIana and *spoilerspoiler* for myself storywise, it is a simple, hard truth that a man designed them and put them in these outfits to please consumers.
However, whenever I see Jack's barely covered breasts, Samara's gigantic cleavage or Miranda's shapely buttocks I don't feel that there is anything wrong about it. I don't shake my fist at the blatant fan-service, hell, I don't mind at all.
The thing is, I like pixelated breasts. Not in the same way as a "sexually starved, pathetic beast" would. I just like it.
You could call it a "guilty pleasure", but I don't wanna feel guilt for it. I am just a fan being serviced!
