Kaiden will not be out ranking shepard since Shepard is the commanding officer of the SR 2 . in aka Shepard is both Captian and Commander . there are many things Bioware may screw up but I pray tell military rank is something they do not screw up

simple Shepard doesn't need a 2nd in command and for everyone that says that the VS outranks shepard when shepards there nobody gives the orders but him/her.

It's gotta be the VS. You're on an Alliance ship and they're the ranking officer. Kaidan even outranks Shepard. Prior to this point, Shepard was working for a known terrorist organization. Do you really think the Alliance is going to reinstate him, hand over a state of the art ship that they consider to be their property and NOT put one of their own, loyal soldiers in as second in command?

Technically, SPECTRE out-ranks Alliance Military ranks. Given that Shepard is a spectre for longer, if Ash/Kaiden try and pull Alliance rank on Shepard, I hope we pull the spectre rank on them instead no?

I'd vote for Ash or Garrus tbh, Garrus probably deserves it given he really tries to learn from Shepard imo.

He gets his "tags" back when he leaves Earth, from Anderson and he says: "Welcome back to Alliance, Shepard!"

I didn't say Ashley (Or Garrus) would fail because of that. They were both struck by surprise there, I can forgive them. :P

I guess it would make most sense to have Ashley or Kaidan take second-in-command (Ignoring Kaidan's higher rank as of now) under the circomstances. But personally I'd probably rather go with Garrus. 
I'd be fine with Kaidan taking that part though, then I get some use out of him anyway...

My Shepard IS a Spectre still. If  you didn't know you can get your Spectre rank back from the Council in ME2. And it's even notified in few dialogue lines.

I love Kaidan, I do, but the Normandy is my ship, and he is not going to tell me what to do on my ship. :P

That said, I am ok if he's my 2nd. I think Kaidan or Garrus would be just fine in that role.

While Garrus should be my 2nd in command (he led the fire team in me2), give that the Normandy is an Alliance ship, i'd be dollars to donuts that the VS is the XO.

If I was picking my Mass Effect dream team, then Miranda is far and away my choice for 2nd in command.

If for no other reason than she already did an extraordinary job of serving in that role under very difficult circumstances in ME2.

I would choose Jacob. He is my new LI and I trust him. Or it could be Miranda or Garrus. Two good friends :)
